I'm confused about the role of asteroids. For instance, Nessus...it's the abuser's asteroid. So where it sits in your chart, is that where you will abuse, or where you will be abused? Or could it be either/or?

Where Lie sits in your chart, is that where you will lie or where you will find yourself lied to? And Lust...is this the area of life you will lust for, or the area where people will lust after you?

And in synastry...is it possible that if you are Nessus, you could be the one who is abused, or if you Nessus sits in someone else's house, they will abuse you in that area rather than the other way around?

Great question. Unfortunately, nobody actually knows just how they operate, and we need research with many charts for this.

As of late, I've been working with TISIPHONE (466) to understand her operation in both natal and synastry. Does she signal the presence of vengeance murder? Is it the perpetrator? The victim? Both?

Sometimes, bringing in other asteroids to further a theme is the best means of clarifying. For example, if one has PREY involved in a synastry, tightly aspected, then we can assume they might be bringing the victim, as opposed to perpetrator, energy.

So, how about LIE?

Interestingly, I have LIE very strong in a synastry with a man who actually strives to be extremely truthful. Why? He was a propagandist in the military. Psychological operations. Some of the best books advise that these men have developed manipulation and deception as 'second nature' traits, the longer they're in the field.

I'm not purely innocent, either.

As a former profiler, I've had to study, in depth, how to avoid manipulations and deceptions. I'm extremely discerning -- and suspicious -- by nature, as a result of my time in that field.

We come together with the understanding that, he may sometimes lapse into the propagandist -- embellishing, or potentially manipulating in order to bring about his desired outcome. In turn, I may be paranoid, over-analysing every ambiguous word or action, asserting ulterior motivations that aren't there.

The trick is honesty. When LIE is strong, both of you have to remember that honesty is the means out of that hell. Being forthright, genuine, and confronting rather than assuming, which merely leads to misunderstandings.

Consider that LIE is present to alert you to POTENTIAL difficulties present.

Now, what if it's just his LIE and not mine that's active synastrically?

Natal. Check the natal.

If LIE is strong in one natal, but not the other, the energy is present in the natal where it's already active. It's potential, and has to go somewhere. At current, it's bouncing around within the locked system of the natal -- until a point comes along to activate it, creating aspects.

If you've got LIE strong in both, the potential is there on both sides. Who will lie? Who will be lied to? That's always the question, isn't it?

Return to building a theme. Are there NEPTUNE squares? How is MERCURY positioned natally? Any other asteroids like SWINDLE (8690) active? On whose side?

I actually have LIE very strong in my synastry with my Twin. It's a DW involving VENUS. We would constantly lie to each other regarding the depth of our feelings. We both have terrible difficulty with intimacy, and so the reality of such love was overbearing. Overwhelming.

Lies occur for any number of reasons; the most common is the 'white' variety. We don't want to hurt someone's feelings, or we simply can't confront a particular issue. So we avoid it. That's lying by omission, though. No, it's not infidelity or lying with the intent to harm. It's still a lie, though.

All in all, qualification is needed. So the bottom line is:

Check how active the asteroid is in the natal.

How active is it in the synastry? One or both sides?

Look for emerging themes. Are many aspect configurations pointing to the same overall theme?

Anything can be sorted out with maturity, honesty, and perseverance. Astrology is a wonderful means of helping us understand the potential problems and issues so that we might resolve them together.
