ORIGINS

The history of the Order is steeped in legend, and it's origins hidden in the mists of the past. The Order has existed since the very beginning of civilization and will continue to exist until the end of time. It has been phrophesied that, when the last Member of the Order living upon the earth dies, then the end of the world will come.

The traditions of the Order teach that the Old Ones, the Immortals, the First-Created, were among the original dwellers in the heavenly realms and the servants of the All-Powerful. According to the old lore, some of them elected to descend to the earth for the purpose of educating and civilizing human creatures.
These beings, called the 'Sons of God' (actually both male and female beings; 'little gods' or the progeny of God) mated with men and women and produced a third race, the People of the Magical Blood, from whom are descended all the world's gifted psychics, shamans, witches, sorcerers, magicians, and great religious teachers. It is from the original Children of the Gods, the exiled Seed of Divinity, that all true magical knowledge and power is derived.
The fabulous account of the Order's existence in the world began when the first Adepts of the original brotherhood came from lands which were old when Egypt was young, and gathered together in an ancient temple on the shores of an island in the Mediterranean. These Adepts had inherited the remnants of the age-old wisdom of the Elders, borne away by them from the lost lands of Atlantis and Lemuria prior to the Great Cataclysms that would bring to an end earth's Golden Age. They were the last surviving priests and priestesses, the royal heirs of the old order and the secret angelic lore of Immortals, a priceless inheritance from the Ancients.
Thus, in the year 4714 B.C., the orginal Order began as a circle of companions who formed themselves into a great Order, a league of occult power, under the leadership of the great Warrior-Queen, Athena-Minerva, the first Grand Mistress of the Order.
This woman, who would later ascend to Paradise and reign as a goddess, had brought together the remnant of the great Priesthood of the Dragon, men and women who had survived the destruction of the old lands and who now forged a new brotherhood of power.
Their goals were the preservation and eventual restoration of the old order and its primeval wisdom, the destruction of the evil Black Dragon Cult (whose misuse of the Dragon-Power had engendered the great destruction), and the creation of a new Golden Age upon the Earth which would be a great flowering of civilization, humanity, the arts, and Universal Peace. The Great Battle has been waged down to this very day.
From the first new civilization created by this tiny band in the Mediterranean, the journeyed east and west, north and south, under a variety of names adapted to the lands in which they travelled, carrying the torch of knowledge, wisdom and power ever farther.
The Order's Adepts are the direct descendants of that original band led by Athena-Minerva, the legendary founder and Guardian Protectress of the Ordo Draconis. The Order's Priests and Priestesses continue an unbroken line of succession from the Lemurian priesthood. Through them, we trace our ancestry to the original children of the Immortals, and the divine marriage between heaven and earth.

Athena is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, warfare, strength, strategy, female arts, crafts, justice and skill. Minerva, Athena's Roman incarnation, embodies similar attributes. Athena is also a shrewd companion of heroes and the goddess of heroic endeavour. She is the virgin patron of Athens. The Athenians built the Parthenon on the Acropolis of her namesake city, Athens, in her honour (Athena Parthenos)

As we have seen, the Order of the Dragon,
whether Visible or Invisible, Western or
Oriental, has existed from the most remote
times. During its existence it has manifested its activity secretly and openly
in the world under different names and in
various forms. This distinguished and revered Order was known from ancient times
through the recent past under many names;
for instance, the Hidden Masters, the
Mahatmas, the Great White Brotherhood, etc.
and provided the impetus for numerous
groups such as the Knight Templars and the
Rosicrucians.

Belonging to this secret order are a group of infinitely wise and spiritually elightened persons, all working under the guidance of the Divine Light, and each illuminated interiorly by this same indwelling Light. From age to age and unknown to the masses, this great and venerable order of sages has been working constantly and invisibly for the spiritual evolution and civilization of the world, teaching and showing the Way to those who would dare seek it.
They move amongst us, but the world knows them only by the names which they have taken as masks for their true identities. It glimpses only small portions of the dazzling jewels of wisdom which they possess, stones of light which would blind those whose eyes are unaccustomed to their brilliance.
Theirs is the revelation of true wisdom, and authentic religion. They are the possessors of the Holy Chalice of knowledge and understanding, and the Sceptor of authority and power. They are the servants of the Giver of Lights, and they distribute the good gifts of Light to all. It is the ways of man which dim those pure lights and corrupts them for evil purposes.

The Western Esoteric Tradition is expressed nearly as much in the later Christian Mysteries as it is in the older Pagan religions. Indeed, much of the original Christian Faith was built upon and expanded the teachings of Paganism. Even as late as the Middle Ages, the Pagan philosophies were being kept alive by medieval guilds of occult masters working under the guise of monastic brotherhoods and sisterhoods. These facts have somehow been lost on the modern occult revival.
Sadly, most of the teachings of Mystical Christianity have been lost to the modern churches. However, stripped of Church canons and legalistic doctrines, true Christianity can be seen in a sense as an extension of Pagan religion, which only became its rival through the greed and corruption of men.
It was St. Augustine who wrote, "The very thing that we now call the Christian religion existed among the ancients and has not been lacking from the beginning of the human race until the comming of Christ in the flesh, from which time the true religion, which existed already, began to be called Christian."

Modern Christianity in most cases, however, can no longer be called even genuine Christianity, let alone the true religion. The original Gospel of love taught by Jesus Christ has been replaced by a false Gospel of money, power and oppression, created by corrupt churchmen.
True Christianity, the mystery religion taught by Jesus Christ and the Apostles, has always been the province of the few, the Catacomb (Hidden) Church. As the legendary Keepers of the Holy Grail, the Order possesses the authentic teachings of Jesus Christ which expose all the lies, hypocrisy, and contradictory propaganda of mass-movement 'Churchianity.'
The modern churches evolved from the creation of a State Christianity by the rulers of the Roman Empire, as an instrument of control and suppression of the common people by the rich and powerful. The leaders of the State Church were just a new breed of Pharisees, whom Jesus would have condemned. They even changed Sacred Scripture to conform to their interests; whole books being suppressed, passages altered, God falling silent, prophets no more.
The true Christianity of the Spirit was soon overwhelmed and driven underground by religious legalism. Oraganized religion based on worldly power waged war against the true religion in which God is known through experience rather than taught from a book and accepted on blind faith.
Great Rome, which flourished under paganism and freedom of religion, herself fell, not because of her decadence, but because she angered the gods by suppressing true religion and demanding submission to the State Church. The religious freedom and tolerance which had existed in the pagan world was no more.
The Catacomb Church continued its underground existence, only now it was composed of all faiths, not just the true followers of Christ.

Underground Survival

Through the centuries, proponents of the Universal Old Religion continued to be driven underground by the forces of organized religion. Often religion became a matter of national pride rather than a quest for enlightenment. Those who dared to seek the Truth, express their beliefs or question the authority of the Church were brutally persecuted. The forces of organized religion and the State Church, both Catholic and Protestant, launched a campaign of torture and the murder of millions to silence the voices of reason and extinguish the Light of the Old Religion.
Thus, the Old Religion is basically a modern, underground survival of prehistoric religion, when religion was an experience of spiritual communion shared by man and woman with the All-Powerful. This was before evil men learned to use religion as an instrument for political power and social control, or as a commercial enterprise to gain wealth.
During the Middle Ages, the Knights Templar became a vehicle for the preservation and propagation of the orginal arcane wisdom, at first cloaked under the Christian symbolism but later revealing much more. Both the Templars in the West and the followers of the Old Man of the Mountains in the East were greatly influenced and to a certain extent controlled by the Masters of the Order.

At the time of its suppression, the Templars were but an outer vehicle for the Order, whose Members comprised its inner circle and functioned as agents for the Masters. These Initiates merely changed their masks and survived by going underground and forging fresh paths. They continued to preserve and teach the Secret Doctrine through new channels. Even today, Initiates may be found anywhere, from the lone occultist studying in a secluded room to Nestorian priests in the Ancient Christian Churches of the East.

Throughout this time the Order has continued to teach its doctrines and practices to such as could be found worthy to partake of its hidden wisdom. Because of religious persecution, this work was carried on underground and the Order operated under whatever names or guises that were suitable to the times and places.
Although this closely guarded teaching was made available only to the few, they in turn influenced the massses. Many rumors were whispered about the Secret Order of Adepts who were silently guiding humanity's destiny. Even today the Order includes among its secret membership many of the leading lights of the modern spiritual revival.
Having come into the fullness of the time, the Invisble Sanctuary of Adepts elected to make its teachings more accessible to the sincere seeker, through its direct representative, the Ordo Draconis.

In the Temple of the Dragon

In October, 1992, on the Great Feast of Hallowmas Eve, Lord Vashon and twelve Companions visited the ruined Temple of the Dragon where Grand Master Prince Frank and Prince Frank's own Teacher, the Royal Grand Master Dr. Cushman, had celebrated the Rites many years before.
As Lord Vashon stood in the ruined Temple, now haunted by the spirits of another age, he caught a fleeting vision of Dr. Cushman and other great Adepts, bending over a long table illuminated by candlelight. They appeared to be studying the secrets of the occult, hidden away in dusty old books, heavy with the musty scent of age, their pages brittle and yellowing.
An eerie feeling of other presences looming in the darkness beyond chilled the Companions as they gathered before the flickering candles on the old altar that reflected their shadows upon the walls, once covered with beautiful frescoes but now stripped bare.

"As we watched the sun set on the darkened ruins, casting deep shadows all around us, I reflected upon the Dragon's Treasure and the starry wisdom of the Magi, which once reigned in resplendent glory but was now preserved by a faithful remnant who fought to keep the Sacred Fire burning and the True Wisdom alive amidst persecution by a degenerated and idolatrous religion of the letter. We washed our hands and faces in lustrations of the sanctified waters of Zam-Zam and rededicated ourselves to the Quest."

Lord Vashon retrieved the Altar Stone and dome of the High Altar, in which were concentrated great stores of dormant Dragon energy. He also recovered the holy Tabernacle which had once contained the Sacred Chalice of the Holy Grail, and the Royal Blood. These sacred artifacts were removed to one of the Order's private Sanctuaries where they would be restored and a new Altar and Tabernacle built to hold the Sacred Chalice, the Holy Relics, the Royal Scepter, and the Holy Crown. Here they would provide a link with the past and their powers would be awakened to serve a new generation.
