When i lived in pennsylvania and it came time for my daughter's MMR vaccine i told the doctor i would only get them unbundled one at a time.. She was ok with that and ordered the vaccines for me.. when i took my daughter in for her measles vaccine i was told to wait at least one month before getting the next one. This then became a question in my mind if there was to be a one month wait between vaccines why did they try to give 3 at one time more on vaccines http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1808438,00.html IP: Logged |

After much debate and research, I chose not to have my son vaccinated. I found that by spending more time educating myself on the disease rather than the vaccine I was able to circumvent a good deal of the sometimes extreme and bias coverage to be found in both the pro and anti-vax crowd. Now, I'm just not particularly scared of the measels or whooping cough etc. At least not the way the CDC, FDA or AMA would like me to be. I've found this site to be calm and level headed. http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/ I think Harpyr referred me to this one. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47 You have to wade thru a small bit of muck, but there are several posters who make it worthwile. Momtezuma Tuatara is worth a search. Truckloads of good info. such an important topic. thanks for bringing it up, Quinnie. I've read so many stories like those in nattie's link. Too many. when i was a kid i remember taking polio vaccine at school with everyone else. a friend of mine who was part of the "tryout study"(live vaccine) developed severe scoliosis. no one has ever known whether the polio vaccine was to blame or not. but we were not given shots for everything under the sun the way today's kids are.as i've mentioned before, my grandson has just recovered from two years of a blood disorder (called ITP) which his doctors think very possibly linked to his having had a huge coctail of vaccinations about a month before... my daughter was about 3 when MMR became all the rage and i refused it on the grounds that i survived all three of those diseases, and i wanted her immune system to have something to practice on, just not in vaccine form. the docs argued with me but i held my ground. when she was old enough to conceive she was tested for rubella antibodies and came up positive...she had had mumps shortly BEFORE the vaccine was suggested and they still wanted to give it to her! with whooping cough i had less luck. though i wanted it left out, the attending doctor (not my own GP) PRETENDED to agree with me and AFTERWARDS told me she had "forgotten" not to include the whooping cough dose. my daughter screamed for 24 hours straight after that shot. compared to the reactions some kids have had we got off easy. i hope to god there is never a mandatory flu vaccination program, it seems to be a very dicey vaccine with a lot of serious side effects. maybe i will just hit the road if that happens... Bump!Great links thank you. I'm so glad that I chose not to vaccinate my kids. There is a great book I read 12 years ago on vaccinations by Vera Schneider I believe her name was. All my kids have benefited greatly from not being vaccinated. IP: Logged |

I just followed my gut with this, and did not vaccinate my kids. I got a lot of judgement for it, and a lot of people who wanted to fight me on this issue, but ultimately I COULD NOT do it...I had a bad reaction to a vaccine not too long ago, with moderate painful symptoms - caused me to really question allowing doctors to inject my kids with several vaccines all at once... Not to mention, I don't trust drug companies with the health of my kids... IP: Logged |
