sorry, i know most of you are vegetarian or vegan and actually i am too, but there are these amazing studies about the effect of fish oil on mental illness. It also seems that babies who were given omega 3 fish oils grew up to have a higher IQ. And if you take 3 g a day it can take away the symptoms of manic depression, schizophrenia and depression. As well as reducing the risk of heart diseases. Actually right now i'm on it./xxOpaz

Rainarcher~ Thanks for the heads up I can't recall that I've welcomed you yet, so let me do that first...

!!! WELCOME !!! I just love your nic

Given the mal-health of humans in most *civilized* countries, health so bad we can not even give birth to *naturally-healthy* offspring, it would seem quite likely that many nutrients our diets are lacking in, or are completely absent of, would be of a health benefit - especially when it can be determined what IS lacking, and where.

I've felt for a very long time that *mental illness* is primarily caused by, or at least greatly facilitated by, malnutrition of some sort or another (if not that, then *genius* )

I believe that fish oil can probably benefit someone suffering from a form of mental illness by way of nurturing the body with a building block it's lacking; then helping the body heal itsElf - but I don't think fish oil, or anything, will *cure* mental illness.

Hello there Rainarcher. Nice to see a fellow SAG. WELCOME to the site....

Interesting about the fish oil as the 'old wives tale' said fish was 'brain food'.

Hello..I recently started taking the omega-3 acid DHA. There has been research done showing many correlations between low levels of DHA and certain behaivoral and neurologic conditions that go along with aging, such as depression, memory loss and visual problems. As well as low levels of DHA in children who are diagnosed with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

The reason I was recommened DHA was because I am pregnant and it is a nutrient that is important for both infant brain and visual development. It is recommended for women who are breastfeeding as well, because breast milk is a primary source of DHA for your baby. Sources especially abuntant in Omega-3 fatty acids are Cold water fish(salmon, mackerel, albacore tuna and sardines), or plant sources(pumpkin or flax seed, kale, chard and collards).
Health, Happiness, and Healing to all!

I don't feel bad at all encouraging people to take fish oil. It's soooo good for you. Flax seeds as well. Nothing but promising results. Just make sure the fish oil you get is one known for not having mercury.
These help so many things, not just brain fuctioning.

It also lowers cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, and virtually eliminates migraines!

FISH OIL! Amazing stuff. If you are vegetarian you can always take Flax seed oil.. not quite the same but still very very good.

I give my son a combination of both everyday. He has verbal apraxia and the omega-3's are BRAIN FOOD. It's really helped his speech along quite nicely. I've heard amazing things from other people that give it to their kids, too.

I could go on and on about Fish oil and breastfeeding babies because it so fabulously good for them =D

You can take Coromega, it fish oil in a very pleasant orange flavored pudding medium. It comes in a little packet. Much nicer than having the fishy after taste and it smells like **ORANGES** DHA is so important for everyone, but especially babies and children as is breastfeeding. We should start a thread on breastfeeding!!!!
