I quit smoking almost a year ago, and in the past few weeks hubby and I have been looking at buying a house, and w/ the stress of that I've returned to smoking somewhat - not full time, but I think all smokers and ex-smokers know where that's going...

I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to start smoking again. Talk about a monkey on your back, let's put it this way - I refrained from much drug use as a teen because I knew that if I ever got addicted to something like I was to cigarettes, I'd be screwed.

So with that, I'd like to respectfully ask for prayers, white light, positive energy, anything at all whatsoever to help give me the strength to fight the urge to begin smoking again.

Thanks!

good luck, you can do it! But stop now!!!!!

There's no such thing as an ex-smoker, You will always be a "recovering nicotine addict!"

Sigh, don`t I know.

I went to a hypnotherapist as it is theory that an addiction is a substitution and to get to the root, I needed to explore it. Very very interesting and the root discovered and cured.

It`s hard but very doable and never give up or beat yours-elf. Loving yours-elf plays into the quitting

You CAN do it.

Juniper- so you quit by using a hypnotherapist? And that worked for you? I've heard that some have had success with that, and I've thought of going to one.

I quit 11 months ago, but I never really QUIT, I didn't stop the psychological addiction in any way really, just stopped using it. Like a "dry drunk" if anyone is familiar w/ alcholism.

Anyway, please do tell about your xp w/ hypnotherapy!

Thanks

Isis, it was a very profound affair. It took two 1 hour visits. One for cause the next to quit.

Hypnotism (sp) is a very useful tool and I highly recommend it. I`ve since learned how to induce the state for meditative purposes.

That aside, the urge still remains from time to time. Old needs are hard to shed.I live with a smoker, so my challenge is risky at best. I had quit for years at a time only to return with that as my excuse.

Don`t do a group thing. Do a one on one and and if you really wish to quit, you will

I've tried to quit several times, so I know what you're going through. I think it's safe to say that we, in LL, are here for you.

I found I had to change my routine constantly. I couldn't stay with just the patch, for instance. At one point, I was so tired of fighting the craving that I yelled at myself> "Are you so weak that you'd give in to...." It worked! LOL
So even if it's silly you should try it!

Good Luck!

It's tough to quit. I smoked regularly for a while and it was hard to cut back. I stopped smoking entirely for a while ... just up and quit one day.
My hubby's also a smoker and the temptation is always there. Nowadays, however, I only smoke clove cigarettes, and only every once in a while. It's that mental/emotional issue for me, I guess, because I only really want one every now and then when I'm drinking a cup of coffee. (I used to be the I'm-not-awake-unless-I-have-my-coffee-and-cigaratte person.)
Sometimes I still get the urge to smoke regularly ... I'll notice I'll start smoking a little more often, a little more often, etc. When this happens, I'll just let the butts sit in the ashtray for days until they start to pile up. The sight and smell of all the ash and butts makes me feel sick and I have a much easier time letting go. It's a gross way to deal, but it works for me.

My sister in-law did a group hypnotherapy thing, and they had her imagine breaking a cigg into 4 parts and eating it, filter and all. Then they have you imagine licking a 2 week old ash-tray....I do smoke, with the thoughts of quiting for some time now, and thinking about licking that ash-tray is enough to make me want to run to the bathroom and....well, you get the picture.

Think of being clean = ) And how clean you want to be, it helps some, so does drinking water, or finding something for your hands to do when you want one = )

Know that I'm praying for you and sending all the positive energy that comes to me = )

Lol, love begets love....never frget your origans

Staying away from cigarretts/anything addictive is an ongoing process...

I'm not a regular smoker, but I do smoke sometimes. All I can say to you is, when you feel pressure, depression or whatever the urge is, just shout aloud to yourself:

STOP!
CANCEL!
CHANGE!

And imagine your lungs getting black and hardened (I'm not condemning smokers! Remember what I've just mentioned above?)...

Meanwhile, I'll say a prayer for you and I am sending out loads of white light and positive energy to you...

Love
Peace
Joy

Yikes Radna, that`s not my cup `o tea! I didn`t wish anything put in my subconscious, but rather a look at why I smoke. What desires it fullfills which ment looking at what`s in the subconscious rather that adding to the accumulation there.

Cigarette tax is going up 75 cents here bringing a generic pack to 4.98 a pack.Brand names pushing 6 bucks each. That`s one good reason to quit!

Actually, the last time I smoked was about six months ago, and I don't intend to smoke again, because it is really bad for me. A friend of mine has tried to quit smoking for a couple of times, and she would preach others to imagine how you 'kill your lungs' and stuff like that...
