I was just wondering.

How true is it that dyeing hair, will make it fall out??

The thing is, I did seem to have thicker hair when I was younger and more of it.

This is before I started dyeing it. (yeah I saw it too.. dyeing it )

With dyeing it I mean, the occassional set of highlights and lowlights.

I was always told my hair would fall out if I kept "messing with your hair!". I always wondered how it would affect the root though.

Does anyone know about hair that would kindly enlighten ('scuse the pun) me please?

Well, I've dyed my hair almost every color there is seems like. I don't know about the falling out part, but when I was younger my hair was very thick and it's kind of thinned out now because of all the dye. That's one thing you have to watch out for.

Well Im 24 and Ive been dying my hair red since I was 17 and it seems like my hair has actually gotten thicker, and it was thick enough to begin with. So at least for me it doesnt seem to be true.

Using demi/semi-permanents will actually thicken the shaft
*she said "thicken the shaft"*

It has enough peroxide ( 10-14% ) to open the cuticle and gently deposit colour, and gradually washes out. You can't lighten hair though.. only 'brighten' or go darker..
Whereas, permanent colour alters the structure of the hair. It deposits colour alongside your natural pigments, so I can see how it could thin the hair.
I dye my hair every month or so.

when I went to the hair dresser, she was mean and said my hair very damaged! I was like gee thanks a lot!!! She said it was from the box color because it was such a low quality and the conditioners they give you aren't very strong like the salon's are. Of course she prob couldn't say dying it in the salon is bad because well..thats what I was having done. But I do believe box must be worse for you hair..it better be its $7 compared to salon's &60!!!

My hair used to be thicker too I don't know which one had more impact the dye or my boyfriend

LeoSweetHeart ~ my hair gets a look from hairdressers at times! I say, I know - it's not in the best condition! I can't help it though, I love adding colour to my hair.

The thing is ladies ~ I love the combo of my hair being dark to light shades of brown with caramel & honey coloured highlights ~ high maintainence though!!!! My hair is naturally dark brown so the roots are really noticable.

I just got lowlights of chocolate brown / mahogany to cover the roots. So basically my hair is rich brown all over with a teeny amount of caramel highlights underneath the T-Section so when they grow, you can't see the roots.

I may stop colouring it ~ for a little while now since roots aren't an issue ~ just to see if the condition improves

dorkus ~ what colour is your hair now?

I wonder... what colourant are you using, sassy miss_apples? I'd love to find colour that improves hair!!

Pixie! You make me giggle lady!

Interesting you mention you can't 'lighten', only 'brighten' hair. I always used to wonder where the brown bits went when peroxide did its thing, you know? .... Then again I wonder alot of random things From what I've seen, your hair looks in tip-top condition for you to colour it every month.

Sheaa,
I haven't touched my hair in a while so my natural color (dark brown) is starting to show, but there are still a lot of red highlights.

Oh Miss apples! I use Feria too!!

I like it because, as it fades out, it blends with the color of my natural hair as its growing in! Maybe that's more about the color I get, not if it improves my hair ( I haven't noticed that.)

One time I tried to bleach my hair blond and it was a total disaster! I have dark hair and I had been dying it an auburn when I decided to do this. So it turned out peach-orange and I was such an dork--I did it again to get lighter! Okay...I actually did it a few more times and it turned into a bright peachy-orange. Very ugly.

Thank god(dess) I have grown all that out!! I had to go short for a while, but now I have my hair back. It felt like course dog hair or "hayish," and it's weird, too, because ever since I went short I started having dreams where I'd have long beautiful hair. I'd wake up and realize that m hair was gone. Such attachment...I loooovvvvee long hair!!! Especially on guys--so nice.

My experience with hair color, I think is worst, I feel like I have put hair remover on my head and just get lots of hair in my hand while washing.

I am so scared of coloring them. But I got some grey hair so I suppose I want to do hair coloring.

I wish my hair too love me and don't leave this bondage so quickly
