The New Age is just another religion...and just as distorted...actually more so, since we don't have a singular text to refer to. Question everything! Even the above that SC posted. But It's a good start. Great wrestling analogy, iQ!

SunChild, thank you. That did my heart and mind good. Especially since a major theme of what you've written is balance. (Don't people realize that wihout Balance we will all fall down?)

I'd like to respond to a few (?) of the things you wrote:

"...which said that when it comes to predators, abusers, sociopaths, etc. we need to respect who they are, and that 'we shouldn’t interfere because that’s just them expressing their free will.'"
I sometimes find it hard to hold down my gorge when I run into that line of thinking. (I'll bet few, if any, of the people who really espouse this belief are parents.) I usually want to give them a good object lesson at that point, but I'd have to become the abuser to do it, so I can't.

"avoiding false two choice dichotomies"
I hope the ostrich is listening!

"Being the prey is just as bad as being the predator. We should be aiming for balance."
Exactly, which is why I cannot and will not ignore some forms of predation.

"X!"
I felt like we on Family Feud there for a moment! I hope you don't mind me borrowing this one from you every now and again. I'll add my own inimitable style, of course:

Survey Says...!
[X]

"Teflon fumes will kill pet birds in their cages if they’re too close to the kitchen/stove. And we’re supposed to eat food cooked in that??"
I knew about all the others (aspartame, MSG, aluminum, thimerosal, CFL radiation, etc.) but hadn't heard about the teflon. I did know that I never liked cheap teflon cookware, I've seen most of the teflon flake off into the food on the first use. (Thank god for Dollar General, where you can get one for only $3! Right? An entire large stew-pot's worth of teflon in the food, and I couldn't talk my girlfriend-at-the-time's son out of eating it. :P~~~ (That relationship lasted about a month, BTW.)

"lethargy, sleep disturbance and nightmares"
O.M.F.G! Here's a good example of serendipitous synchronicity! I was going to post today asking if anyone had a possible explanation for my recent insomnia and lethargy. For the last six dys, I've been absolutely unable to sleep for more than 3 hours at night. I tried napping, but would wake up every time after only 1 hour. Way more lethargic than listless than even the sleep deprivation could explain -- I usually have lots of energy, even on little sleep. Envionmental factors never occurred to me; I was looking for the root cause in my diet (all I could think of). But now that you've mentioned this, check out the timing: 10 days ago, moved into new house. 7 days ago, moved from sleeping on couch into upstairs bedroom. That's when it started! Now that I think back, I only slept decently that first night. No coincidence, I suppose, that most of the house's wiring comes in right on the other side of the wall from my bed! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will move my bed (actually thinking about vacating the room completely) and let you know if my condition improves.

"Cans of (usually diet, aspartame riddled…) soda cracking open from various cubicles and offices, people in the breakroom – microwaving – their leftovers or frozen insta-meals or carrying bags of McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Arby’s, etc. into their offices (“lunch on the run,” an epidemic side effect of the modern work lifestyle), boxes of Krispy Kremes laying out for people to grab and munch on, standing outside on break to smoke mainstream cigarettes which usually contain up to 100 additive chemicals, many times while standing under a chemtrail covered sky, feeding coins into the vending machines for bags of junk snacks made with unpronounceable ingredients, making personal calls on cell phones pressed up to their brains, going home after work to party and drink mass amounts of alcohol. Etc. Etc."
- Yes! This is a true picture of our world, behind the Hollywood hype. I get so frustrated sometimes, feeling that no one around me can see it.

"“Indigo”/“Crystal” children."
- Yeeeaaahhh... when all that crap started, I think it took about 60 seconds of reading about it (literally!) to decide it was New Age drivel. Thank you, intuition!

"The scientifically minded never consider anything woo-woo..."
- Ugh. The only time I've heard the expression "woo-woo" was out of the mouths of a certain demographic that I (and, hopefully/presumably, you) would never pal around with or emulate. I asked one of them what it meant, once, but I don't remember the answer. I think the poor schmuck had a hard time comin up with a definition...

"The intellect is bad"
- Yep. Read somewhere about the "anti-intellectual ethic" in America. Horrid perversion of values!

"Just ask any bitter male whose action oriented, natural provider instinct energy has been played one too many times by manipulative, cunning females."
- Again: thank you, thank you, thank you! Sooo cathartic to hear this from a woman.

"However there’s a bit of a “throw the baby out with the bathwater” association going on with male energy, where only the negative aspects are recognized so the whole thing is tossed out in one swoop."
- Yes, and have you noticed that almost all of the action heroes in the media in the last 5-10 years have been female? We males aren't getting role models anymore. (Yes, I feel the disenfranchisement.) I don't hear about Jerry Springer or Montel Williams anymore, it's just Oprah, Ellen, and Judge Judy. (Not that any of those five people, or their shows, are anything but trash -- but it helps illustrate the pendulum over-swing from all yang to all yin.)

(Re: total meditational shut-off "This seems to me to be risky territory, allowing other “stuff” to get in and gain access while you’re suppressed and vulnerable in such ways."
- How interesting! My father said something along those lines once, about how he didn't like the meditational practice of "concentrating on nothing", so he alway had a focal point of some kind to concentrate on, something positive. He said if you [emptied yourself too much] that [negative energies] could get in. (I don't remember his exact words, hence the [paraphrasing].) I've got another little paranormal story about my father (who, other than these two instances, never had anything to say about nor seemed interested at all in the "occult") that I'd love to relate to you, but it would give certain people here too much ammo... (how it rankles that I must censor myself so! And all due to one overprivileged fartknocker.)

"If you’re going to believe that there is some incarnational plan going on, then I think at best, the plan is relatively loose for most people, and most things are not set in stone."
- 3-D analogy: you may plan a road trip from here to there quite precisely, but who knows when you'll decide to stop along the way... to use the restroom... smell the flowers... or fix an unexpected flat tire.

(Re: incarnational life plans) "“Uh, yeah, whatever, that’s easy for you to say. Try telling that to a poor African villager, or those living in some war torn nation.”"
- Just because "god" put a grand machine like the universe into motion, that doesn't mean we humans can't throw a monkeywrench into the works. And just because we throw a monkeywrench into the works and jam up or break something, doesn't mean other parts of the machine aren't going to work. I'm reminded of jwhop saying "too bad we humans subverted the Plan." You're spot on there, J, and I don't mind giving credit where it's due. Even to you. :P~~~

"It’s almost as if everything that’s been going on in the last 500 years since the Renaissance has been winding up to some big peak climactic moment, with reality moving faster and faster every year, and change occurring exponentially."
- Have you seen Waking Life? (I'll bet you have.) If so, do you remember the "telescoping nature of the evolutionary paradigm"? That one rang my inner bell. And joyously so, for it represents hope for some kind of help along the way. (If you didn't see the film, here's the relevant bit.)

"I don’t endorse the Project Camelot material, but did find the “Wingmaker” information on so-called ascension to be interesting."
- Gee, you mean you can extract useful and positive truth from part of something without having to swallow the whole ideology??? Reminds me of something Kurt Vonnegut wrote:

quote:
Eugene Debs, who... ran 5 times as the Socialist Party candidate for president... had this to say while campaigning:
As long as there is a lower class, I am in it.
As long as there is a criminal element, I’m of it.
As long as there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

He then added this, sarcastically:
quote:
Doesn’t anything socialistic make you want to throw up?

Let me repeat, for the one who is apt to forget after reading that quote: "Gee, SunChild, you mean you can extract useful and positive truth from part of something without having to swallow the whole ideology???"
- I believe Linda would have agreed: "it shouldn't matter about whom [or, in this case, by whom] the truth is written as long as what is written is truth / so never mind who!"
and
"Partial truth -- the seeds of wisdom -- can be found in many places."

I've never been able to successfully explain this concept to a sheep, fish, or ostrich.

"At the risk of sounding like a “whining pansy socialist liberal commie pinko”..."
- Good thing you didn't post this in the wrong forum, because:
"she’s able to achieve that place in reality a little easier precisely because she was born into a certain economic/racial demograph, and not another."
would definitely have gotten you labelled a "whining pansy socialist liberal commie pinko" by the big Label Maker himself. And you're far too nice a person for me to sit by idly and watch that happen to. (Oh noes! Am I talking about resisting the negative?? LOL)

"Of course there’s the more positive way of looking at it all, by saying that these commercialized New Agers’ souls chose to incarnate into the body of the middle to upper class (usually Caucasian) person in a modern Western nation precisely because it would give them the tools to be able to achieve spreading their positive message of love and light for this new age that we’re all supposedly ascending into."
This is a logical fallacy called the question", or, more commonly, "circular reasoning".

“Heeeeey, why is the emperor naked…..?!!”

"Be a guru, no degree required. (And you don’t even necessarily have to know what you’re talking about!)"
- *Sigh* I shouldn't have to stop and take the time, in this extremely lengthy post, to comment on this. But if I don't someone else probably will. For the record, I chose my nickname because I like to share what I've learned with others (the "guru" part), and because my methods tend to be unusual and without concern for the opinions of others concerning those methods (the "rogue" part). It is not my way of saying that I possess any special knowledge nor that people should listen to/follow me. It was chosen half in-jest; I like the word "rogue" and what it can stand for: Nikola Tesla was considered a rogue; Ghandi was considered a rogue; the list goes on. Don't forget, I've got Uranus sitting on my Ascendant!

"crystal bowl tuning sessions"
- Never heard of a crystal bowl, but I once knew someone who had a Tibetan singing bowl. We used it as part of the only real ritual magic ceremony I've ever participated in, or seen. (Seen lots of New Agers going through the motions, though.)

"I have never wanted to join a group that has a leader, or which has a small core group of leaders. ... Instead, I enjoy the idea of a group of people getting together and brainstorming. Sharing with the group what they know and have experienced, everybody adding their two cents and input to the pile so that greater realizations can come about."
- Well, that makes you and Krishnamurti of a similar modus operandi. Krishnamurti: did you know that upon being placed at the head of the "spiritual" order that had chosen him as their savior and rescued him from poverty and abuse as a child, he immediately disbanded it, believing it to be of no use? He spent the rest of his life having little get-togethers, "talks", with small groups of people (unfortunately, most of them were probably his time's equivalent of the New Ager demographic you speak of). A rare one, indeed, who is so dedicated to truth that he can resist that kind of temptation to power, even when that resistance means "biting the hand that feeds" him!

"My own personal proof, from etherically detaching from my body, to past life glimpses, glimpsing death, and so on."
- YFIS told me once about the experience that provided her with incontrovertible proof. And I was just a teensy bit envious; someone with as logically-toned a mind as mine has a VERY difficult time accepting anything on pure faith. I need this kind of experience. I think I had a brief out-of-body experience experience years ago, but its brevity (and the fact that I was laying around relaxing when it happened) casts it in too much doubt. Anyhoo, if you know how I can put myself (or be put) through that kind of experience, despite a brain that is surely a perpetual-motion-researcher's wet dream, please tell me.

*Phew!* Okay, now to go make some nice, short replies to the other strings that interest me.

Oh, one more thing: please tell me more about your books.

Thanks for putting in the time and energy, SC. Next time someone asks me "what can men do against such reckless hate?!", I'll just point to this string as an example.

Thanks for your comments IQ, Juni, Quinne, Randall, RG.

Yes, I agree, question everything.

That is why I like reading my Zen books and Buddhist books, my fave is Trungpa, it's all about questioning. You kind of melt into the unknowing, and feel the perfect bliss, away from the know-it-all movement. I take a break from all the mysteries for a while and zen out..... But sometimes I like to immerse myself into the riddles. Bit of both.

Lol @ the teflon killing birds kept near the stove. You know fluoride increases uptake of aluminum in the brain.. which is known to cause dementia?

Off topic, but did you relocate to Australia? Because I had a dream on moving there and waiting for my soul family to show up. Seemed odd, and the tarot card readings seemed to support me being better there..

A lot of new age stuff is meaningless disinformation fluff. I hate to say that because there is some good information there. The stuff behind the veil is real. I see energy distortions and auras daily. When things are more extreme I see totems and angels and frequently huge flashes of light that only I see. When I start doing energy visualizations I can silence an entire cafe or crowded room. It's sad people aren't more aware of their true being and there's so much garbage out there..

You were very wise on your emotional approach part. They've proven that aversion to emotion or pain only makes it worse and the subconcious traumas cause psychosomatic ailments causing disease and chronic pain caused by a combination of disease and/or muscle tension. My book The Psychobiology of Gene Expression goes into a lot of the emotional healing stuff but it's a very intense read.

Yeah.. I feel like there's a huge nefarious element to the indigo thing (as well as the new age movement obviously).. I was watching one video on it, and almost all of the children were blonde haired blue eyed, and the brunette was deferring to the blonde with her as being more spiritual.

If you like buddhist books, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche was my favorite. His books are amazing, and of course Pema Chodron who was a student of trungpa. (Look at the reviews!) http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Living-Unlocking-Science-Happiness/dp/0307347311/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303871952&sr=1-1

SC!

as to the "ascension symptoms" i tend to think they describe menopausal(male and female) and general ageing symptoms that the "new" Agers are experiencing...and explaining away!

the owner of the place i work in (not for) is a new age teacher. her own specialty is Keylontic Science (aarghh) and her whole school speaks a language that is recognizably pretentious and exclusive despite being formed of "english" words... i was recently treated to a barrage of abusive criticsm to which the only permissible response, apparently, was "thank you!"

what is new age about this? it strikes me as just like any other abusive employment situation and the equivalence with Stepford Wives is perfect.

back in the day the desire for "free love" was quickly "transmuted" into "if you won't sleep with any old body you are uptight"...
some things never change.

HOWEVER SOMETHING definitely feels like it is coming to a head. civilization? pollution? materialism? this "recession" has awakened so many people i had begun to think would never get over the desire for the next toy/acquisition.

Nope, will try again.
My friend contacted Bruce Cathie, the expert on Ley Lines [and a UFO COntactee]. Hoping he has some juicy information which I can post here. Another ex-Knowflake has contacted 'catastrophist' author Patrick Geryl and has enhanced her own researched on 2012. I will request her to contribute her findings here again if she has time.

Really? This statement kind of confused me.

This year alone:
Season of the Witch - Nicolas Cage
The Green Hornet - Seth Rogen, Jay Chou
The Mechanic - Jason Statham
The Eagle - Channing Tatum
I Am Number Four - Alex Pettyfer
Unknown - Liam Neeson
Drive Angry - Nicolas Cage
Battle Los Angeles - Aaron Eckhart
Limitless - Bradley Cooper
Suckerpunch - mily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung

The only top action film in 2011 that has women is "Suckerpunch" which, if you've seen the trailor... okay I don't even want to comment on it.

Of course, if you're talking about superhero movies in regards to male and female leads obviously, men outnumber women 10 to 1.

And if you look at the top 50 grossing films from 2000-2010, I think every single one of them except "Mamma Mia" and "The Chronicles of Narnia" are headlined by men.

But maybe you had something else in mind? I'd actually love to hear more. I don't know why that caught my attention.

The original posts, btw, are interesting! I have to read through them completely. I share a lot of opinions with the author and a lot of what is brought up is why I distanced myself form the New Age stuff a long long time ago.

Hey everybody....

I'm the author of the article that Sun Child posted here in this thread. Saw hits coming from here in my weblogs, figured I'd register so I could come over and say I'm glad that everybody so far seems to like what I wrote. I've enjoyed reading people's comments on what they think. It's always interesting to hear what parts stand out for people, and why.

Usually I prefer if my articles aren't copied and pasted in full like this only because I've had this tendency to constantly update and revise things, but I think this is it as far as revisions to "New Age Love and Light Fallacies" goes.

Thanks for taking the time to read it, and I appreciate Sun Child bringing attention to it...

Warm Welcome Carissa.

I emailed you a few months back and requested you to post a few comments here, do not know whether you received that email.

Not just this article, there are several articles in your site which resonate with many members here. The objective investigation into Higher Self Communication is excellent, as is the analysis of Parallel Timelines.

I had also come across a .pdf file on "Mind Control" too where you and Tom Conti had been credited with the research.

Great research on the whole.

Please feel free to create links to all your updated articles, we can reserve a thread for your links and comments.

This. The ascension is like the rapture in Christianity, and stuff like not resisting and suppressing negativity is mind control. However, the indigo children thing is probably one of the pieces of truth in it (like the metaphysical subjects associated with it like astrology, numerology, tarot, etc.), as I do have the characteristics of one, as well as an empath, and it's perfectly reasonable to assume that stuff like ADD and Autism are to control us. New Age is a lot like Christianity in that they're both Illuminati controlled (the rapture and ascension are there to pacify people and keep them from being proactive, while the elites plot their world government agenda), with some truth (Jesus' message in Christianity, the esoteric and metaphysical subjects and indigos in New Age) and some brainwashing (rapture and the OT and Paul's books which were contradictory to Jesus' message in Christianity, ascension and the doctrine of being passive and suppressive in New Age).
