Where I work I am constantly exerting myself by lifting heavy things, climbing tall shelves, and bake in the high tempratures here. I guess my question is how much if that is too much when I get pregnant? I cant see myself saying, "Well, the bun is cookin', better go to a desk job." I love my job and I like the fact that my job requires me to be healthy and keeps me in shape. Do people give up jobs like that when they're pregnant? Or maybe it will be something I have to find out depending on how my body reacts to pregnancy. I dunno. What do you guys think? **Joga**IP: Logged |

Joga, my two cents would be that you get your doctor's opinion...while a woman shouldn't be taking risks during pregnancy by lifting heavy objects and such, it also isn't a good idea to suddenly seek out a desk job and claim that you are no longer able to exert yourself. Keeping in shape is key to a healthy pregnancy (and also is important for the birth itself), but your doctor is the one who, after discussing your medical history with you, can determine just how much may be *too much*.And of course everyone is different...my doctor probably would have had a fit if he'd known I was on my hands and knees scrubbing floors when I was 8 months pregnant (hey, I wanted to keep active and it was too cold to go outside!)....yet going to another extreme, I once worked with a girl who was about 3 or 4 months pregnant...I remember one day she dropped a paper on the floor and stood there until someone walked by, then asked them to pick it up for her as she was *in too delicate a condition to strain herself*. And if you and/or your doctor decides that your job is too physically demanding, perhaps you could talk to your supervisor and ask him/her to for help during those times when it is too much for you to do alone. Oh, and enjoy your pregnancy when it does happen! IP: Logged |

Hey, I was cleaning homes till I was 8 months pregnant, I had no problems untill near the end where I actually felt the strain of picking up a vacume and stuff and I would have to take more breaks too, I always used a mask when using chemicals and stuff too. But one of the ladys I was cleaning with said she was a bundle of energy her whole pregnancy where as I became very tired. Things like how much weight you gain will be a big factor, some gain alot and some next to none, I think in your case weight would be an issue, if you gain alot you may find your self loosing your balance real easy (while climbing) just cause the weight comes on in such a short time span, so it is a shock to your body. But yes talk to your Dr. Swan song gave the best advice as far as that goes. Another thing is, you could always just take your maternity leave a few months early, so at 6 1/2 months, and if your maternity leave lasts 12 months than you can go back when the baby would be 9 1/2 months. That way you can always stay at your job.Good luck Rue IP: Logged |
