Hi all. I woke up about 30 mins ago with a really acute pain in my lower right abdomen, ie, where my appendix is. It really, really scared me. I'm 18, and I live with my aunt and uncle, but they're in Spain right now, and I'm pretty much home alone, except for some cousins nearby that I'm very close to too, but they're leaving for Spain tomorrow. So this pain really startled me because not only am I really afraid of needles, surgery, etc, but if I did have to have my appendix removed, I'll only have a couple of people to help me out.

It doesn't hurt anymore though, and I'm not sure what that means. None of the websites that I checked on this condition told me whether the pain would come and go. It only lasted about five minutes, but it was just this shooting pain that I'd never felt before, so I assumed the worst. I couldn't get out of bed for a few minutes.

I'm sure in a few hours from now I'll laugh over my panic, but right now I'm just really scared and kind of crying. I called my aunt in Spain, and she told me to just call the emergancy room if I needed to, and that my cousins going to Spain tomorrow would help me.

Do you have any other symptoms? i.e., loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, elevated temperature? Not necessarily all of these, but you won't feel quite right at all.

Is the pain still there or completely gone? Sometime with appendicitis, the pain could feel centralized, as in your entire abdominal region, not necessarily just on the lower left side. But lower left is classic. Also, there is a symptom called rebound tenderness - if you press the region where the tenderness is, lower left, you would feel pain more after the pressure is released.

I agree - go to the ER if you think you need to. I just read your post and know my response is really late...hope you're okay.
