Is it? I've read so many posts about people stopping their meditating rotine because of some scary experience...is it? I would like to try it sometimes, but I'm afraid of falling asleep all the time. It's really annoying, always being so tired and sleepy. But anyway, i also read that it gave some people nightmares...?

meditation CONTROLS scary.
You do open your mind, yet at the same time, you learn your quiet mind. It is more restful than sleep, you feel at one with yourself, and that feeling of peace stays with you.
Don't be afraid to try it. Sometimes people will experience 'the spins'. You become aware of the boundaries of your body and spirit. You could have an OBE. But nothing will happen that will unalterably scar you.
This is your brain, your body, your control. You determine the experience you get.
If something creeps you out, surround yourself with white light, pray... and simply stop.
Be at peace with the experience.. you create your own reality in a lot of senses.
Maybe it will help to listen to a meditative soundtrack. Get you visualizing....
have fun and good luck.

Yep I'd have to agree with Pix.
I've also NEVER been scared, as I know, no harm can come to you.
It's so relaxing, and you are controlling the meditation anyway.
It's all good sweetie!

Try listening to relaxing music. Learn how to relax. If you fall asleep,it's fine. Try again until your body learns to relax without shuttting down. Most people who find it difficult or scary can't relax enough. Practice relaxing your body first.

Sometimes I get to this really deep point in meditation... I swear I feel myself pulling away.

It freaks me out... I panic, and snap... no more stillness.

Meditation isn't scary though... I'm just a nut job.

I'm not qualified to tell you how to meditate, but there are loads of books and tapes that can advise you.

Just wanted to say that if you are apprehensive, when you close your eyes, begin by surrounding yourself with the white light of the God/dess Source, that will keep you safe from all harm and/or negative energies.
