Spider symbolism has been particularly strong for me over the last few weeks of the Halloween rollout – far more than the usual motifs of ghosts, witches and everything else that on any other calendar year have been far more dispersed in a noticeably even manner across my individual consciousness. ...Up until now.

Let’s just say, spiders and webs in all of their glory have been really speaking to me this year.

As I write this, transit Arachne (asteroid #407) is exactly conjunct my ascendant at 0 degrees. (Astrology, you never cease to amaze me.)

My '30,000 feet above sea level' take on the myth:

Arachne effectively “weaves" her own fate when she reveals the treachery of the gods through her tapestry in the contest with Athena. It was clear to all that Arachne, a mortal of humble beginnings, possessed weaving skills that surpassed those of Athena. Athena (of Olympian divinity) weaves her own fate through her tapestry as well, which depicted gods transforming mortals into other things. Both Arachne and Athena follow suit to their own prophecies, which were archetypal representations of their own destinies, through their own perspectives – which intertwined at the right time (divine time) for them to manifest each other. In the end, Athena turned Arachne into the first spider – and through this transformation, Arachne became an immortalized symbol of her own craft.
