Thank you for this post as I deeply suspect that I have diabetes. I have had a lot of symptoms over the past two weeks. Frequent urination, sweating lots, numb and tingly feet, light head aches, abdominal upset etc......I did go to emerg on friday night and they checked everytthing but did not do a glucose fasting test. They checked my blood glucose and it was at 4.1 which is good. They checked my urine and it was fine. The last two weeks, I have changed my diet and stopped with the white bread and anything that makes diabetes worse. I have yet to by a monitor but I need to brace myself and educate myself before the doctor calls me in....... Cynn IP: Logged |

They probably would have caught it if it were diabetes. You could be low on Vitamin E. Try taking some d-alpha tocopherol (not dl-alpha) and see if your feet stop tingling.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I think it's great you want to take initiative to improve your's and your family's health. If I can make a suggestion, have you heard of the alkaline/acidic diet? Germs, viruses and cancer cells die in an alkaline environment and thrive in an acidic environment. If possible try to always keep your body on the alkaline side. The general rule for health is to eat 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acidic forming foods. Almost all vegetables and fruits are alkaline forming foods. Stevia is a natural sweetener that's alkaline as well. Meat, eggs, warmed up oils, berry fruits, fish, nuts like peanuts & cashews, sugar, dairy, grains, coffee etc ... are acidic forming foods. Here's a chart to give an example: http://www.balance-ph-diet.com/acid_alkaline_food_chart.html If you like grains, you can eat them safely by letting them sprout first, this way they are not acidic to your body. If you like bread you could try sourdough bread or sprouted bread. Sprouted bread tastes slightly sweet and absolutely YUMMY and you can easily make it yourself without using salts and baking soda. It's so good you can even eat it on it's own! IP: Logged |

The really cool thing about changing one's eating habits, is that, overtime, the new habits become like they were always there. It is not easy to do, but with enough determination, on can succeed! Recently been researchig the "blood type" diet, not so much a fad "diet" but a way of living per one's blood type. The MD that wrote it makes alot of sense. He goes back historically defining the roots and origins of each of the 4 blood types. It is a hard regimine to follow as far as foods are concerned. My ex bfriend, now on his 10th heartattack I hear studied this way of living, communicated personally with Dean Ornish after his heart surgery 10 or so years ago, and is still standing. I tend not to follow any diet, but follow my body's cravings (not the mind ) and research, put together what is best for me at any particular time of my life. good luck and bravo for a good decision! btw, many of my patients have been successful in ridding themselves of diabetes just by diet, exercise, etc. t~~~ IP: Logged | |
