where to start? There are SO many treasures from mother earth that I cannot even begin.

I just finished eating a beautiful salad with: Romaine lettuce, Spinach, watercress, dandelion, parsley, cucumber, red pepper, grape tomatoes, onion, raisins, olive oil, sea salt, dried herbs, and key lime juice!

YUM!

I'm rarely organised to make a salad. Healthy eating can be very hard work, so I like something I can just eat. Maybe dip in somrthing.

Raw Potatoes? Can you really eat that?
I had raw sweet potato once, I grated it, soaked it over night, and blended it with brazil nuts and herbs into a pate.

Your salad sounds divine Crystelle. Yum, I love key limes.

Raw potatoes seem hard and watery and I was told by my mother that you have to cook them which is probably bullocks. lol

When I was little, I just loved raw potatos, being Irish, we had potatos every night at supper, my Grandmother always told me, if you eat potatos raw you will get wormes, now I don't know if that is true, but it never stopped me, and I never got wormes, and I still eat potatos raw, I just love them.

You should avoid the green sprouts I think, esp if you are preg.
A cool thing: you can buy growing salad in pots in supermarkets here. I like to buy a pot and just graze on it like an animal. It's not totally natural. They must use pesticide to get those little pots looking so perfect.

Maklhouf,

Is it? I'm curious- have you consumed raw cow's milk (unless you were talking about raw goat's milk, or both, or some other animal's milk)? Have you been consistently drinking raw milk? How do you find your consumption of raw milk work on your own body? How does your body respond to raw milk, I mean? I'm interested, because some say pasteurization kills bacteria but kills other vital nutrients as well. I guess if you've been drinking raw milk, then it's not that "dangerous"?

By the way, I like sashimi (raw fish; e.g. raw salmon), raw salad vegetables etc. I haven't tried raw potatoes.

It's only because I've adopted Linda's suggested method of vegetarianization, hence my consumption of poultry and fish. Actually, I don't eat that much fish, since they're expensive and the less polluted ones are hard to find these days.

I grew up an a farm... raw milk.

Directly from cow to bulk tank (refrigeration) to the table.

I had strep throat/ear infections constantly until I was about 11 years old.

I am pretty healthy, but I am now lactose intolerant.

My brothers are 6 ft 5 and 6 ft 7, respectively. I am 5 ft 9 inches tall. My dentist told me I have the most solid jawbone he has ever seen

Potatoes are pretty nasty. The glycoalkaloids they contain aren't healthy for the brain and nervous system. Research has shown that potatoes can have an adverse effect on the brain's cognitive functioning as the result, and they may also complicate mood disorders. Cooked potatos have fewer glycoalkaloids than raw ones, but there's still some there.

I like to eat raw fish, seafood and beef, but of course only in cases where contamination is less likely. I eat most of my veggies and fruit raw.

I do wish the farmer put more info on his milk carton. I feel rude asking him: Are your cows clean? But farms are inspected pretty rigorously. Tuberculosis is back on the streets in compromised populations. I know a person who caught it from drinking raw milk, but she has recovered and is alive fifty years later.

Same as the other thread here at HAH, some of the latest posts are missing. I might not even have viewed the most recent posts, so I don't know what best I should say. I had been thinking about sending another reply here.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I had learned about the fact that raw beef was served at some restaurants only recently. At first I was a bit startled, but it wasn't that I didn't like the idea, just surprised, that's all. I find it interesting- I've never tried raw beef before, so it doesn't feel like raw fish, which I can eat with no problem (albeit only occasionally, because it's expensive!). I'm curious about how raw beef would taste. However, I've embarked on my 5-year journey to quasi-vegetarianism or lacto ovo honey vegetarianism, so regretfully, I will refrain from tasting raw beef or other raw red meats. I'm just curious, though. I don't feel tempted or have the urge or the crave at all. Just curious.

I had enjoyed quite a lot of raw spinach salad a while back- yeah, I had heard of the E coli scare of spinach months ago last year, but spinach tasted jolly good with either "strawberry red wine vinegar" or some kind of "oil vinegar" etc different salad dressings, and it was yummy! I really cherish those experiences, because I think I've been inspired by those, and I can try making my own raw spinach salad next time!

P.S. Oh, as for raw cow's milk- perhaps I can do some online or offline research on that, if time allows and if I'm really keen. That is definitely worth furhter investigating.

I've been thinking it would be awesome if I could make my sandwiches with raw fish (sashimi)- that would be kind of like sushi-turned-into-sandwich. I'd love to try that, sounds like fun! But I can't afford raw fish, though...they cost lots of $$$

GN, is it the whole potato that's nasty? Surely it's just starch? I cut off the green bits, which I know to be harmful. I think dipping in salt or vinegar would take care of the rest

I understand that it is an old wives tale, that the roots or green parts of potatoes are bad. I love raw potatoes. I ues to eat them all them time as a kid.

Excellent site, Bluemoon.
Another food I like but am dubious about, is Parma Ham. Pig meat is bad for you even when cooked, but Parma is just sliced thin and dried in the wind.

does nobody here eat raw broccoli? i love to have it with hummus

as for possible harmful effects of certain foods, i follow this website blindly, as it seems to be very well researched to me.

Potatoes Belong to the Nightshade Family
Potatoes are one of the vegetables in the nightshade (Solanaceae) family, which includes eggplant, tomatoes and bell peppers. Anecdotal case histories link improvement in arthritis symptoms with removal of these foods;however, no case-controlled scientific studies confirm these observations. For more on nightshades, please see our article "What are nightshades and in which foods are they found?" http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=62
