When the alarm rings she slowly gets out of bed, turns on the shower and under the steady stream of warm water, she gently scrubs her body with Ammonia, Formaldehyde and Phenol.Next, she shampoos her tinted hair with DEA and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Rinsing the shampoo, she applies a good amount of mutagenic DEA & Propylene Glycol and lets it penetrate while she pops the top on the shaving cream and shaves her legs with A-Pinene. The shower finished, she towel dries and spreads on an even coat of Contaminant, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PHAs) and a dusting of an Asbestos Substance over her skin. She sprays the scented Aluminum under her arms, brushes her teeth with FD&C Blue#1 & Resorcinol, Saccharin, and Fluoride. Then she rinses and gargles with Ethanol and Phenol Alcohol. She combs setting gel through her hair then blows it dry and sprays it with polyvinylpyrrolidine (PVP). Sitting at her vanity, she carefully applies a thin film of Phenol Carbolic Acid, Dioxin and Propylene Glycol, over her face to reduce the fine lines. Today, she'll wear foundation and a little FD&C Red #3. And, better add some eye-Iron Oxide for today is a special meeting and a little Toxic and Mutagenic Ascorbyl Palmitate to line her lids and a stroke of Bacteria & Polyvinylpyrrolide (PVP) to her lashes. A dab of Benzo-A-Pyrene and Benzo-B-Fluroanthene to color her lips, a spritz of her favorite scent, Toluene and Benzaldehyde, and a little Carcinogenic Nitrosamine, NMPABAO on her face arms and legs to block the suns rays and she is set for the day. She looks radiant and healthy.. but her looks are killing her! If you are wondering if these poisons are being absorbed through her skin go cut open a clove of garlic and rub it on the bottom of your foot and see how long it takes to taste it in your mouth.. about 3 seconds! What have these product brands exposed her to in a matter of minutes? Read on to learn about what it is that we are really putting on and in our bodies every day. *Bar Soap has a pH of 9, which removes the protective acid mantle of the skin making it more alkaline and therefore, more vulnerable to penetration. It also contains ammonia, formaldehyde and phenol, known carcinogens and triclocarbans. *Shampoo contains cocamide DEA, which is associated with carcinogenic nitrosamines and sodium lauryl sulfate, a known mutagen. *Hair Tint contains quaternium-15, which releases carcinogenic formaldehyde and the carcinogen, phenylenediamine. *Conditioner contains DEA & Propylene Glycol both known mutagenic carcinogens *Shaving Cream contains a-pinene, a chemical that damages the immune system. *Body Lotion contains mineral oil, which, as a cosmetic grade petroleum product, includes the contaminant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PHAs) known as xenoestrogens that can mimic estrogen in the body. *Dusting Powder contains talc, a substance like asbestos. When talc was combined with a common air pollutant, benzo(a)pyrene, it induced tumors in 80% of the animals tested. Many scientists believe talc should be placed on the "known carcinogens" list. *Deodorant has aluminum, which is being tested in connection to Alzheimers. *Toothpaste contains saccharin and FD&C Blue#1, which are carcinogens. It also contains resorcinol, which can cause a blood disorder (methemoglobinemia), convulsions and death. Fluoride is also a known carcinogen. *Mouthwash contains 27% ethanol, which is suspected of causing esophageal cancer. It also contains phenol, which can cause fatal poisonings through skin absorption. *Hair Spray contains polyvinylpyrrolidine (PVP) and reports show that it may cause harm if the particles are inhaled. Modest intravenous doses fed to rats caused tumors. *Skin Moisturizer contains phenol carbolic acid, which can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and death as a result of respiratory failure. It also contains PEG-40, which contains dangerous levels of dioxin and propylene glycol, which studies show can negatively alter brain waves and cause liver and kidney disorders. *Blush contains FD&C Red #3, which caused human breast cells to grow, mimics the effect of natural estrogen at the molecular level and damages the genetic material of human breast cells. *Eye shadow contains iron oxide, which is a suspected carcinogen, teratogen or toxin. *Eyeliner, contains ascorbyl palmitate, and studies suggest that the palmitates are to be considered carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic. *Mascara may be contaminated with bacteria. It also contains polyvinylpyrrolide (PVP), a carcinogen. *Lipstick contains paraffin, which is a mixture of hydrocarbons and is derived from petroleum. It is known to be contaminated with the carcinogens, benzo-a-pyrene and benzo-b-fluroanthene. *Perfume contains toluene, a suspected potent carcinogen that was found in every fragrance tested, and benzaldehyde, which is a central nervous system depressant that may cause kidney damage. *Sunscreen contains padimate O and the preservative, BNPD, which together create the carcinogenic nitrosamine, NMPABAO. Bravo!! So true, so true...I avoid most of those, to the point where I am becoming an enviro-nazi, not allowing my daughters make-up to play grown-up, and make guests take off their shoes. I have been using Tom's aluminum free deodorant for twenty years, probably... There is one thing though where I draw the line and that is make-up. (Although these days there are quite a bit of natural skin care products available at Whole Foods, for example) Particularly lipstick I am really, really partial to. Frankly, I don't give a damn about paraffin. I wouldn't care if they still made lipstick with louse blood like they supposedly used to do it in the olden days. There is just something about putting color on my lips that makes me, considering my otherwise pure Virgo standards, totally cavalier about potential hazards. Go figure.... Great post, Sun Child. Thanks Logger, and good for you! I haven't worn make up in about 18 months...except on rare occasions. But even though I skimp on the cosmetics I still pluck, prune, moisturise, and tone! I dont see anything wrong with trying to look spunky! And I haven't used aluminium deodorant in years, and I don't smell, others say it's too weak, but the fact is, it wont stop you from sweating, it will just hinder the growth of bacteria. You can still sweat and not smell. IP: Logged |

Exactly. People have become alienated from their own bodies. I hate when someone surrounds himself with so much smells from cologns, soaps, anti-perspirants, that I can't even smell his skin anymore. For heaven's sake!! Besides, I am really sensitive to all these olfactory assaults. Just waking through the cleaning isle at the supermarket nauseates me. (Btw. how come this stuff stinks right through the plastic, hmm?? Now imagine having stuff like that sitting under your kitchen sink, and what it does to your indoor air...)I have started to make my own soaps and moisturizers. It's fun, and they feel and smell so soothing. IP: Logged |

Thanks Sunchild.Kiss My Face makes a great facial moisturizer sans all those nasty ingredients. I just can't give up make-up; it's too much a part of me, and I like that part! I buy as much cruelty-free make-up as I can, but it's hard to come by and can be expensive. I continue to search out the best brands I can. IP: Logged |

You're welcome Trillian & Ribbons of color!!! Yes I say use sparingly, and by natural things if the alternative is available. Here we have the body shop..all natural, nonanimal tested, and reasoably priced. But at the moment I am getting home made soaps, balm, and lotion from a wiccan friend who makes them in another state. She makes very nice products. I just bought some pure green tea oil/aloe vera/ macadamia oil, and avocado oil. Its so yummy for the face! IP: Logged |

dear Sunchild ~yes, thanks for this reminder.... you know, i came across an excellent raw vegan cookbook the other day, written by a couple who both are trained french gourmet chefs who've opened a very successful raw food restaurant in manhattan. they're a beautiful couple too, kind of the way i imagine you and your partner. http://www.purefoodandwine.com/ anyway, the book has a section advocating natural cosmetics that sounds remarkably like your exposition above. you might like it....it's on my list of books to acquire. it has many 5 star, glowing comments on amazon, worth a glance. even their 2 cats are raw vegans. this is the book ~ they also have a website with raw and organic products.....food, supplements and body care... http://www.oneluckyduck.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=2 the bodycare line ~ you can send them any question about raw living as well ~ i love this source also for vegan body care, handmade with pure, organic essential oils and herbs...and this lady has a wonderful energy about her, i love her products and their energy ~ http://www.earthchylde.com/
well, that's a lot of info... but you got me thinkin... love to you, salome ------------------ The river runs swift with a song, breaking through all barriers. But the mountain stays and remembers, and follows her with his love. Rabindranath Tagore

Great Article. Girls need not get worried. The best perfume on a girl is the natural skin scent after a thorough water wash. Body Odour from sweat can surely controlled by herbal methods and certainly by repelling negative thoughts from the aura.Pray tell me, why does a baby smell so sweet? What cream, lotion or deodorant does it use?

Pixelpixie, a) For your beauty, using products for enhancement is unnecessary b) Selling them is fine, if some dumbos want to poision themselves, let them pay you for it than someone else. c) If you can make safe products yourself and start your own herbal line, your margins will be much more. Even if you dont have buyers, you will be safe yourself!IP: Logged |

IQhunk.. where'd you learn to talk to a Leo riser? Yes, I have considered doing such a thing.. possibly later in life. My mother has a line, she is an herbalist. Healing balms though.. less beauty enhancement. I open products, sniff them, feel them, if they appeal to my senses, I will slather myself in them. Luckily, lines like 'Burt's Bees' appeal to me. Can you say coconut foot cream, milk and honey lotion???? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm My friends know if they want to try a new product, I most likely have it. And will share. Sometimes I even give away things I like, justifying it because I already have three of a similar product. Pretty obsessive actually.. but my husband doesn't complain, he knows I will always smell/feel/look good. Tres important. Oh, but it could kill me.. so, not so good.

Gosh! I did know quite a lot of this as my Mums an extreamly healthy person who cant stand puting toxic stuff on her skin.. I took quite a while after being told about it to stop using my fave Herbal Essesences (sp?!!) shampoo + conditioner!!! But when I eventually stopped using the highly perfumed junk I actually physically felt better coming out of the shower!!! Using Neways products at the mo which are FAB- try http://neways.com/Product/ if you're interested. Being very sensitive to smells I love using this natural rose oil as a subtle perfume, smells lovely! (And only lightly spritz the other stuff on my clothes!! It works and means my skin isn't absorbing it!!) Facial skin care and makeup is a hard one to beat though. And after trying different deodrants the only one that really works is a Dove one (Ive got sensitive/prone to rashes skin too) but it has aluminium in it... any suggestions on healthy but efficient deodrants? In the end I think you can help combat the effects of cosmetics ect by drinking a LOT of water to keep flushing out toxins, giving you're body occasional breaks from makeup when you dont need it, same with perfume. Also exercising and sweating it out helps! IP: Logged |

<<Can you say coconut foot cream, milk and honey lotion???? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm >> Interestingly, Cleopatra was said to have bathed only in milk.Coconut and Honey are known beauty products in South India for millenia. The people of South ndian state Kerala are obsessed with cocounut oil and coconut creams and they have the best skin complexion in India. Food for thought PS. It is easy to talk to a Leo Riser or Leo. Just treat em as Royalty IP: Logged |

I used Lush products when I lived in the UK… They are gorgeous… You’d smell their shops from decens of meters away… Natural esential oils and other ingredients such as coccoa butter, vegetable oils…We have one shop in Madrid, I must start using their products again… Kryszal Deodorants are really good (now that you ask about alternatives to deodorants with alluminium) but I have tons of other favourites in their cosmetics range… I was a fanatic of their products… They have no make-up, though… Have a look in www.lush.com… There are shops all over the world… You can even order on-line…
