I had a really bad headache last night, across my forehead and on the top of my head. I didn't know what was causing it, but my bf looked at me and said "it's your crystals". I thought, wth! Crystals have never given me a headache before... but there was one other time when my bf accurately knew what was wrong with me when I had a stomach pain. So I thought about it, and I did start to get a headache when I was playing with my clear quartz around my third eye earlier that day (as I sometimes do, usually with no resulting headache). And when I was in the crystal shop today, I felt myself getting a slight headache. What could be causing this? I usually have crystals around me, in my pocket or in my bag without ever getting a headache. In fact I once fixed a headache using my amethyst!

Any ideas?

I must admit that I have been very sensitive to crystal energy lately. Dreaming about them and so on.

If you never before have experienced headaches of crystals, then it sounds weird that you would now.
Only thing I think of is that quartz shouldnt be worn for more than 2 hours at a time, but I doubt it would cause pain in your physical body when worn for several hours...
Perhaps its pms? stress? the weather? any food? scents or candles?

love, Anita

My first thought when I read this was that you need to open up to something. I you in some sort of internal conflict?

Good thoughts, you two!

Yes Sue, I am having a few little inner conflicts at the moment so maybe it is that! I can think of three situations where I'm pulled in two directions ("do I do THIS or do I do THAT?"). My horoscope for the other day said I would experience this so I'm just trying to go with what seems right and let the feeling pass. I hadn't thought these things were too major but maybe they've affected me more than I thought. Interesting.

Also, yes Anita I've had my period the last couple of days! But I don't usually get headaches because of it.

Weirdly enough, I lost my moonstone on the 28th day of my cycle (ie when my period arrived). So I only had that stone for one menstrual cycle... I'm kind of upset because that was the crystal I dreamed about the other night and it held special significance, but now it is gone. But although I have a headache, I've a very clear visualisation of that stone - when I think of it, I see it so clearly and automatically feel it's shape and surface. I'm also having a very clear image of the rose quartz I gave to my sister. Crystals are definitely having some kind of effect on me at the moment.

Healing with crystals
The most important thing to state when discussing the healing properties of crystals is that they should not be used to substitute any prescribed medical treatment. They must also not be used in any formal diagnosis or to prescribe any course of action not approved by a person’s professional medical practitioner.

Established scientific research has yet to prove any causal effects of crystals on any medical condition.

Established scientific research has yet to prove any causal effects of crystals on any medical condition.

It is important to make these points initially as it would be wrong to attempt to give false hope to people who may find themselves in desperate situations.

All the writings on crystals can best be described as ‘lore’ and should be read and considered as such.

Science has established, though, that crystals vibrate at constant frequencies. Quartz, for example, is used in watches because of this very fact. A crystal is also used in some gas lighters as it is able to produce a spark when a force is applied to it. This is known as the piezo-electric effect where an electric field is produced when a crystal is squeezed or stretched. This effect was discovered in 1927 by an engineer called Warren Marrison. He realised that by applying a voltage to certain crystals they would vibrate at a constent rate of anything between 33,000 to over 4 million times per second. So the fact that crystals do have energetic properties is well known, but the question is whether this energy is able to have any physical, mental or spiritual effect on living things.

People who use crystals regularly certainly believe they do. There is also evidence that crystals have been used for thousands of years. Whether this is some kind of placebo effect is hard to establish, but even the medical profession today recognise that the mind can have an important influence on general wellbeing.

People who use crystals regularly certainly believe they do. There is also evidence that crystals have been used for thousands of years. Whether this is some kind of placebo effect is hard to establish, but even the medical profession today recognise that the mind can have an important influence on general wellbeing. All living things have a life force. Whether or not one believes in a soul, this force can still be experienced in terms of heat and electrical energy for example. Medical science use various instruments to measure and monitor these energies. From the simple thermometer to the very high-tech equipment used to monitor heart rate or brain activity.

These energies emit a field around the body. Body heat, for example, can be detected from some distance. Many people believe this can be seen as an aura – a colourful area of energy around living things that can give an indication of wellbeing. The aura is believed to have different layers moving outwards from the body. The table below indicates these layers and the meaning attached to it.

From innermost layer:

1 Etheric Reflects the general state of the body
2 Astral Emotions and feelings
3 Mental Thoughts
4 Higher
Mental Intuition
5 Spiritual Essence of self

Ancient Indian cultures believed in Chakras. These are energy centres found in the Etheric layer of the aura. Although there are many points they believed in seven main centres. These correspond to seven points along the mid-line of the body.

1 Base Base of spine Jasper / Hematite
2 Sacral Below naval Carnelian
3 Solar plexus Just below ribcage Citrine
4 Heart Centre of chest Aventurine / Malachite / Rose Quartz
5 Throat Base of neck Turquoise / Aquamarine / Sodalite
6 Third Eye Centre of brow Sodalite / Amethyst
7 Crown Top of head Amethyst / Quartz

They believed a chakra was a vortex of energy spinning at its own rate. The fastest being the crown and the slowest the base. Although each chakra was seen to influence different parts of the body or mind, they were believed to be inter-related so that if one chakra was not correct that could have a negative influence on the others. Their aim was to have all seven chakras in perfect balance.

Where crystals have their own individual vibrational quality it is believed that they are able to interact and influence the different layers of the aura and the chakra energy centres. It is believed that negative or stagnant energy can accumulate in the aura which can have an adverse effect on the person. Releasing or freeing this negative energy can help to create and maintain a state of physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Thanks for posting that info, bluemoon!

My moonstone came back to me this afternoon, btw. I went to the crystal shop this afternoon to get a new moonstone but I couldn't relate to any of them... how lucky that my original one came back later today!

While I was there I was very interested in a large rose quartz. But after a while it seemed to weigh heavy on me... it seemed to be too strong, especially in my chest/heart area. So I got a tiny little peridot instead and went home. I felt kind of depressed afterwards. I liked that particular rose quartz, but I didn't like the effect it had on me... it was just too much. :-/ I know this indicates I should probably be working with rose quartz, but should I go use a small one instead and stay away from the large one?

I am only learning about the powers of crystals. I Keep a small rose quartz in my pocket next to my boo boo belly. My friend gave it to me for Christmas. I have several quartz that my cousin dug up on his land in Arkansas. They make me feel VERY tingly!!!

Gem, I think you are carrying a large burdan. (It is easy to see in your post here) We are only given what we can handle. Follow your own heart and instincts.

BTW, I love peridote!!! I have a tutle charm with a small piece in its shell.

Crystals have a higher vibrational frequency than humans. (especialy quartz) Quartz stimulates the psychic centers, probably why you had the visuals of the moonstone...
Not knowing how to use or direct that energy is the problem. If you were a healer or properly trained psychic, you would need to keep replacing this energy because you have given some away to the people you heal.

So sometimes crystals can give us a quick pick me up, or heal a headache. However too much of this electrical energy can cause sickness or even death!

Perhaps when your chakras are out of balance, you can handle and need the vibrational frequency of a crystal. But if you are already "balanced" the crystals produce an energy "overload." The first thing Docs do when your heart stops beating is jive you a jolt of electricity. Notice how everyone else is told to back off.
Give that same electric shock to someone who doesn't need it and you fry them. (Electric chair)
When I was overstimulated by smaller amounts of this electrical energy, the first thing that happened was I get a burning sensation around the psychic centers in my brain, then I got a massive headache I had to have a healer get rid of the extra energy.

Having a lot of crystals near your bedstand can also cause headaches as well.

I was at a gem show and touched a huge quartz crystal that had been sitting in the sun for days. (totally energized by the sun)
When I touched the crystal I got a good jolt, my heartbeat was irregular for a few seconds.
So, I'm not saying don't use them or wear them, just be careful how large and how long.

Oh, thanks for the info! That's very helpful.

Weirdly, with my moonstone - I could swear it wasn't in my pocket, I searched my pockets but it really didn't seem to be there. Then later in the day something told me the moonstone was back, and to look down - so I looked down at my pocket and could see a little bump, reached inside it was the moonstone! It would be impossible for it to literally disappear and then re-appear in my pocket, but that's how it seemed. lol.

OF COURSE I attended the show!!! I live in AZ. about a 2 hr drive from Tucson. I make jewelry and hubby and I go there every year for beads and supplies. We have been going for 3 years and we still haven't visited all the areas of exhibts. It's HUGE and spread throughout the whole city! Did you experience anything standing near that crystal?

WOW! Now that's what I call a crystal! I'd be interested to hear if you or your daughter felt anything special from it.

I went to the crystal shop today with rose quartz in mind again... I wanted to get one for someone special... but I was sidetracked when the guy pointed out to me some new crystals that had arrived. He took one out of the display case for me and I played with it on my third eye... and let me just say, WOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!! My third eye was pulled very strongly, my face got warm, I felt like my head was experiencing something really AMAZING! The guy came over and looked at me and he said my eyes were sparkling... I really did feel alive! I looked up the crystal in one of the books there and it's one that is supposed to be connected with angels. It connects the heart chakra with the third eye, crown and higher crown... I'm still kind of spaced out. Ironically I now can't remember the name of the crystal, I think it might start with 'd' and it's clear/white with a tinge of very pale pink... can anyone help me remember? It's now sitting in the relationship corner of my room. I love it... it's the most amazing crystal I've ever experienced.

The only thing is, do you think I was overstimulated by it? I must admit I'm a bit worried by what you said that too much crystal energy can cause death! Maybe I should just leave it in the corner to do its thing and not touch it.

I found it on the internet - it's called danburite.
http://www.rainbowcrystal.com/crystal/gems/danburite.html

http://accessnewage.com/articles/stones/stones3.htm

quote:
Danburite's healing properties work well with the Vision and Heart Chakras. (for those of you not familiar with the Vision Chakras, they are located behind the eyes. The eyes can be used in healing as well as for visualization and manifesting our needs. The Vision Chakras are considered to be "minor centers" but are important for psychic healers.)

Do you think this could be why my eyes were sparkling?

One site said that's its best used by an experienced practitioner... so I guess I will just leave it in the corner to do its thing??? Any advice from you more experienced crystal people?

Ok, it's now hours later and I'm still feeling a bit "high" from the crystal... should I be worried about this?? I had no idea it would have this effect! Either way I'm certain my heart chakra opened right up... I've been so full of love!

Great you found a crystal that you feel works.
Wait to see if the sensation wears off in another day.
No the small crystal will not harm you as far as being in the home, however you need to be aware of a crystals power and not get overstimulated.
Do you know how to ground yourself? If the sensation continues much longer you need to ground yourself. As well as before you use the stone and after you use it. There is so much info on the web on grounding. I prefer the emergancy grounding when I'm over stimulated and that is literally lie on the ground and say to yourself all extra energy I do not need be pulled from me into the ground, to nurish mother earth. Imagine the extra energy going into the ground. Give it ten minutes. No more than the extra will be absorbed into the ground.

It is a very powerful stone with the description you gave above.
I have a piece that has been sitting around so I put it to my third eye chakra to see if I experienced the same sensation myself. I did. This stone is not recommended to place on the third eye, because of overstimulation. It is recommended to place on your heart chakra or above your head.
You can also hold it in your hands as you meditate.

A little note on crystals. Before looking for a crystal or stone, know what you intend on using it for. Take it home, wash it with a little warm water and let stand in the sun for a day. This cleanses the crystal of any negetive energies it may have picked during it's lifetime.
Next, you need to empower the stone with the intentions you plan to use it for. It's nice to do this at night with a candle lit. Only use the stone for the intentions you empower it for.
If you want to use it for more than one purpose, program that in as well. But before you work with the crystal, say out loud before you use it, what your intentions for the crystal are for that session.

You can also smudge the stone with sage to remove negeting energies.

I suggest you pick up a good crystal book or two. One I recommend is The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall. The other is Crystal, Gem and Metal magic by Scott Cunningham. They explain all the hows and whats of crystal devination. They also are very descriptive in the metaphysical uses of stones. Cleanse your crystals about once a month.

Do not use the crystal to make a gem elixer until you have enough knowledge about the crystal!!! Some are toxic, they can KILL!

NEVER make a gem elixer if the crystal stil has part of the rock it came from attached!

So far the only gems I will use for an elixar are tumbled amythest, quartz, and herkimer diamond. TUMBLED!

Good luck

Thanks for the info, Philbird! In fact I realised yesterday that I need to learn more about grounding myself... so I'm looking into that. In fact I need to strengthen my base chakra overall. I'm wary of making gem elixirs, so I probably won't go that way.How interesting that you experienced the same thing with your crystal! I still haven't cleansed or programmed this one yet, as I want to be more rooted to earth before I use it. I came back down that night or the next morning, but then I noticed when I was at the theosophical library yesterday afternoon I started to get light-headed. That's when I realised I need to strengthen my base chakra... do the groundwork for myself. Also a guy is lending me a book on crystals tonight, so I'm looking forward to that!

Oooo I love this thread! I didn't see it before. I must admit, I'm kind of new to crystals for healing, and should work on grounding, but I also simply collect them as I also really love geology.

Today though I was having an unbelievably bad day, and just felt like getting some new ones. I went to a store in a mall here that has crystals and wicca items, but I couldn't get a feeling from ANYTHING!!! I never can, I don't know what's with the crystals in that store, and I get creepy vibes from the people working there. So I left and went to this more hidden shop that I love, and ran my hand over those crystals and got quite a few different vibes. I needed something calming and found this pretty blue lace agate! I had to go through the entire bin but the one I got warmed my hand right up and was tingly.

Then I spotted something out the corner of my eye and there was a pretty dark purple and white agate and I just had to get it.

Weird how I wasn't even paying to what the stones actually were, I was looking for a calming effect, and wound up with 2 agates!

Yep, I think you will find (as I do), that you will drawn to just the right crystal at just the right time. It always amazes me when I'm drawn to a crystal, and then I find out that it was exactly what I needed.

Agate comes in all colors and is great for chakra work!
When you purchase your gems and crystals ask the shopkeeper if they are color enhanced. (dyed or heat treated) Hopefully, they will be honest. Agates are inexpensive and they aren't usually color enhanced.
I started out collecting raw gems and minerals and learned a lot from the store owner. he was a Dr. of gemology. Then I got into the metaphysical properties, more of an incentive to do some research. I even do some of the rockhounding myself. Since there are a lot of closed copper mines down here, you can go there and find some azurite, turquise and malichite. Also there are a lot of quartz deposits. I love AZ.!

I'm really hoping the shop I visit is honest, they have such an amazing amount of different gemstones/crystals to work with! And they are so inexpensive, 2 agates cost me $2. I'm assuming mine aren't color enhanced, and after researching I think my purplish one is actually brown agate. I actually collect minerals and rocks just due to my interest in geology as well, my collection began in Maine, and it's so weird to see how different the rocks are only a few states away, in upstate NY. I can't wait till the snow melts so I can look again!

Hi there...

Try using blue lace and rose quartz. Helped me and my mum heaps with migraine headaches. Actually this is what made me trust crystals because it was the first time that it physically helped.

Love, Ausra

BUMP!

I had an amethyst get rid of my headache. It has only worked for me once though.

Also I'm pretty sure that Rubies are not known to ease menstrual cramps, but they do for me for some reason.
