Take folic acid (or a good B complex with folic acid).------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

I just dropped my cholesterol 27 points in 4 months by doing the following: NO SUGAR (or substitutes other than stevia) NO WHEAT (or processed baked goods) NO DEEP-FRIED FOODS (or bacon, etc.) LOTS of whole fruits and vegetables! LOTS of Indian food! (very beneficial spices) LOTS of almonds! (proven to lower cholesterol) I ate butter, eggs, cream, etc. at times, just no junk. I ate as much as I wanted until I was full. And that did it. The nurse said it was the fastest she had ever seen cholesterol drop. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Solstice is right on the mark. I’ve pretty much done the same and dropped my cholesterol level to the place I want it to be. Right now it's 150 and it has remained so for a couple reasons:1) Every morning I include Quaker oats in my breakfast somehow – either as a cereal with a sprinkling of wheat germ, raisins, almonds, pieces of dried apricot and the milk of your choice (Preferably non fat if you drink cow’s milk– I switch between soya milk and almond milk) or prepared as a porridge. Mid morning I always try to have a fruit salad featuring pineapple, papaya or watermelon. Papaya is wicked for reducing one's cholesterol. 2) I eat six small meals a day, stay away from over processed foods and try to eat as much "fresh" food as possible. So rather than buy canned food or any kind of food loaded with preservatives I opt instead to make the effort and prepare my meals with fresh ingredients (organically grown) – and it tastes much better this way. If you have a craving for that bit of sweetness substitute sugar for honey as often as you can. I also follow the Glycemic Index which guides you in separating good carbs and bad carbs from your diet. 3) Drink lots of water but not too much. 8 to 10 glasses per day should suffice depending on how active you are.. 4) Exercise! Anything that will give you a good workout will be fine: Walking, gardening, taking up a sport,, all these are excellent options. Hope this helps.
