Most would say that Juno is the asteroid of marriage, but recently I've also come across the interpretation that it is about social activism.

I have Juno conjunct Midheaven (in Aquarius, and sextile Uranus)

I am looking to move into social work as a career

Well Juno is devotion and you have it on the MC in Aquarius so yes in your case it can manifest as a career involving activism or that focuses around social issues.

Yes I am definitely moving in that direction. I've read that Juno is about deep equality and fairness, and its commonly manifests its self through social activism when its prominent.

I just find it interesting that there is the common understanding of marriage vs fighting for fairness.

Well if you look at the discovery chart of JUNO the ruler of the DC is Jupiter and JUNO is the wife of JUPITER. Juno also has Venus conjunct Southnode exact and Moon conjunct IC exact also conjuncting the Southnode all in Leo given it a focus around love and romance but also the home and our ancestry perhaps even our heritage/country.

However the Northnode is in Aquarius in the 9th so maybe there is something to what you are saying that the mission of Juno is activism involving changing laws that impact all of us (9th house).

That stellium in Leo involving venus, moon, the IC and the Southnode though feels like pure unconditional love that has build up over many lifetimes. Is possible both themes are accurate. I could see how Juno is the marriage asteroid that manifests as unconditional love and a deep devotion to another who you can build a home life with.
