PART ONE I have been sick since Sunday night the 22nd of February with a sore throat, fatigue, and basically no energy. I stayed home from work all last week. The Doctor said I have a Viral Illness/Infection and tested me for Mono. Basically there is nothing to give for a virus but time. I have had a sore throat every day still. This morning I went to work although I didn't feel good, so I could at least say I tried. Well I pushed myself to stay 2 1/2 hours and was miserable so came home full of fatigue and no energy.NOW PART 2 My supervisor told me that I need to "eat meat", and "eat some protein"......because she can't understand why I am still sick. I always just smile and don't reply much because I don't feel I have to justify or explain myself being vegetarian. I DO get a lot of protein but why do I have to even explain? Last year when I worked at another location, and I was out sick with a viral infection at that time, they were telling me I need to "eat meat" "and I will get better". One girl even called me from work and said, "please, trust me, eat some meat and you will feel better". Well HELLO PEOPLE WHO NEVER KNEW A VEGETARIAN BEFORE! I am Vegetarian because I love animals and I could never put flesh in my mouth again. It is not so simple as just to "tell me" and "okay I will eat meat just because you tell me. I will put all my spiritual and educational beliefs about eating animals aside just because you think I am sick because I don't eat meat". So basically I always just don't reply much about it, because I know they don't know any better, they have never been educated about Vegetarianism and Health, I just try and smile and say "oh, I get a lot of protein".....etc. SO WHAT WOULD YOUR REPLY BE WHEN PEOPLE TELL YOU TO EAT MEAT? Say to them "With the overabundance of antibiotics and other chemicals present in meat due to factory farming processes, I wonder why you would suggest I eat something that may actually stunt my immune system, making it harder for me to get better."Too subtle? MK IP: Logged |

Anyone who would suggest eating meat to get rid of a sickness is an idiot. I meant that in a nonjudgemental way, haha...right. What's the right response? Just say, no meat doesn't agree with me. You could always hit them with a nice blunt remark like, "It gives me explosive diarrhea." That would shut them right up!Eat lots of fruit, which is purifying for the body when it's sick. Grapefruit seed extract is a powerful antibiotic. Its super bitter, but if you mix it with some OJ it's fine. Feel better! IP: Logged |

Glad to help.....I can always be counted on for a snappy (and usually snotty) comeback.Good luck, and please let us know what happens with your illness..I'll send some good healthy thoughts your way. Drink lots of fresh juices, get lots of sleep, don't push your self to return to work if you feel crappy. Keep me informed? Cool........ MK IP: Logged |

8 degrees ~ that is hilarious. depends on what kind of mood I'm in, ha ha ha! Thank you both so much. I have been making fresh juices every day. Carrot, celery, orange, parsley, spinach, red bell pepper and/or apple. Whatever I happen to feel like I'll mix up. I eat an apple every single day. For dinners I usually have steamed veggies with something. On Saturday I also started taking Echinacea w/Goldenseal. I had forgotten that I had it earlier in the week. You'd think with all this I would be better by now. Thanks again IP: Logged |

if this helps - I am an indian and my wife and i (indeed, our families and a majority of indians) have been vegetarians all our lives, and we are pretty healty people (can have paunches too ). indian vegetarian food is not only healthy, but it also offers an amazing amount of choice in terms of taste..something that many people outside india don't realise. so - vegetarian food is not healthy and proven to be so, it can also be fun to eat !IP: Logged |

Nephthys, while probably NOT appropriate, I reply with "yes, you`re right, I`ve been meaning to butcher the dogs this week". It is gross but gives them something to think about. I`m past the explainations & go straight to the heart of the issue. juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

The most polite way to reject an invitation is to say a firm, "No" with a smile. Say No with the "O" sound deepening in and depth, and keep it short. Saying No with a high tilt at the end and stretching out the sound makes people think it is really a may be. Good Luck. IP: Logged |

Hey, your supervisor has no right to tell you what to eat - that's a personal decision. Just smile and shrug coz I guess some people are never gonna learn, eh? The benefits of a meatless diet are many and I agree, people should be educated on a subject before they just open their mouths.

I am a meat-eater but if I were you I'd tell your supervisor and anyone else who wants you to eat meat to bog off !! Why should you eat meat ??? There's no reason and they are probably just jealous cause they want to be veggie too ! IP: Logged |

I would say 'I don't want to eat meat'. If they asked me why, I'd simply reply 'Just don't'.------------------ Dana IP: Logged |

I am glad your better Nephthys. SOmetimes it helps if you look at where the person was coming from, or their motive. They just wanted to help you. They weren't trying to change your beleifs and spiritual thoughts, they just wanted you to feel healthy. ------------------ Namaste! IP: Logged |

Thanks Fajita. I do realize people's intentions are good, however some people think they "know" the answer to everything and they must preach it to you. In my case I have had enough of carnivores telling me to eat meat. Enough is enough. IP: Logged |
