I've recently been drawn through synchronicity to the greek goddess Nyx, and information online is lacking on her. I only know what I read on wikipedia and other sources seem to be vague. So there's even less luck trying to figure out what the asteroid means on my own. Nyx in my chart is part of a kite between multiple asteroids: Can anyone take a shot in the dark about the meaning of Nyx both in general and in the context of my chart? or does anyone have any information on her mythologically? Primordial Greek goddess of night, daughter of Chaos. Cited by Homer in Ilias/Iliad (I think) as having her son Hypnos (of dreams, sleep) running to her for safety when he'd angered Zeus. I think the quote was more or less "black-winged Nyx, of whom even Zeus stood in awe" somewhere I read. Zeus, the most feared of the gods with his thunderbolts, was highly wary of angering Nyx and Hypnos was right to run to his mommy. POWERFUL goddess then, in that myth. She's listed with different children in various sources, Hemera (day) and Aether (Light) usually listed first. Death/Thanatos and Sleep/Hypnos the brothers, Nemesis and Eris (Strife, Discord) are usually also among the better known kids of hers, with Erebus and other various figures as the father of the first two at least I think, but her as the only "progenitor" of many of her other children. Old Age and Envy I think were among such, but I'll either look up the better links later or tell you to google them yourself. One myth lists her as the triple goddess of Night, Order and Justice, predating Ouranus/Uranus usurping her throne or "power" and his worship or rule becoming more it. I remember something about her ruling from or sitting in some cave and something about drums beaten in front of it from wherever I read that, but it's been ages since I found it so the phrasing may have differed. Nyx however never really had much of a cult following or worship going on, being less personified or more of a primordial "power" thing as the night than the later Olympian gods or goddesses. I always loved her for that thing about even Zeus fearing (to anger) her, the way he was such an ass in a lot of things. I'm a night owl and like her greatly, so all that's off the top of my head info remembered from years back already. The Iliad passages are likely online as well, but I don't remember where they feature, just that it was likely something to do with Hera asking Hypnos to make Zeus fall asleep for whatever it was during the Trojan war. And his then being a tad irritated when awake again, but Hypnos getting away with it thanks to Power-mommy. Astrologically though, I'm not sure where Nyx falls if talking actual influence from the asteroid. Night-time activities perhaps and whatever M.A. Holmes lists, my not having the chance to check what he wrote there again. Mine is 0 Leo and the Antiscion of my Sun/Moon midpoint so... not sure how much that does or doesn't. There is Apophis at 29 Cancer, Nyx-Sphinx at 0 Leo, Juno-Ptah-Eos-Selene and more at 1 Leo. There's a lot going on on the nightside with Apophis being Ra's opponent as well, moving through to Nyx the Night to Selene the moon goddess and her sister Eos, dawn, rising from all that. What Ptah-Juno-Selene-Eos does with the rest I haven't necessarily figured out yet, not having done marital life. I'm fond of a similarly less known Egyptian goddess of cobras and justice as well though (Meretseger), and there is a shrine dedicated to both her and Ptah at the Theban peaks or the Valley of the Kings region, of which she was the guardian. Nyx-Sphinx also exactly trines Vesta at 0 Aries and Nephtys at 0 Sag and opposes Kleopatra. Mixing pantheons or not. http://www.theoi.com/Protogenos/Nyx.html http://www.pantheon.org/articles/n/nyx.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apep IP: Logged |

http://www.zanestein.com/asbolus.htm as well. I see Wiki probably listed whatever I wrote, anyway, but I didn't have a chance to check other sites earlier. I don't know if whatever liking of order or "justice" stem from my liking of Nyx or whatever influence of such, but that's another avenue to look at as well if you like. If you've done synchronicities as of late, have you checked the transits for Nyx or whatever else is related? IP: Logged |

"In Demetra George's words Nyx "symbolises the ground of the dark feminine principle that is the creative source of all that exists". Quoting Demetra George again, she says that "the wisdom of Black Mother Night, spanning Greek, Eastern, and Egyptian traditions, is that the pre-existing nature of all life is a universally connected matrix of living energy, whose first expression is as love". Ignorance of Nyx's energy means "we experience a fear of the void and become involved in outer activity to escape emptiness that terrifies us"" "Nyx is of good help to call forth when you need to reclaim awareness of your original essential nature, for protection, cleansing and fertility." Nyx represents the night, the beginning of creation from nothing. (She had a lot of children - good and bad). i think Nyx feels like our shadow side, our deepest subconscious. i have Nyx conjunct Sirius. IP: Logged |

I have been wondering about Nyx as well, I've got her conjunct and parallel my N Node in my 3rd house, which is Capricorn. So, obviously it is significant somehow, I just haven't been able to figure it out. She's not an asteroid that very many people have looked into, so it is hard to find a lot of information. Incidentally, your Sun is in the same degree as my Nyx, Elizabeth. My N Node is at 27 Cap.
