I've been studying the asteroid Vesta in my chart and I'm having a hard time figuring out the house placement. My Vesta is in Virgo, 6.38' The cusp of the 8th house starts at 7.10' Virgo. So we're talking about an orb of 32 minutes, right? Astrotheme shows Vesta in the 8th house while Astrodienst puts it in the 7th. Is there a definitive answer as to which is the correct house for me or I'll have to just decide for myself? Thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

Hi Scorpiogirl You have VESTA at end of 7th House, cusping the 8th House. VESTA has a strong rulership association with Virgo, (and also with Libra.. Libra being the natural ruler of the 7th House). {ref Demetra George, Asteroid Goddesses (2003), pp 6-7} I'd say to use BOTH since it is sooo close, and decide which is stronger for you. Of course, IF you are still a younger person, you may not have had enough time to fully evaluate her in terms of people-relationships. You could probably venture a guess regarding her 8th house connection with occult/esoterica, mysticism interests. (Astrology might count-in with that?) Page 140,141. quote-- Vesta H7.. points to a dedication to working on one's relationships. Yet, because VESTA strives for self-sufficiency and independence, conflict may arise when 7th house compromise and cooperative efforts are required. Often this person will become overly focused upon or obsessed with heir primary relationship.
Vesta 8th.. individuals have a dedication to the psychic/occult fields, or to depth-interactions with others. It may also be difficult for them to find someone to meet their sexual intensity.. Complications with others over shared resources... put pressure on one to learn the skill of letting go of personal desire and on learning how to share possessions. end/quote Personally, I'd say count it as 8th... while considering 7th. Also check to see her Retrograde schedule as far as Progressions would be concerned. If she goes Retrograde FROM that position pretty soon after you were born, or, by chart-wheel Progression now, where is she landing? Hope that helps you decide.

Mirage29 hi and thanks for your answer! The reference sounds very interesting, I'll have to look it up - Vesta, Ceres, Juno and Pallas fascinate me. I'm in my 20s... I can see myself in both descriptions to be honest. I can say that I identify with Vesta in the 7th house when it comes to the problems I've faced with friends. As for lovers, I haven't had a long-term relationship yet which, come to think of it, could be because of the same Vesta in the 7th house problems that I've had in my friendships. A focus on relationships isn't something I identify with though. It's true that I'm into occult matters and prefer to have a real conversation with someone, not just small talk. Never had a problem with shared resources and having to learn how to share possessions. I just checked my Progressed Vesta. It's not retrograde and still in Virgo, but now in the 8th house. I guess that strenghthens the 8th house position. I'll do as you suggested - count it as 8th but also consider the 7th since it has an obvious influence on me. I just detest ambivalence but better this than being born with your Sun in the 0.00 degree of a sign and not knowing for sure where it belongs, right? Again, thank you very much for your help! Hi again, Scorpiogirl. Thanks for your interesting answer and feedback. You made me smile with your comment about someone born with 0.00 Sun, and not liking ambivalence. Check out the way that Sabian symbols run. Looking up the Sabian for your VESTA could possibly help clarify her meaning, too. - http://www.mindfire.ca/An%20Astrological%20Mandala/An%20Astrological%20Mandal a%20-%20Contents.htm {round UP to next number-- whole degree} e.g. Cancer 18.45 = Sabian Cancer 19. Meant to leave you the url to the Asteroid Goddesses book, and Demetra George's website. - http://www.amazon.com/Asteroid-Goddesses-Mythology-Psychology-Re-Emerging/dp/0892540826 - http://www.demetra-george.com/resources/books I hope you enjoy the book, and are enriched by your studies. Blessings!

Officially, your Vesta is placed in 7th house and Astrotheme is most likely off with the calculation of your Ascendant, which is why Astrotheme places Vesta in 8th house instead. Vesta is close enough to the end of 7th house for even a slight calculation error to change its house. When a planet is on the cusp like that, however, I often think it's likely the person identifies with both house placements. Even with my Moon in Gemini a few degrees from where my 8th house cusp begins, I still partially relate to some descriptions of Moon in 7th house. IP: Logged |

Lerena. Wow.. Thanks for pointing out the discrepancies regarding calculation of Ascendants with that other website. (Didn't know that.)Here's another free website for a copy of your chart and asteroids, Scorpiogirl. Many of the charts posted here at LL are from the 'astro com' (Astrodienst) website.
