Try what's been written in the title or invent any home remedy all by yourself. It's fun.

Best of luck.

I'm due in a couple of days... and always get cramps! I'll will try this and see if it works. Am open to trying any natural remedy- I feel I have tried most of them anyway, still have not found any that works like they say they do! Except for acupuncture.

Thank you D! I've found out these symptoms could be anemia related too. At least I feel like I'm getting somewhere and can maybe start to heal now.

I'm glad you found a remedy that works for you. Thanks again for sharing it. I'll let you know how it works out.

Oh crap, I forgot!

I walked passed the brown sugar isle a few days ago, stopped and wondered why I had the feeling to buy some. I ended up taking panadol again. I will remind myself for next month in my calendar!

I get awful craps and an awful attitude. The week before I get my period I am a lunatic and will cry about insignificant things. Any suggestions for mood swings?

Hi D,

Wanted to let you know i tried your remedy twice now and it definitely worked for me.

Last time around, i didn't have brown sugar but still found relief from just the ginger boiled water. This time, i picked up some unrefined brown cane sugar and that worked quite well too.

It doesn't have quite the long lasting effect as painkillers so i found myself awaking to the worst cramps somewhere in the middle of the night during my 1st day. Had the tea again and found relief around an hour later.

My observation both times has been that it makes me feel really hot. I lowered the central air conditioning enough that everyone in the house was freezing but i still felt inexplicably hot. Anyways, small price to pay

Thanks again for posting it, i'm trying to cut down on painkillers.

Hi D. Hoping all is well with you.

I got some candied ginger and ginger tea (Yogi Tea) at the health food store and thought of you. The ginger's really yummy - sweet and spicy. I will let you know if it helps with cramps when the time comes.

Thanks again.

D, thanks. I just re-read your instructions and realized it's not that hard, so i will get everything soon and give it a go!

Much healing light to you too. Why do us women have to put up with this? Doesnt seem right or even fair to me...

D, Thank you for your warm response! I’ve read your posts elsewhere on this site and what LOVE your screen ID. It summarizes what I’m like which drives my family nuts (Roman Catholic, big on blind faith as the accepted response to every query )

Yes I agree, the effects would last less longer than chemical pain killers which is ok It was just one night of waking up to cramps which is a fair bargain to dropping Panadols, Advils, etc. Its just the heat that’s bothering me. I was relatively fine during the 1st 3 days but ever since then, I feel the heat flashes which are uncomfortable enough to disrupt my sleep. Perhaps it has to do with me living in a desert climate (its 50 degrees Celsius here and summer is only starting) and I was also diagnosed as having excessive heat in the body already by a holistic practitioner of medicine. I’m going to try to counter it by having cooling foods the rest of the month like cucumber, yoghurt etc.

In my culture, pineapple, papaya and mangoes (fresh fruit or juice) are consumed the days prior to the period because these are considered to generate heat in the body hence, either ensure your periods come as scheduled or bring about a period when delayed. It is advised to not consume excess (especially papaya & mango) as it brings about heat boils, flare of pimples. They are especially avoided during pregnancy as they are natural abortive & bring about miscarriages.

26taurus, I’ve got severe dysmenorrheal too & this did work for me so do try it. I’ve tried some of the above D has advised – like avoiding refrigerated foods, beverages, iced snacks, raw foods, etc and they’ve alleviated my symptoms a great deal. Have you got a hot water bag? It really helps with my lower back pain or abdomen when held against it. Also, if you have central air conditioning on all the time (I live in a desert climate so it’s a 24/7 situation at home, work, car etc), I suggest you wear clothing that covers most of you and keeps chill air from hitting you directly. I wear long sleeves, floor length pants, a spaghetti top under my clothes, socks when at home etc.

Librarising, I know what you mean, I think I’m ok just half a month. I get severe PMS symptoms for a week – 10 days prior and then the actual periods last 5 days!!! I suggest you try keeping your mind occupied with stuff that makes you happy. I watch comedies, catch up on emails and talks with bright friends etc. I’ve been told exercise is a great natural remedy as it releases “feel good” hormones but I’m too lazy.

Despite all the discomfort & pain, I will agree that monthly menstruation does feel like a purge. I know how much better I feel after I’ve had one compared to the months I skip. Perhaps the discomfort of it all is made worse by our circumstances. We’re forced to go in to work vs. being able to stay home looking after ourselves and other manners in which we’ve moved so far from the original state of affairs.

D, many thanks for the healing light you send to me too my friend!

And for sharing your thoughts and wisdom so kindly.

I don't look at it as a punishment or curse from God, but still, i cant get into the whole Goddess aspect or see the sacredness of it. I think many of those people have been misled and brainwashed, but what do i know? It doesnt sit well with me, is all and it's hard to explain - or i havent thought it through enough. I think it's one of the many negative effects or symtoms of being human and it sucks. I don't see Divinity in it. I think i can be in tune with the Moon and cycles around me without having to bleed every month and go through excruciating pain etc. LOL
I cant really explain well because i'm distracted by what's going on around me, but those are some quick thoughts.

Wiccan women may pity me. I just dont buy into any of that line of thinking.

T, hope you don't mind me butting in, just wanted to say i hear you.

I don't consider menstruation as a punishment or curse either and do feel physically and emotionally better when I'm done with a cycle but I can't go as far as identifying it with anything I consider Goddess related.

From an objective analysis perspective, even knowing it for its biological facts, doesn't stop me from asking "Why us"? I mean it does get overwhelming, esp. for people like me who suffer from dysmennorea -severe & a whole range of PMS symptoms for a week to 10 days prior, then actual menses for another 5. Its easy being at optimal for just half a month sometimes. The other days are an effort!

I suppose people look upon it as sacred because they think its linked to us winning the lottery on bringing new life into the world. That doesn't work for me coz I'm not really big about needing to bring more children into a world that already has several who could use a home & being an equalist, i have no issues if childbearing & all factors related were bequeathed to men! I think its just humans that place such an emphasis on women being somehow goddess like because of this ability of ours rather than accept that we're the carrying vessel & hence menstruation gets revered too. In the animal kingdom, they just do it, have the baby & get done with it

Also, if you look at the basics, we can't have kids without a man's contribution & heck, they don't go through PMS & menopause to produce their stuff!

Exactly! Thanks for speaking up Fases De La Luna. I'm right there with you.

I'm out of commission way too often because of it. And like you, it throws me for a loop the whole week beforehand too, not even counting during.

I'm not big on bringing children in either. Some of the people who are really weird me out. lol There are plenty of lovely children here already. Let's focus on straightening ourselves and them out first.

And as for the men, they couldnt handle it.

It would be nice to be in a "light body" of sorts someday...maybe on some other planet or some kind of new Atlantis. I doubt they got periods.
