So I'm experiencing some pinch-y pains, kind of like those felt when ovulating. Impossible though, as I am on the pill.

Called the gynecologist's office and was told by the receptionist, well, could be ovarian cysts. Come in for an UltraSound. So I have an apt. on the 21st.

Bleh.

She also said sometimes cysts are treated by increasing the dosage of birth control, which I do not want to do. 'Course, I can't jump to conclusions when nothing's been diagnosed yet.

But hey, if anyone has any information to share, I'd like to hear it.

Muchas Gracías.

As I get OLDER, I'm very aware of when I'm ovulating. To the point of feeling extreme stabbing. I went to the Doc. and had the ultrasound and discovered I have ovaries three times the size as most women. Can't I just be normal for once in my life???
My life is so grandiose, why not my ovaries?
She just said there isn't a problem, I'm just aging and maybe more sensitive. This must explain the 26 turtle babies I sent 26 Taurus. I also embarrassed my self by asking if that meant I had more eggs. UUUUUHHH, NO!
Can't help you, but maybe this will give you a chuckle!

Last month i was experiencing some weird cramping on my left side. In the past, since you switch ovaries every time you ovulate, every other period was more painful than the last. I figured it was one of those bad months (and upon checking my calendar, it did coincide). One morning I woke up to use the restroom and as i was sitting there, I got this incredible sharp pain that jolted through my lower stomach. I waited to see if it would pass, but it got worse and I ended up doubled over on the bathroom floor sobbing. (I have a high tolerance for pain, too)

My boyfriend heard me and came in to see what was going on. I told him I thought my appendix was going to explode, "Take me to the hospital!!"

Eventually, I learned that I had a large ovarian cyst--mine was 4 centimeters, but they get up to 6--on my left ovary. This runs in my family, in fact my cousin has endemetriosis--very bad, but that it is very common. usually, when the egg is released, the cells around it can develop into cysts, but they are absorbed back into the body without any notice or pain. Mine, however, became enlarged and began bleeding into itself, thus the pain. They put me on birth control and a few days ago I had to get another ultrasound to see if it was decreasing. At the moment. I am waiting for my mom to get out of her meeting to tell me what the report is. I can relate--I have only been in that much pain one other time when I almost died from a scorpion sting when I lived in Arizona. (Most scorpions aren't deadly, just the one that I happened to step by . . .)

Anyway, that's my story. I hope everything checks out okay for you. My doctor told me that cysts are common, but if you experience pain, you need to get it checked out. If a large one is on an ovary, it can weigh it down and possibly flop over. This can twist the fallopian tube and you'd be in much pain and would need to get surgery quick. In my case, birth control should prevent me from ovulating, which would not bring back any cysts, but not much time has passed to judge what it going on.

Most women know that ovaries are small oblong pearly coloured organs that lie below the fellopian tubes either side of the uterus. Ovaries produce eggs about once a month from about age 14 or 15. after you first start your period, it normally takes a few years for ovulation to get more regular.

Ovulation always produces small cysts in the ovaries. These are the result of newly developing eggs, or eggs that are already formed, or in places where they were formed. As the eggs are formed they are normally covered by a fluid like substance to protect them, this fluid filled area is known as the cyst. It is normal, a fact many women don't even know.

When the egg is released and picked up by the fallopian tube the cyst normally bursts, but where the egg used to be a small cystic area known as corpus lutuem develops and begins to release progesterone. So the reason I'm giving you all a biology lesson, is to tell you all that ovarian cysts smallish ones are quite normal throughout a womans reproductive life,
in fact I would say we all have them.

In premenopausal women it is generally thought that cysts less than four centimetres were normal. A cyst that may be larger may be watched for a few months to see what happens. This is also normal, sometimes it goes away on it's own.

We give different sized cysts different names. With ovarian cysts most are completely unfelt while others can cause minor discomfort to sharp pain. This is normally caused by a release of blood from the pelvic cavity ( mid cycle pain ) the pain is caused because the bleeding can stretch the ovarian capsule. This is common and often goes away. If it does not, a small surgical laparoscope might be needed. You do NOT NEED to have the ovary removed.

If the cysts are large and solid like and don't go away after three or more cycles and are causing discomfort or other risks, then these types are not caused by ovulation. More testing is required and then a choice has to be made in regards to surgery.

I hope yours are just benign normal cysts, that because of extra fluid were more felt than normal. I hope you feel better soon.

Good Luck.

Gia

Something I learned when I was having a lot of issues taking BCP's is that you can still ovulate while on them. They have a twofold process. 1. Suppress ovulation and 2.they make changes in the uterine lining so an egg wont stick should ovulation occur.
Yes, i was quite shocked by this. This may be why they are saying to take a stronger pill. The one you are on may not be strong enough to stop ovulation.

Thanks Ladies. Philly, you always make me smile.

zoso, is your nick a reference to the Led Zep album? I hope you do well with your treatment, keep us posted.

Gia, as always, thank you for your wealth of information. My gut feeling is that I won't have anything to worry about. I'm not fond of waiting, though. Wish I had an earlier appt.

Thirteen, no, I wasn't aware of being able to ovulate while on BCP. But I have no other signs of ovulation, and by that I mean there is no ovulation mucous.

I'm not in any discomfort, the pinch-y pains are mild at most. I'm aware of them, and want to be smart about whatever they might be.

Yin, you're such a sweetie.

Thank you again.

By the by...
I just started bc pills, and I will soon be on my second cycle of them, I have noticed that I am not as ...shall we say...'slippery' during lovemaking. I don't like that part of it. But that's what lubricant is for I guess. Wierd to see changes in my body.

Thanks Pixiel I don't really have trouble with the slippery stuff...perhaps your body is still adjusting.

Right. No Ben-Gay. But a teensy eensy drop of peppermint oil perhaps... (And I mean teeny!)

A good peppermint toothpaste will work. And by that, I mean if you both brush your teeth well before any lovin'.

yes! My name is from Led Zep (my favorite) but not a specific album, although the fourth un-named one seems to be called the Zoso album, but all four members chose their own symbol and the zoso symbol is an alchemic (is that a word?) one that Jimmy Page used. He is my muse!

But, I hope everything is okay with you! I didn't know that you can ovulate on the pill. They put me on a NuvaRing, which is a ring inserted and left in for three weeks, allowing your body to absorb the hormones at a lower dose, since it doesn't have to go through the GI tract.

My doctor reported that the cyst is decreasing and will be gone soon, but she reiterated that cysts are VERY common, so that made me feel better and should make you feel better, too!

Again, I hope everything goes well and doesn't cause any problems!

I have cysts on my overies that cause pain and I had one burst a few years ago.

There are options when dealing with these cysts. I personally do not take birth contol pills to help with the cysts.
