the contraction of the psoas muscle when sitting "erect" becomes chronic when people are stationary in that position for any considerable length of time. the longer you sit the longer the "recovery" time when you stand...the psoas connects the lumbar spine to the hips and thighs, and chronic contraction leads to chronic tension on all three spots; some people feel it in their backs, others in the hip, others suffer from a broad range of problems stemming from improper posture ...including hip/knee problems, neck and shoulder problems, even breathing problems since the ribcage and diaphragm can also be impacted.a sad state of affairs. but getting up and stretching and moving around at least once an hour can alleviate the problem no end...
