anyone ever been on steroids? i have been on them before but never for such a long period as recently. i started them again the last week of august. as of yesterday, i have gained an unbelievable 45 pounds. i have recently been given the go-ahead to lower my dose, but when i do, i have an overwhelming amount of pain. im in a catch 22. oh, by the way, i have RA. im sure the 45 extra pounds arent helping the knee issues any, but im getting around for the first time in over a year and a half. I guess i dont know the point of posting this. im just depressed this morning and wanted to vent. and to see if anyone else has been on prednisone p.s. i have tried every natural cure known to man. It is rough being on them. I lost 100 pounds of 200 I put on from my heavy steroid bedridden, partially paralyzed time of a few years. But still have 100 to go. And still being on the damn but unfortunately necessary things, makes losing very very hard to do. I wish I knew how to help you. Cut out "white" from your diet. That helped me drop 20 more pounds in the last few months. No flour, sugar, bread, rice. Stay away from high glycemic foods like carrots, rice, honey, and so forth. If you are a vegan it may be harder to do. Good luck to you, {{{{{hugs}}}}}

I Have been on and off steroids for many years due to my asthma. including a steroid inhaler. I know how hard it is to take off the weight afterward. For me it is always a matter of time after i come off it. Its hard. Sometimes to counteract the weight gain i take two teaspoons of cider vinegar in water 3 times a day for etra weight lossIP: Logged |

Zen~~~I am a RN and have personal experience with steriods as well.. Steroids are hormones, any increase in hormones can predispose one to weight gain. Now, it is not the steroids/synthetic hormones that causes weight gain, but an increase in hunger. There is no clinical/scientific evidence that hormones in themselves cause weight gain. I have taken Prednisone for asthma and Depo Provera for manic period control and both have made me gain 15 lbs in the past year and I am fighting like all get out to get rid of it! Steroids are a wonder and can do so much to help one with auto-immune dis-eases live more free and comfortable, but they DO have their drawbacks. IP: Logged | |
