Well I just felt like using an animal "pun"........(claws for clause)

Does anyone know WHY we have been made to be so *hungry* if we are not meant to eat so much?

I am a Bio major so this is something I could study but I don't have time, as I have too many assignments and studying for the time being, and not enough time to do it all. Maybe in summer I can research it, but if anyone has any input that would be great!

The evolutionary process being a very long one, does not disappear overnight.
This is why I think people expect men and women to behave differently because 40 odd years ago parameters of equality were introduced, when in fact, you would have to override millions of years of them behaving a set way.
So hunger? I think the same applies.
Most of us are fortunate enough to have a steady supply of food but Nature is not aware of this.
Famine is just around the corner it seems to say.
Stuff as much grub as you can in that face of yours. We might not eat for another week.
I was a fitness instructor for 20 yrs and saw repeatedly how the people who put themselves on low calorie diet, well, the old metabolic rate just lowered itself accordingly.
1000 cals a day? Can't live on that. Adjust all systems fellas. Famine is on the doorstep!
I lived in South Africa for a good many years. The Bushmen of Namibia travel and hunt.
They can eat enough, when they find food, to make the majority of us explode. And then they can go without for long periods with no ill effect.
I think it's a great subject. And hey! You may stumble across the secret of how we can eat as much as we want and still stay thin. Yay!!!!

Prior to reading the above answer I had intended on replying with:

Perhaps because we have stretched our stomaches sooooooo much through eating abuse. Not being aware of what our bodies actually require and continuously "cleaning our plates" as our parents and society have taught us...

But now, I will say that I quite liked the answer above it sounds reasonable and very likely a better answer to this delima.

hmm?

Anyone else?

Television has nothing but food commercial one right after an other. That sends a little message to our brains. Laziness will make you hungry. boredom makes you hungry, loneliness makes you hungry, well these things don't make you hungry but food kind of fills the void.
When we are on the run we eat.
Most things that us humans do, we associate food with it. Go to the movies, sports events, list goes on...food. You cant even walk into a shopping mall without smelling food. laughing

Being an Ovulating Female makes me hungry.

It's not in my head!

It's in my tummy!

aren't? Why?

I was made to eat a lot. I am often hungry, ever since I was teeny-tiny. (as Linda would say)
