this is a very good site...International Vegetarian Society IVU is a union of vegetarian societies around the world founded in 1908. World Vegetarian Congresses have been held every two or three years in different parts of the world. did you know that Russia declared vegetarianism illegal after the 1917 revolution, and closed their vegetarian societies and restaurants? the faq page in particular is very informative: IVU faq

he he, i didn't read that about the bourgeois culture....but wouldn't you think that the peasant class, or working class, in Russia would be largely vegetarian as well? perhaps not by choice...i guess they wanted meat to be available to all. but in that respect, why is vegetarianism a bourgeoisie thing? if meat is a class item, unavailable to some, wouldn't vegetarianism be the great equalizer? I've tried many times to become a Vegan, but I think my body has been programmed for so long to eat meat, chicken, and pork that I can't quit? I have total and utmost respect for people who are Vegans! More power to you! Peace and Love

What you have to do Moonshine is stop trying. Just let it happen, it's a long process as our body's are already poisened from a long time of meat-eating. And like you said, programmed. From your post it sounds like you don't eat red meat, that is a beginning, and slowly reduce the intake of other meats and dairy. Linda recommended 15 years for the entire process. The more aware you become the less your need for meat will be, it should come naturally, and not be forced. Listen within, and you'll know what to do. Osho once said, when you remember yourself, your eating and lifestyle will change accordingly to who you are. And not the other way around, ie. don't change lifestyle to change who you are. ------------------ "And dreams, don't ever forget, are the first step in manifesting wishes into reality"-- Linda Goodman's Star Signs

hi moonshine ~i have respect for vegans too...i'm not there yet. but i also tried to become vegetarian many times and it just never seemed to stick. then i read 'Fit For Life' by harvey and marilyn diamond and somehow it triggered something in my brain and it just clicked. the programming came effortlessly, and i don't think i could ever eat meat (of any kind, including seafood) ever again. it has lots of valuable information i'd certainly recommend. i've gone vegan for extended amounts of time, but have found the necessity of returning to ovo-lacto for different reasons. i think it is a learning process...it's compiling information for the time i'll actually be there -- when i'm ready. and it involves so much more than just what you eat. i think we prepare ourselves mentally and spiritually as well, and it all comes into being at the allotted time. keep the faith. Thank you Saffron and NeoKitty! I appreciate your positive input. I have started eating soy products a couple of years ago so it's a start I hope? I'll pick up that book you mentioned! sounds interesting! 15 years to become a Vegan for a procrastinator like me? sounds like a perfect start! Peace and Love

dear moonshine ~once you focus on it, it will happen much differently than you imagine! 'fit for life' will show you a completely different way of looking at things. by the way, i read in another thread that you recently had a baby -- congratulations! they are so amazing and wonderful at this time...please cherish every single moment....it goes so fast! my little one is 2 now, and while i love this time as much as any, i only now realize what a brief and magical time that 1st year is. you are different because of those post-partum substances coursing through your body. this time is pure magic...as is your babe. please relish and cherish it. it's a once in a lifetime highpoint. also, you said you had a c-section. i know it seems that the healing occurs over the first few months, but please be kind and careful with your body. it takes a full year to recover from this surgery. you might be more vulnerable to illnesses. just always remember to give yourself a little leeway and kindness. life with a babe can be overwhelming sometimes, so don't let the little stuff get to you. remember, you need to be strong for your babe, so take care of YOU. i can't stress enough how much healing time you need after a c-section. it really is at least a year. so treat yourself very well and delicately, and expect others to do so as well. the day i came home after my c-section i was dragging bags of laundry to the washer and waiting hand and foot on an ill family member. i moved house 7 months later. i put myself under way too much physical and mental stress, and got a bad case pneumonia that year! also other feminine problems, so finally decided to start an intensive program of vitamins. so necessary! i wish i had done so from the beginning. this will help you tremendously....a good multi, plus c, e, b complex, calcium and magnesium -- extras. also acidolphilous, or lots of live yogurt. get good quality, natural vitamins if possible. your body will be healing for the entire year, so please it give it the extra boost it needs. if you'd like to talk more about birthing options, etc. i'd love to talk via email. let me know! love and light and healing to you.....from saffron IP: Logged |

Thank you so much Saffron for your kind words of advice. I just finished some Yoga moves and feel good. Needed a good stretch since I now have a wee one to hold on to! and he's taking his nap so I thought I must take advantage of the time when it is given to me. Some days I sleep when he sleeps too but for the most part I feel like that I need to get myself in shape. It's soooooo good to speak to another woman about c-sections. Ever since the C I feel like my body's not my own. I'm tired all the time and have headaches and my hormones are going coo-coo! I want to eat chocolate all the time? never was big on sweets but now, forget it! Love it! I think you are right about the vitamins. I used to take them while I was pregnant and I really should not have dis-continued that. Bad move on my part! Your really amazing! I don't know how you got the energy to do all that after your C? I was so totally wiped out for the longest time. Still am. Also we're moving at the end of the month so I'll take your advice and try not to move anything heavy. In the meantime I'll keep in touch with you about how things are going? There's so much I want to say but don't know where to start! Peace and Love IP: Logged |
