Does the asteroid Hades function like Pluto in a chart? Pluto is the Romans' name for Hades, after all. But from the descriptions on different astrological sites, Hades sounds 'grittier' than Pluto, somehow.

I'm trying to understand a tight Hades-Amor-Chiron conjunction in a person's natal chart… Come to think of it, I'm also struggling to understand my own Hades-Eros conjunction.

How tight is tight?

For a TNP, I like to keep it to 1°30 at most. If a Midpoint, you can expand to 3°, but only if heavily configured. HADES is one I've studied in depth, actually, over the past two years. It's not PLUTO, but it can be used with PERSEPHONE. Its function is different, however.

It ranges, but these are the top influences, I'd say:

• criminality
• deep karma and 'ancient history'
• villainy and 'evil'
• ugliness and filth
• old and decaying

In my experience, it can be complex.

A tight CHIRON-HADES might be wounding as a result of Hadean elements, or the capacity to heal with the very same. AMOR shows the principle of unconditional love might be needed to heal these wounds or operate as a powerful instrument of purification.

Another feature of HADES can be its uncompromising approach to evil or ugliness, in which there might be desire to purify the offending issues or elements. Again, it's complex.

My boyfriend has a TISIPHONE-HADES (0°30) conjunct my CHIRON (0°) and PREY (3°). Being square my NODES, it paints a rather ... intense ... portrait of a skipped step, shall we say.

I've tried for years now to comprehend it fully, but the Transneptunians are multidimensional points, expressing in many facets across more than a single timeline. Rather than karma, they show the effects of alternate experiences as viewed through the lens of the present.

HADES, in this sense, is deep karma; that which is old and in need of purification and clearing. Eradication in some senses as well. It can also show where, in the current lifeline, one cannot face certain things, as well as the attitude towards the 'ugly and evil' -- and what characterises them both. As HADES can also be criminality, it may confront us with the criminal element; the unethical, violent, and villainous. It has some relationship to death, of course, but mostly its lesser 'glamourous' aspects: rather than the goth counterculture, undertakers, morticians, and forensic investigators.

It's an ongoing study to explore this one.

I don't have it aspecting any planets in my chart does that mean I don't have heavy past life karma?

Good question, athene. I don't either, but it's heavily configured in my Guardian's chart which is conjunct my skipped step. So I specifically have a heavy karma to resolve with him.

Does it make any Draco links, out of curiosity?

Wow, thank you so much, Aubyanne - that was hugely informative! I see what you mean, about the difference from Pluto. Interesting.

Out of curiosity, how would you interpret those aspects with your boyfriend, exactly? What do you mean by a 'skipped step'? (sorry, I'm a bit slow here )

With tight, I meant that the Hades-Chiron-Amor conjunction is all within 0-1 degrees; it's also directly opposite this person's Sun. (Also square to his Aphrodite and Lust, but the orbs would be about 2 degrees there, so I don't suppose they count so much?)

I find this person very intriguing, almost in spite of myself. Many people who know him say there's something a bit unsettling about him, but nobody is able to say why. He seems like a perfectly nice person, albeit aloof and very serious. It's almost like there's a teflon surface to him; impossible to get hold of anything that might be under the surface. He's also a handsome man, I must say, but in a strangely impersonal and distant way: the way that ancient statues are handsome, lacking a lively spark. He looks a bit 'off' in modern clothes, like he should be clad in armour and have a sword in his hand, so perhaps he really does have some heavy karma about him?!

I never really noticed how Plutonian he is, too - several hard aspects to Pluto in Scorpio, several planets and asteroids in Scorpio, heavy 8th house (including his Sun).

Come to think of it, I wonder if I'm so intrigued by his 'darker potential', so to speak, because of my own Hades-Eros conjunction? And my Uranus is conjunct his Sun, and thus opposite this Hades-Chiron-Amor conjunction. I wonder if I'd notice it less, if this weren't so?

I should add that he's the same man I mentioned in this Karma thread: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum35/HTML/002394.html

I have Hades conjunct moon in Gemini (second house). Dionysus is also there. Any thoughts on that moon? I would appreciate Hades info.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried looking up Hades in synastry with dead people who fascinate you for one reason or another? If Hades has to do with 'deep karma' and history, wouldn't such connections make a lot of sense?

There's a person from history who I'm practically obsessed with (he's the 'main character' of my research topic, and I'm very passionate about my research) and I happen to know his birth time, so I looked up the synastry chart, and was surprised to notice that his Hades exactly conjunct my Uranus, my Hades exactly conjunct his Moon, and our Hades were opposite each other. There were other interesting aspects as well, but these jumped at me.

Wow, these are some interesting things to look at!!
Found some crazy stuff! I don't have a clue what these mean, or what Hades is at all in this form.
I had not looked at Hades with Persephone before although I know I should have somewhere along the way!? Ugh!
Can't believe how much falls on Algol here....

Funny how much that really describes my boyfriend, actually. Perhaps an 'active' HADES can do that -- along with an 8H SUN. (Though his is in CAN.)
