I'm fairly new to astrology myself, and I'm curious about how much weight to give to asteroids, especially in synastry. I've met a few astrologers who pay no attention to asteroids in their readings, and then I'm also familiar with a few who swear by them. I've been told that Eros, Psyche, Juno and Vesta represent higher octaves of Venus, or her more refined energies. If this is true, could one give more weight to their positions and aspects in a chart than to Venus herself??? And also, as the asteroids are much smaller orbs, might one want to use very, very tight aspects (within just one 1 degree or so) when making calculations?

Hello and welcome. IMO, the main objects (Sun, Moon, planets, angles) will always have the main weight as they are the main elements of the chart. Asteroids holds symbolism of different archetypes, but they are not main elements like these objects. And then their weight would also depend on how they are positioned/aspected in the natal chart. For example, imagine 3 people, A, B and C. A has a well aspected Eros with many positive and strong aspects; B only has hard aspects to his Eros; C doesn't have aspects to Eros at all. Then if for example your Venus aspect their Eros, A would feel strongly and positively about it, B might feel uncomfortable with you and avoid you, and C might be indifferent. This is like saying how you might arouse them erotically, but since only A reacts positively, it then only matters for A.IP: Logged |

Yes, with asteroids use only a very tight orb. If you're just learning astrology, I recommend you stick with the basics. If you're still needing to look up aspects and their meaning between planets in a "cookbook", hold off on the asteroids. Once you can blend and understand the basics in a holistic manner, then you can "season" with asteroids. When making chicken noodle soup, first focus on the chicken, noodles and vegetables. The seasonings come later. Asteroids are like that too. You can still have nourishing soup without seasonings, but too much salt or other strong spices can easily ruin it. IP: Logged | |
