Behold! It's not a diet, as such, but research based on the best food for your genotype.

What is a genotype?

Your DNA that has been built over thousands and thousands of years from the path/journey/lifestyle your ancestors lived.

Was their diet mainly fish? Farmed red or white meat? Grains and Vegetables?

Check out Dr Peter D'Adamo's website:
http://www.genotypediet.com/publicsite/funnel/genotype.aspx

The best way to discover your Genotype is by buying the book:
http://www.amazon.com/GenoType-Diet-Genetic-healthiest-possible/dp/07679252 46/ref=pd_bxgy_hpc_img_b

Certain foods can cut off your DNA's ability to function. Other foods can optimize your DNA's abiltiy to function. Following the diet of your ancestors can add years and quality to your life!!!

Not that I wanted to use a celebrity endorsement, but the Universe threw this newspaper article my way while I was thinking about starting this thread.

I will try to add information as time allows, about Genotyping

I'm interested, koi
But I'm a little puzzled --

Using family history and blood type, as well as simple diagnostic tools like fingerprint analysis, leg length measurements, and dental characteristics, Dr. D’Adamo shows you how to map out your genetic identity and discover which of the six GenoType plans you should follow. Without expensive tests or a visit to the doctor, The GenoType Diet reveals previously hidden genetic strengths and weaknesses and provides a precise diet and lifestyle plan for every individual. Based on the latest and most cutting-edge genetic research, this is a twenty-first-century plan for wellness and weight loss from a renowned healthcare pioneer.

" . . . simple diagnostic tools like fingerprint analysis and dental characteristics" ???

I wonder how similar this is to Dr Joseph Mercola's Nutritional Typing??

There are six Genotypes. This information has been discovered after the Human Genome Project was able to map out human DNA genes.
http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/home.shtml

The Genotypes are the Hunter, the Gatherer, the Teacher, the Explorer, the Warrior, and the Nomad.

You can only be one type and not a mix of two or more. We may be able to get an approximate result from measuring certain limbs and knowing your blood type, and making an educated guess.

Dr D'Amamo states that once all information is in, there may be a need to deduct info to use guesswork. In saying this, if ALL tests are used, you will probably be 100% sure of which Genotype you belong.

Now, that scientists have mapped out the human gene, we will probably see more and more doctors become involved in this type of dietary practice.

Will be back with tips on how to measure certain limbs.

I seem to be a combination of most to some degree.
If you find the limb measurement information I am very interested as my limbs are very short.
How can any of us be only one type?
quote:

I have highlighted the bits relevant to myself.

The Hunter
Tall and athletic, with a square jaw, Hunters are energetic and intense.
They often suffer from allergies, asthma,
or rheumatoid arthritis. Blood type O.

The Gatherer
Sweet-natured, emotional, and natural problem solvers.
Gatherers tend to have a high BMI.
They struggle with appetite regulation and crash dieting.
Blood type O
or B.

The Teacher
Sinewy and flexible, with a square jaw.
Teachers are naturally exuberant with a calm outlook.
They are vulnerable to bacterial infections. Blood type A or occasionally AB.

The Explorer
Muscular, adventurous, and often accident-prone.
Explorers are smart and visually oriented. They're sensitive to caffeine, fragrances, and medications.
Any blood type.

The Warrior
Charismatic and quick-witted.
Warriors flush when nervous and have a hard time relaxing.
They're beautiful in youth, but age early and steadily.
Blood type A or AB.

The Nomad
Very tall or short, often with red hair or green eyes.
Nomads are quiet, witty, optimistic, and rational.
They have sensitive digestive tracts.
Blood type B or AB.

I'm a Hunter pure and simple.
All vegetarians turn away now.
I crave meat and could not possibly do without it.
I used to go to a deli where I would ask what the fillings were and then say could I just have a bag of meat and throw away the bun!
They got used to me in the end!
And watching me with a whole chicken is downright scary.
I am blood type O.
I have a vegan friend and she tries to feed me vegan food. Delicious. But after half an hour I could gnaw my own arm off!

You can only be one Genotype.

Dr. D'Adamo describes falling into the categories like six marbles being rolled down a mountain.

Each marble will find its own track down. One marble cannot take the same track down the mountain. The marbles started at the same point, but each took their own route down the mountain.

YOU NEED TO KNOW WHETHER YOUR TORSO IS LONGER OR EQUAL IN LENGTH TO YOUR LEGS.

Measure your torso:

To get your Chair Height:

1. Sit in a kitchen chair with a book on your head.
2. Have a friend measure from the bottom of the book to the ground
3. Measure from the top of the chair seat to the ground.
4. Subtract the chair height from your sitting height - that's your torso length.

Sitting Height minus Chair Height = Torso Length

Standing Height minus Torso Length = Total Leg Length

YOU NEED TO KNOW WHETHER YOUR LOWER LEG IS LONGER OR EQUAL TO YOUR UPPER LEG.

Measure your lower leg:

As you stand straight measure up the side of your leg, starting from the place where your ankle sticks out the farthest and ending att he bump on the outer side of your leg, just below your kneecap.

Measure your upper leg:

While sitting in a chair, place your fingers on the kneecap of either leg. Slide your fingers upward until they are off the kneecap and your fingertips slide into the groove above the kneecap. Make a mark at this spot with a washable marker.

Now look for the long skin crease between your hip and your leg. From this point, measure in a straight line to the mark you made on your knee.

INDEX & RING FINGER LENGTHS

To measure your index finger:

Place a ruler between your index finger and middle finger. Just place the ruler gently on the skin between those fingers. Using a clear plastic ruler aids in a more accurate measurement.

To measure your ring finger:

Place a ruler between your ring finger and your little finger to find the length of your ring finger.

(Note, even though the ruler will have a couple of millimetres of plastic before the zero point, remember you are not measuring for the exact measurement of your fingers, only which finger is longer).

Are you a SECRETOR?

Secretor status is closely linked to ABO blood type. A secretor gene controls wheter or not you secrete your ABO blood type antigen into your body secretions. About 85% of us secrete our blood type into our sweat, semen, mucus, saliva, etc. About 15% of us are missing this controlling gene and are called non-secretors.

A lab test is required. Non-secretors have lower levels of fat-busting enzymes, more nevirnmental sensitivities, weaker defense against yeast and parasites, and have a tendency for inflammatory problems such as arthritis.

Now, we may have enough information to make an educated guess of your Genotype, based on Dr D'Adamo's Calculator Table. To be sure, I recommend buying the book, as there are other measurements and factors that can help refine your investigation.

If you would like to know what your Genotype could be, let me know your:

** blood type, including positive or negative
** whether your torso is longer or equal to your legs
** whether your lower leg is shorter or longer than your upper leg
** whether your ring finger is longer or equal to your index finger for each hand
** do you think you are a Secretor?
** are you male or female?

My torso is longer than my legs. My ring fingers are longer on both hands. I am A+ blood type. I am a Secretor.
I am a:

Teacher http://www.4yourtype.com/teacher.asp

In fact, I know I am a Teacher because my A+ blood type with limb lengths dictates this, according to Dr D'Adamo's Calculating Table.

** blood type, including positive or negative
O-
** whether your torso is longer or equal to your legs
Much longer torso...10 inches longer than my very short legs.
** whether your ring finger is longer or equal to your index finger for each hand
ring fingers very slightly longer
** do you think you are a Super Taster?
Nope. Love love love the cruciferous veggies.
** are you male or female?
ouch...born both physically/and bone structure is male... but mostly female genetically but not 100%.

LEXX - you are morely likely to be a Hunter, possibly an Explorer.

I will try to add a new thread about Super Foods for each Genotype.

Thanks!
Lower is a bit longer than upper by 3 inches.
Nomad seems the closest but not in blood type.

Thanks.
It still seems complicated and not fitting only one genotype.

Super Taster - brocolli, cauliflower and cabbage taste bitter. A taste-kit can be purchased through an educational supplier to test for sensitivity toward PROP (propylthiouracil)

Fingerprints - do you have mainly whorls or lines?

I hope to get it from the library.
Strength meter?
Well I was and am unusually strong if that is what it means.
Just no stamina or little motor control what with being disabled.
