Welcome apmaju!! Wish I knew of some helpful knowledge for you, but I don't myself, although there may be others here who do. I do know that with the immune system, there are herbs that will help with strengthing and such but I do not know enough about your condition to recommend any. Do you meditate or do yoga? Relaxing your mind will strengthen the body for sure. Well, I have faith you will find the right things to do and you will get your energy back for you and your daughter! Hello Apmaju Nice to meet you I've just read your post, I have also "suffered" with thyroid problems. For my own experience - this has been going on for about 16 years, probably longer, I just seem to have had it for ever Initially I was over active....lost a ton of weight, developed a goiter in my neck, was hot all of the time, had the hand shakes, was always "on the go" etc etc. My whole system was speeded up. My heart used to pound in my chest so fast that I used to think it would one day just stop as it couldn't carry on beating that fast. And that's just a few of the "symptoms" I had. Anyway after years of taking tablets (carbimizole)....on tablets for 2 years, ok for 2 years, back on the tablets, off the tablets, on the tablets..... I was advised by my specialist to have the radioactive iodine treatment. I was extremely worried about this but all doctors assured me that it was the right thing to do. The first treatment didn't work. They gave me another - I was immediately thrown into being underactive and developed a thyroid eye desease. Anyway as horrible as that all sounds. I had an operation to correct my eye problem - they are now great! I also take thyroxine tablets everyday and I feel great. I have had no problems for years now. So in saying all of that to you. What does your doctor say? Have you seen a endocrinologist? If not then I would recommend that you do. If you're gaining weight then it sounds like you have an underactive thyroid. Also have you seen a reputable homeopath. I believe this can also help, even though I did try that and it didn't work for me. I hope my personal experience helps in some way but I'm sure Elohim will give you some great advice. Sue IP: Logged |

I have read numerous articles that say some people with Hyper who are on treatment can eventually become Hypo. But, people with Hyper can also GAIN weight-even though you're thyroid is working overtime (hence "hyper") and your metabolism may thus be faster, your apetite is also increasing. Your apetite may increase more than your metabolism, causing you to gain weight. My first endocrinologist thought I had Graves Disease, and my new physician and better endorcrinologist found that I had/have soemthing called "Subacute Thyroiditis." That's when you start with symptoms of Hyper and then Hypo (usually) and the illness is supposed to even itself out-I might have had a Goiter (enlarged thyroid), I had very rapid heartbeat (I thought I was having anxiety attacks without the heavy breathing) where my heart would pound so hard I thought it would burst right through my chest. I lost weight, my TSH was (and still is) undetectable, and I have large amounts of thyroid antibodies present. I also could not sleep, had other digestive problems and did not react well to heat. The first endocrinologist was so unprofessional and she swore I had grave;'s disease and gave me propranolol for the heart pounding. i never took it since i didn't trust her or that office. my next endocrinologist thoroughly examined me and gave me a different prognosis (after doing to radioactive iodine uptake exam and thyroid scan)...but now I've gained weight (i look puffy-almost like a constant bloated look and my diet hasn't changed) and no matter how much sleep i get, it's not enough. basically, i guess i;m telling you all of this to tell you it could be a number of things...you should see an endocrinologist (if you haven't already). Good luck-let us know how everything is!! The endocrinologist will be better prepared to answer questions regarding thyroid and weight. IP: Logged |
