Hi guys,

I learned something new over the last few days that I wish I had known years ago when Spanky started to have problems with his "plumbing".

Pumpkin is a natural laxative for cats. I have been putting a large teaspoon of pureed pumpkin in with his food twice a day and it is working wonders.

I don't know how easy it is to get a cat to eat it ... Spanky has a peg tube that I just put into his tummy with a syringe. But I feel so much better giving him pumpkin than some horrible medication or even Metamucil.

Just wanted to share that with you all.

Love and Light,

Heidi

Hi Heidi,

I'm so glad your cat is OK, especially in light of this horrible experience I had yesterday: I saw a car in front of me run over a cat. I took him to the vet, but he was already dead, but the most awful thing was to see him fight for his life so desperately. It was horrible, my eyes are still swollen from crying, I think I never cried so hard in my life. Sorry to put a damp on this topic, but I just need to share this, I'm so sad right now. I hope your kitty gets well real soon

I'm so sorry you had to see that Morgana. I can imagine how horific that must have been. I saw a car in front of me hit what I thought was a cat once (it turned out to be a possum which was nearly as bad.) I was so hysterical that I couldn't breathe. Everytime I see a cat run in front of a car I start to panic. The fact that you stopped and tried to save it was the right thing to do. I hope he didn't suffer. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. No animal deserves to die like that.

Oh, {{{{ morgana}}}}

So sorry such an awful thing happened -- at least that poor cat was lucky that a kind, loving hero like you was there to offer comfort, to witness his struggle, and care enough to try to save him. What you did was important and made a difference -- I'm sure he knew and appreciated it even if there was no time to show you.

Thanks Heidi about the pumpkin -- will keep it in mind. I need to make up another batch of home-made catfood again -- I've taken to mixing greens in with the meat and powders, but might be able to sneak in a little pumpkin.

Thanks guys, I'm still trying to recover. I never saw someone die before I think he didn't suffer, he was probably dead soon after I picked him up, and I was told that cats fight to the last second, but this one was completely still after I put him in the car. But I wasn't sure at that time, I couldn't feel if he's breething or not because my hands were shaking so hard, and he could've been breathing so shallowly that I couldn't feel it, so you just don't take chances on that. And I'm horrified just to think that he'd be there, alive, suffering, but nobody would know about it. I was too slow in reacting though, I keep reproaching myself for that, but I couldn't save him anyway. And to top it all off, we have the most inefficient vet service you ever saw. You call and nobody answers, then you go to the clinic just to see they have spring cleaning and nobody's there. Then there's a phone number you call and it's not the right one!!!! Finally someone tells you who to call, only for that person to tell you that the cat is dead if his pupils are fully dilated and that he's not going to bother coming to the clinic just to make sure. I'm gonna go there today and give them a piece of my mind and at least get them to change that wrong phone number! I'm so angry I could spit! But at least now I know what to do if something like that happens again. Hopefully never again

I'm really sorry about the venting, but I'm really having a hard time getting over this. Thanks for listening

Morgana, vet care is lax here too and it is life threatening as well as deeply frustrating. You can make a difference by chewing on the vet for the wrong number and prevent it from ever happening again! Perhaps the kitty didn`t die in vain and you and him will save lives by correcting the situtation. There is a reason for events in our lives. Your will ache less if you take action.

I`ve had to take crash courses in four- legged diagnosis & care & highly recommend it to all.

Bless you morgana

Oh I don't believe that Heidi

Juniperb,
That's exactly what I'm doing Yesterday I turned a couple of phone numbers to find out who's responsible for the fact that the phone numbers of veterinarians on call are not available through information (!). I got brushed off a couple of times (apparently no one is reponsible, surprise surprise), but then I called Vet Association and talked to a kind lady who obviously actually cares and she told me that they tried to get the numbers published in the daily newspaper a few years ago but nobody was interested (!!), so she told me to write a complaint and mail it to them so she can have something to present to the board and get the ball rolling in order to try to get the numbers available to the general public through Information. That is my goal. I wrote the letter and I'm gonna mail it today and I'm not gonna go away, I'm gonna pester them until they do it, and if I need a petition to make it happen, so be it. Piece of cake. I'm sure everyone will want to sign it.
So, I feel much better now, thank you again for listening!!

P.S. I adore cats

Heidi

Thanks for the tip; I'll keep it in mind if my kitty Arthur should ever have that problem. It sounds like Spanky is doing much better! Your love and devotion are making the difference!

Morgana

I'm so sorry you had to witness that; my heart goes out to you!! I agree with Lunargirl and Juniperb...try to take comfort in knowing that just being there for that poor kitty at its passing made the transition easier for him/her. I'd bet that if you could talk to the Pet Psychic (a TV program) she'd tell you the cat is saying "Thank-you".

And yes...taking action on the vet matter to me, says there WAS a reason it was YOU that had to witness such a tragic incident. You stay with this (I know you will) until something is done. If I could, I'd help you with petitions!

Heidi and Morganna...

I just had to point this out: You BOTH have a Scorpio Moon. Referring to the Moonsign Descriptions thread, remember this part:

"this Moon has the most courage and more will power than all the other signs put together".

It seems never to be easy for us Lunar Scorps, yet time and again I see proof of how our passion and dedication when channeled in a positive way...can make amazing things happen. Bless you both.

Oh, Beautiful Morgana, don't reproach. Like Lunargirl said: I 'm sure that he was grateful for your caring. Another living creature can always feel the caring of another and only think how IN NEED he was and how relieved he must have been to feel someone near who cared.

Thank you all so much!!!

Well I mailed the letter, got them to change the phone number (giving the secretary a hard time trying to make her feel at least a bit responsible - well, she is, isn't she, she should check if the numbers are correct - and to convince her to get the numbers more public), and now I just have to wait for the reply. If not, I'll keep pestering them. The easiest thing is to make a phone call, or a hundred of them for that matter I can be veeeery persistent if I'm properly motivated. Yes, Twinlady, there's that Scorp Moon

Thank you all so much again, Juniperb, Heidi, Lunargirl, Twinlady, Silverbells!
You don't know how much your support here means to me, it made everything so much more meaningful. This thing hurt me so much, I even don't know why exactly, but I hardly ever smiled in these past few days. Maybe it triggered something in my subconscious and it really left a wound. Maybe I'll figure it out sometime, but in the meanwhile I hope my kitty really didn't die in vain, as you all say. Thank you all for giving me love and motivation! Now I know where to turn if I ever run out!!

to all,

morgana

P.S. Heidi, I just realized I took over your thread - I'm sorry!
