It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that zing........

Doo wop, doo wop, doo wop!

What kind of spices/flavorings do you guys use in vegetarian cooking?

I need a little more flavoring in my cooking to add some *zing*!

Tonight I made;

Quinoa

Sauted green beans, zuchini, onions, tofu and almonds. Sauted the tofu in olive oil with veggie broth and lots of garlic. Squeezed fresh lemon juice over. Crushed black pepper. Threw in everything else and sauted. Served over/next to the Quinoa.

I just felt it needed a little more zing!

Please don't reccommend soy sauce 'cos I can't have that. You'll probably reccommend ginger but I always forget to buy it.

Try some Braggs/Nama Shoyu...have you tried it?
Delicous. (People who can't tolerate Soy sauce (allergies or whatever) can have Nama Shoyu)

Also try some Lime zest, or get into some fresh herbs, grow them yourself if you can. Basil, Chives, Rosemary ~ and you get the idea. Fresh herbs are better than dried. Oh and try a Thai style curry with Basil, lime and ginger~ works well!

I'd say go to the herb section of your Grocer and just pick up something new.

Since i've eliminated table salt i use a lot of , savory, vegetable based soup powder, paprika, cumin, old bay, sage, mustard powder. Helps add a lot of flavor.

We do have a huge rosemary plant in the garden that keeps growing, and growing, and growing.

Sometimes I use curry but it just doesn't turn out too great.

Funny, the tofu/green beans dish I made was much more flavourful the second night

Amy ~ we do grill in the spring/summer/fall! Mmmm yummy. Veggies work great but you have to be careful not to burn them!

Lime and ginger sound good - I need to write them down so I don't forget!

Thanks all!

Curry is a hit and miss with my cooking too.

Leftovers are almost always good

thirteen, not to sound like your mother, but since you've eliminated table salt, make sure you're including iodine in your diet...very necessary.

If you can stand it - chilli peppers! It will add Zing, Pow, AND Wham! By the way, careful with the Rosemary - too much of it can actually be somewhat poisonous. Imagine my shock when I found that out.
