Has anyone else tried this?

I did some basic breaths last night, not even 10, and I woke up feeling pretty darned good and not as bloated (maybe it's because I'm done with my TOM)

I have worked with a therapist for the past 5 months on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She has emphasized deep breathing as a form of stress management. She led me through it a couple of sessions. You inhale slowly till your abdomen extends. She recommended to the count of 7. You hold a moment....then exhale to the count of 7. She said that if you do that everyday for about 3 minutes at a time for 3 weeks...then you can begin to use it on the spot to avoid anxiety or panic attacks or other unpleasant emotions. It has verifiable physiological effects. Oxygen goes into your brain and lungs and you become more clear, less tense. You can feel a tingling in your hands and feet. I try to do some deep breathing in the morning before I do prayer and affirmations. One day I was going all around town standing in lines to pay bills. I got in this especially long line at the end of the day. I did the deep breathing in line and found that I felt so much better and could wait patiently. I heard that Dr. Andrew Weil has a deep breathing and meditation tape. I have not seen it. I had a tape for it a long time ago but I couldn't stand the person's voice and gave it up. My therapist's screen saver has "BREATHE" in big letters on it. Someone else told me that she does deep breathing to cope with rush hour traffic.

Breathe on!
