Since my mother put me into surgery to get my tonsils cut out I've felt like I've been missing a limb ever since, it feels strange and wierd getting things cut out of your body, and not only was it my tonsils, but my adenoids too.. She didn't know better back then so I forgive her. Anyway this has nothing to do with my question. My question is about your voice.

If you have had your tonsils out, how do you rate your singing voice?
I've surveyed a lot of people who've had their tonsils removed and all of them so far think they can't sing, and well, it's true, they can't. Either can I.

My mum told me its because I don't have tonsils, and tonsils are needed (well they help) to give a nice singing voice.

I don't think its absolute I'm just wondering how much tonsils really affect the voice. I'm sure it does to a certain extent.
I'm just looking for someone who can tell me they CAN sing, and they don't have tonsils, so I know there may be still hope for me!

Hey SunChild!

I had my tonsils, adenoids and uvula (the punching bag) taken out about 8 years ago, at the age of 24.

I was a singer in school, sang in competitions, etc... and I always had sinus infections or a runny nose.

I got everything removed because everything was enlarged to the point of possibly exploding... seriously, it was bad.

So, when I got everything removed, I was okay the first day...then the next day I woke up without a voice! I couldn't talk for 10 days...and for 6 months afterward, I would lose my voice either after yelling at a sporting event or just randomly.

Now, I sing even BETTER and clearer than I did in high school. For me, tonsils were in the way...they hindered my voice. Now I have a hall in the back of my mouth! I know that my wonderful ENT doc used the thinest tube down my throat, and I know she still scratched my vocal chords at that time, causing my lack of voice... but I healed.

You'll be just fine if you exercise your vocal chords. With my uvula gone, I thought I'd never be able to roll my "r"s again... but I still can. It's all in working it the right way.

I had mine reomved at the age of 14, because they were too large. I used to have difficult breathign at night, and snored loudly. After teh operation, I never snored again. However, my voice did change drasticaly. I can't remember if I had a singing voice back then, but I certainly do not have one know.

Tonsils don't affect singing. But you can always will yourself to grow them back. They sometimes will grow back on their own.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll

It's funny you mentioned that Randall, because I was meditating on that last night... thinking them back!

So I will let you know when they have grown back.
