I have had two removed.
The relief afterwards was absolutely wonderful!
Everyone's experience is different but the stitches are not that bad. Follow the dentist's orders to the letter!
And ask if you should have pre meds if you have ever had Rheumatic Fever or if you have any other health issues.
Tell him how terrified you are! Most good dentists will do eveything they can to alleviate your fear.
Good luck!

I have had two removed ... and my 33rd... altogether

It was not as bad as I had imagined, so dont worry (there were no cuttings or stitches though)

I have had some pretty bad dental extractions.. the roots of my teeth grow twisty, it seems, into my bone.... they wanna stay in the bone.....even if they don't want to stay in my mouth for use.
I always have anxiety before I go in, but it must be done, and you feel so much better afterwards.. I mean, after, after.. not immediately after.
You can do it.
Think of it as an excuse to go on a liquid diet and eat jello and pudding and soup. be pampered...
it might go very well.

Can I ask a question? How old are you and what would be the average age of wisdom teeth?
Most people i talk to got them in at around nineteen/late teens/early twenties....
Usually they grow in and crowd the other teeth...
I feel like I am getting mine NOW.. which would make sense, as I haven't had them before..
Which is good, as I have room for them... I had to have my back molars extracted.
I prctice very good oral hygeine, but my teeth like to break... they are weak.. and no dentist understands why, possibly genetic factors, but my mom and dad both have strong teeth, are in their fifties and possess all of them still.. so I am much puzzled.
Blech.

I had all four of them extracted in one sitting, because I just wanted to get it done and overwith, and to tell you the truth I think you should too. If you're really that scared of it, I wouldn't suggest going through it twice.

The injection is probably the only thing that will hurt during the surgery. Once it happens, the doctor will probably start talking to you and the next thing you know, you wake up with your mouth stuffed with cotton. But you won't feel any pain, not on the first day. After that day your teeth will ache but they subscribe painkillers so it's not that bad. The stitches they use are made of some kind of plastic, and they fall out as your teeth heal. It takes a couple week to heal.

But trust me, would you rather leave your wisdom teeth in? I mean, if you need to have them removed then they're growing in a way that can seriously mess up your teeth. I would imagine that pain being even worse.

I had all 4 removed. I don't know how it is at that dentist but the oral sugeon I would go to let's you choose 3 different anastesias.

I'd pick to get knowcked out with an injection on my arm.

He took them all out to get it over with because they didn't have room to grow. This was last year at 22 years of age.

I had all 4 out at once; they were impacted, so I was unconcious for it all. If yours aren't impacted than get gas before the injection. You won't care as much. Also get soft-gel ice packs. They are wonderful! You can mold them around both sides of your cheeks to help with healing, and Ice cream to make the inside really cold. I lived on shakes the first 2 days. Good luck. Sending L,L&P (love, light & prayers).

I had all 4 of mine out about 10 years ago and was under general anesthesia. Woke up with my mouth full of cotton and given painkillers. I kind of felt a dull ache mostly for the first week or so and the pockets that remain have to be flushed daily with a syringe to clear out food and keep them clean while they close. That part was a pain. The surgeon actually could get at them better and flushed them out really well during my weekly visits post-op. No stitches though.

You'll be okay - did the surgeon explain to you exactly what needs to be done?

thanks everyone for ur replies.... they really really helped me..
i got 2 upper wisdom tooth extracted, 1st one a week ago and the 2nd one today.. it was really nothing.... i was so scared but it was painless.
the dentist gave me 5 injections (on my request to totally numb the area) even the injections were painless! i cant believe it!.. i am so happy.. but i still need the 2 lower ones to be extracted... they need 30 minutes surgery each... i hope it goes well..
thanks again.
(i have cotton stuffed in my mouth for 24 hrs.. the only worst part of it all)

I had all fou out at once when I was 18. It really wasn't bad - the injection at all and I'm creeped aout by that stuff. My only advise to you is to make sure you get lots of fluids and eat I didn't and recovery lasted longer...

It may be too late, but I had all four in one go. Two were impacted two were normal. I don't remember what I was given but I was awake through the whole thing and didn't feel a thing, I remember hearing them break the impacted teeth, but again, didn't feel anything. I had vicodin after and went off to sleep without putting ice on my face like I was told. I swelled up so bad it blocked both my (excuse the spelling here) eustation tubes and I got double ear infections with a wonderful case of vertigo, so I'd suggest to keep the ice on if they tell you to! But nothing hurt and the stiches were a breeze. Hope the others go well or went well if you are done.
