I've been feeling very depressed recently and I'm fairly sure its hormonal. I've been googling for info just now on natural remedies on PMS and there are various suggestions from diet, lifestyle, vitamins, and a few herbal remedies.Has anyone anything to recommend from their own personal experience? Yes! to what Writesomething said. Also, try some green juice for good positive energy. You can juice anything you can think of, just make sure it's clean - no pesticides etc. Eating dairy and meat throws off your hormonal balance as well depending on the quantity and the sources. Reduce those. Eating good fats is important - nuts, olive oil, avocados, coconuts etc. I literally feel I am about to jump out of my skin sometimes when hormonal. Other times everything makes me cry... So I can relate. And yes, that advice is stemming from personal experience. Mmmm... another thing... orgasms help too. IP: Logged |

A good calcium, magnesium, zinc supplement Helps to avoid those pre cravings that wreak havoc.WomentoWomen.com has great articles. Dr. Northrup's site (The Wisdom of Menopause) I suffered with severe PMS all my life. Just had a complete hysterectomy in Jan. 09. I had Uterine Adenomyosis (a hidden disease) which is Endometriosis within the Uterus. Hope you can find relief. IP: Logged |

Hi LTT, sorry to hear that. My personal experience with hormone modulating foods such as Maca helped greatly, the magnesium content in cacao mixed with it is a true healing elixir. ( i will try to find an article T sent to me about PMS, it helped the emotional side of it ) like yin said, orgasms do help. I find that during pms I don't want to be sexually active, but sometimes just trying it will provide relief, although you are inducing a chemical flood in your body, endorphins, seratonin, dopamine and such, it is a temporary fix, having a partner who loves to give yoni massages is good, or do them yourself. the hormone issue is being experimented on by many people blogging on the internet, I trust mercola and david wolfe as reliable sources of info.

I just found what I wrote once when I let my intuition take over I think PMT is like hormonal flood gates that open to let out what is already there. Hurt, pain ect... It let's it out. Which is a good/sad thing at the same time. Keep a diary of how you feel, what comes out at that time. Work with it for a while, see a pattern, what's at the core ect... your Goddess is speaking. Great advice Sunchild. Thanks guys. I was looking for something primarily for balancing the hormonal and depression part of what seems to be happening, as I've never been too bad with the other symptoms....I think its mainly the hormones and depression I seem to get. I think what triggered it this time was being on the pill for a while and then coming off it to have a break. I took it consistently without having a week off, so I would be able to go away somewhere without getting my period. I have one due soon, but my body is out of synch. As for the mention of orgasms...lol, I agree. Personally I've found them to be the most powerful anti-depressant, although emotional security must go alongside with them in order for their effects to be profound and permanent. I have a long distance relationship at the moment. But when we met....yes. I felt like I was on top of the world, it was like being another person. So yes, in my experience this is the most powerful serotonin booster there is, whilst being completely natural. Anyway, I have heard that Black Cohosh is good for hormone balancing, although when I start taking the pill again it might be necessary to come off it as it might effect the effectiveness of it...I'm not sure though, will have to ask someone in the health shop when I go there. I just remembered how important B6 is for mood swings. I'm sorry you are having the harder experience. Keep listening to your body. A good doctor that listens and respects your needs is very important too. This is your time to be good to yourself, no guilt here, it's self preservation. I was "in control" of my emotions all my life and then this experience, too.IP: Logged |

EFA's/Omega 3 intake is really important too and helps elevate mood. I also take Borage Oil capsules & a probiotic. I also take Virgin Coconut Oil, straight by the teaspoon. You're body is constantly morphing, image the process of becoming the butterfly. This is your "cocooning" phase and you need the best intake of nutrients for your transformation and rebirthing process to come. Keep the faith. IP: Logged |

Thanks mermaid26. I went to the health shop today and I bought some of these: "Agnus Castus Agnus Castus is the most important herb in relation to helping PMS. It has been widely studied in relation to PMS and has shown to be extremely helpful in re-establishing a normal balance of hormones. Agnus Castus works on the pituitary gland and has a balancing effect on the hormones especially in the second half of the cycle which is why it is such an important herb for PMS symptoms. Caution You should not take any of the above herbs if you are taking, The Pill, Fertillity drugs, HRT or any other hormonal treatment or other medication unless they are recommended by a registered, experienced practitioner." http://www.marilynglenville.com/pms.htm (Lots more info on the above link). More info on Agnus Castus:Agnus castus is a very powderful hormone regulating herb, and hence it should be used with care. Use only if you have an uncomplicated medical history in regards to hormonal imbalance. If you suffer from pain around the time of ovulation or you have a family history of ovarian cysts - do not take this herb unless under the guidance of a medical herbalist. Regular use of agnus castus is not suitable for women under 20 years of age. If you feel safe to take this herb it is a fantastic remedy for the classic symptoms of PMS A. Take the tincture for three months from the middle of your cycle (ovulation) until when you begin to menstruate. For best results take in the morning before rising. Take for 4 cycles. If symptoms still occur after this time, consult a medical herbalist. http://www.haelan-online.co.uk/Remedies-PMS.shtml IP: Logged |

More from the same link:PMS-D Symptoms D stands for depression. Other associated symptoms include confusion, forgetfulness, clumsiness, feeling withdrawn, lack of co-ordination and crying spells. PMS D is the least common of all the categories. It is recommended that sufferers of these symptoms see a practitioner; self-treatment should not be attempted, particularly if symptoms are severe. There may be underlying problems which should also be addressed such as an under active thyroid or more complex hormonal imbalance. PMS-D Supplements Sufferers of PMS-D are advised to follow the dietary advice given in foods that encourage hormonal balance and foods that aggravate PMS. It is important to make sure you are not underweight for your height and bone structure, also make sure that you are not eating too much fibre (e.g. all bran or wheat germ). Fibre should not be isolated but taken in the whole grain (e.g. wholewheat bread, brown rice). A food state multivitamin and mineral complex is highly recommended, as it will provide you with a baseline of nutrients, ensuring that you absorb other supplements you take more effectively. A food state magnesium supplement is recommended to help alleviate tension and hormonal imbalance. Food state vitamin B complex for general stress symptoms Oats (see our porridge recipe) and liquorice tea (do not take if you have high blood pressure) are also helpful. It is a good idea to seek professional advice before taking any further supplements. IP: Logged |
