My mother and aunt were members of Job's Daughters and my grandfather was a Mason. Could this have just been harmless fun or even at a low level could there have been deeper implications?IP: Logged |

I've never heard if Job's daughters, but most of my maternal family is/were in the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star.To my knowledge, there have been spooky implications. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. And I think Job's Daughters is basically for a daughter or granddaughter of a Mason.IP: Logged |

Most, unfortunately, have now passed. My Grandfather was (I think) a 33 degree Member of the Scottish Rite, but he died when I was 15. My Grandmother was of the Eastern Star, but I never asked her much. Much of the rest of my extended family on that side were/are members, but...you know, it was never something I was interested enough in to delve that much into. When my grandmother passed, we collected all of the accoutrements and gave them to another Mason that we know. I poked around some of the literature, and it mostly seems like a good ol' boys club steeped with some slightly orientalist mumbo-jumbo to make the members feel special. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. I don't know much about the Job's Daughters, but when I had to take my daughter down to Shriners' Hospital, I found out an immense history of my family being members. It was an Enlightening Experience. I love the Hospital, the doors are all named after Constellations, and in our hour of need they were there when the orthodox medical professions had let us down drastically. I will always be Thankful that some give of themselves to help the babies. We always save our pennies and pop-tops to support those of a Worthy Nature. This was a True Healing Place, not like the health for profit hospital I have seen others experience. IP: Logged |

No, I think it supports both genders. There's a Worthy Patron as well as a Worthy Matron, anyway. The Rainbow Girls and DeMolay is for youths. Daughters of the Nile. We sew for the babies. IP: Logged |

Order of the Eastern Star has five different points they base their Teachings on, each one represented by a different woman of the Bible.Esther, Ruth, sorry can't remember the others. It was originally set up as a Complement to the Masonic Order. About the Masons/Shriners: Personally, I feel it has become somewhat of a status thing for the most part, but they do some Wonderful things. I have been privileged to be in the company of some of those Men, and I have learned many things just from listening to them. Wonderful Enlightening and Heartwarmingly Felt Experiences. But I did learn to appreciate the things I have found, as they don't welcome women into their Order. Except maybe in France. IP: Logged |

It was kind of funny.I was there to mail one package off, and the Postman drove right up to me in the driveway, and we exchanged gifts right through his little window, so to speak. Weird. IP: Logged |
