I was wondering if anyone else out there has suffered from severe candida infection of the digestive system? I have had it for years, i only recently found out what was causing all my problems, however even when i do everything i am supposed to do to get rid of it i keep hitting a brick wall.

My stomach is so sensitve that any antifungals give me such a severe reaction from the die off that i have to stop taking them. Even the milder ones i can't take right now. I try taking a probitic but right now i can only tolerate about 1/8 of a teaspoon a day or my stomach kills me. I am getting very frustrated and i don't think i will ever get rid of it. I am starting to wonder if it is mostly in my head!!

Suzyque, I have had candida for a long time on and off but it manifests in vaginal thrush which is horrible. I got it recently but after taking acidipholus (wrong spelling I think) for a couple of weeks it has gone away. I dont eat wheat or yeast if I can help it and wouldnt take medication for it. I think its good to take garlic and vit c regularly too to maintain the immune system - I hope you feel better soon, love Sue xx

Some people also get good results from Coconut Oil. You can read more here:
www.tropicaltraditions.com

I have a cat with chronic digestive problems and the organic coconut oil works wonders for him.

There is also a long list of foods to avoid, too, such as sugar, yeast, etc., as sue g pointed out.

I think a tincture of calendula (marigolds) would help. have you consulted a homeopath for other suggestions ( I recently was told I had a mild fungal infection/intolerance to sugar and my homeopath gave me a book to read about candidaiasis(???spelling)) it was very informative I have forgotten the title or authors name but if you would like me to find it I will ask my homeopath for it

I had a friend who had thrush of the mouth that would not react to anything a doctor could do. I told him to take zinc. It was almost gone in a day. The human body is awesome when given the right ammunition!

Hi,
I was just retested after being diagnosed with systemic candida. I'll get back to you after I find out if my treatment worked or not. Take care and be sure that you in fact have candida properly diagnosed.

First thanks to everyone for your responses. I have been to a natropath who diagnosed me, she is supposed to be one of the best ones around according to a lot people i have spoken to. I just can't help thinking there is something else going on or something i am still doing wrong that is holding me back.

She put me on a very low carb diet and informed of the things i should avoid: sugar, yeast, mushrooms, vinegar etc. I started taking a probiotic a little at first and drank pau d'arco tea as well. I started getting better then i made the mistake of eating some cookies at xmas time and totally screwed myself up. It took me about 3 months for me stomach to settle down again, but now it has been 6 months since i ate those cookies and i still can't take anything antifungal or probiotic without a severe reaction. I have been back on the low carb diet this entire time. Could i have done that much damage with falling off the wagon that one time?My candida is systematic, i have multiple food allergies, asthma, i can't digest any raw food.

My asthma has improved since i went low carb but that's about it. Maybe i just need more time to get back on track? What are your thoughts? Anyone? This is getting to be ridiculous. And i can't afford to go back to the natropath.

I can't diagnose you, suzyque, but what you're describing does sound like systemic yeast. However, personally, I can't stand the idea of someone trying to heal herself eating all that meat. I'm not a fan of low-carb eating programs, as I don't believe they are healthy. Let's forget about ethical issues around meat. But when you look at what's in the meat, the immense amount of antibiotics (which could contribute to your problem), and the possible other carcinogens...well, I just can't see how anyone who has read up on it, could think it's healthy.

Carbs are not the enemy. It's the type of carbs one consumes. Processd foods are our enemies.

And what you're describing could also be food allergies, which are also very common. So many people develop allergies to wheat, and some other things which are quite common. I learned a little about them this weekend from a wonderful speaker. Her name is Kerrie Saunders, and she has a book that addresses the issue:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1590560388/qid=1120397514/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-2526128-1580746?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

You could probably research her on the web, as well as easily do some web research on food allergies.

Yep, thrush is an early sign of impaired immune defenses (for whatever reason it is overwhelmed and sluggish). Zinc is just what the body needs to regain the upper hand quickly.

To be properly diagnosed you need to have blood tests that show that you have Candida, have had it for an extended time, etc. Go to your regular doctor to havethe test done, especially if you have insurance.

I don't have any experience with candida, but someone told me that olive leaf extract is good for candida.
