Laser surgery.. it is non invasive, but works. You should ask your doctor.
It is a vascular thing.. not cosmetic at all. So topically, there isn't a whole lot that will actually work ( despite claims to the opposite.) Vitamin K helps will bruising, but those are not bruises....

Cosmetically, you can use a waterproof makeup if they bother you. (it's not just for your face) To get in that swimsuit or shorts.
Elevate your legs when you sit down.
Try not to cross your legs ( I am doing that right now.. ooops!) as the pressure increases the likelihood that you will get them. Sure, it looks feminine, but ah.... spider veins don't. ( I have just uncrossed my legs. .)

I also heard that high heels cause spider veins as well.
Pixelpixie-->But is that all you can do to prevent them?

Are we talking prevention or treatment?
Prevention is not so simple.
I depends alot on uncontrollable factors, like how translucent your skin is, the climate you live in, gender....
What you do for a living, even...
If you sit all day, compressing the veins in your legs over a period of time... ba-boom... If you stand on your feet all hours of the day (especially in one spot) Ba-boom.
I think if you take car to wear comfortable (non-binding) socks and panty hose, unless they are the compression type some people need for circulation.....
It is basically repeated, chronic pressure on the same area that contributes to spider veins, or thrombosis, or any vascular extremity problem. Constriction, pooling of blood, puts pressure on your veinous system, breaking some of the superficial ones.
I am no doctor, mind you, I just know some stuff. So ask your Doctor for real advice, as mine will only be partial information.

You know what? I just had another thought ( it happens sometimes .)
When you say spider veins, do you mean broken capillaries? Like the ones beside your nose/ etc.. from sun damage/cold, etc? I think I can follow my thought process there, in that there was a leg question, and I guess my mind immediately went to varicose veins.
Hmmm.
Same answer, really, in terms of getting rid of them. Vit.K is touted to fade discolourations, but because they are such a small network of veins just breaking at the surface of the skin, if you are fair/thin skinned, you see it more...... Laser will remove them. In trms of anything topical? Little will. Make up will help camouflage them, and the bare facts are if you live.. squeeze your nose/ squeeze pimples/ blow your nose/ have any sort of repeated Sun exposure, you will get them. Wear sunscreen to prevent, and be gentle with your skin. I see a customer who has squeezed the he## out of her nose trying to get blackheads, all she accomplished was to make a huge comodone that constantly fills up, and nice broken capillaries all around the site. This is permanent.
If you have blocked pores, use a micro bead scrub... gentle, and allow the beads to do the work, by repetative strokes, not with manpower and a hard hand.... be gentle. [gentle gentle gentle]
or use a product with salicylic acid, or other glycolic/AHA's. Benzoil peroxide works to dissolve oil and impurities as well, and dries the site. I am one for encouraging gentle extraction, as sometimes it does work the best.. but be very hygenic and [gentle] Could I say gentle anymore?
AND MOISTURIZE!!!!!! Oil free, if that is a problem, and a broad spectrum SPF.
I hope I answered your actual question ( and then some)
So...... ask your dermatologist.... they will say Laser.
