Was doing a bit of a browse through old posts and came across a thread about Ophelia, Elektra and other 'female power/strength/victim' asteroids.

My question/thought is how would these asteroids work in a man's chart?

I plugged in Ophelia and Elektra, and was surprised to find Ophelia exactly conjunct my good friend's sun, Mercury and Saturn in Scorpio, 11H.

Would you treat it differently to the same position in a woman's chart? How does gender colour interpretation (if at all)?

And... Given that Ophelia has several attached meanings - helper, rejection/unlucky in love, weakness, strength - how do you treat Ophelia in general?

I would interpret Ophelia and other female asteroids in a man's chart the same way as I would with a woman. Gender shouldn't matter. Symbolically, I am only concerned about the meaning that the asteroid has, not someone's physical appearance. Men can experience the same things as a female in most cases so I don't think it's fair to interpret these asteroids any differently just because someone is a male.

I totally agree Lerena, and indeed tend to interpret asteroids across the board in a fairly uniform way. I was only thinking as Ophelia has such an attached meaning of female despair if that would have an impact in a male chart, the same way that eg mars and the sun in a woman's chart can indicate desired attributes in a male-love match; but in a man's chart is to do with self-identity and masculinity.

So in this case, I had a dig around and I think I have a theory. Saturn conjunct Sun in a chart, to me, is a strong father-son influence thing. Saturn being a point of weakness, vulnerability and/or obsession, conjunct with sun shows a heaviness on the native's image of the self. In this case, the father has had a restricting impact on the son. Having mercury in there as well, has made communications and thought-development away from those experiences difficult.

Place all that in scorpio, and you have hidden secrets, and an inclination to keep the doors closed.

Throwing Ophelia into that pot, to me reflects the dominance and control of the father (think Ophelia's obedience to Polonius despite it not being the best for her). The positive side though is that there is a potential to develop away from that early experience, especially post-saturn return. If he can confront some of those issues surrounding his father (I do not know what they are, only that there are some), it may be he can use that experience to either help others, or use the positive energy of Ophelia to heal his own self esteem.

This all happening in the 11th house suggests it may be achieved in an unconventional way, or in the context of a group (he is a member of a major organisation which would certainly contribute to self-esteem and achievement through hard work).

What do you think? Does this hold as a plausible analysis of Ophelia conjunct sun-saturn-mercury perhaps?
