What would you say is currently our biggest threat to health? There are so many, but I would say the largest right now has to be trans fat. The stuff is pure poison. What do y'all think?

Death by prescription medication is a bad one. It's the third leading cause of death (after cancer and heart disease). If you separate by gender, heart disease is the number one cause of death in women. You seldom hear that much about it, though. I would say stress probably plays a big role in all disease, especially the top two killers.

A few of the mini-strokes I had were caused by a drug for the IBS.
It was banned by the FDA.
A drug my husband too caused him to die.
I had to do CPR etc. on him.
Yes, sodium depletion and sudden death were possible side effects.
Then last year an idiot dr put him on a drug that had printed on its label,
"May cause suicidal thoughts"
or some such phrase.
And yes, he tried to.
Worse part, is it ends up that dr was treating him for seizures which we since found he does not have.
Cannot sue any of the above med issues because no one died.
We were on other meds that were causing angina, so no longer on those.
I hate taking meds.

I have weird blood pressure but they cannot treat it because it varies too much.
It is as low as 96/51 whilst lying down;
and as high as 199/99 sitting up.
Fortunately the high one is rare.
Usually up is 145/78 average.

when I go to the ER...

and it is seldom,

my blood pressure is 255/105

they freak out, saying I'm gonna
have a heart attack...I've not
had one yet...

I only go when I think there is
nothing I can do...and then
they pump all these drugs in me...

takes me a week to recover, from
what they gave me. ...

and then, I wish I hadn't gone to the
ER at all... .

They say 120/80 is normal, but up to 139/89 is still acceptable (high normal). Anything 140/90 or above is bad.

Stress is a trigger to many illnesses and dis-eases.

That is called malignant hypertension, wont cause a heart attack alone, necessarially, but could certainly cause a hemmorrhagic stroke, (ie bleed in the brain.) Hypertension over the years causes the blood vessels to weaken and could lead to a heart attack, but mostly your kidneys are at risk.

For some people it is heradiitary, for some diet, exercise, stress relief can help wonders!

Blood pressure meds are relatively not that expensive, you should be seen by a MD.

Rajji, low blood pressure is usually not that significant, but can be a symptom of something else. The thing with low blood pressure is the risk of your organs not being perfused adequately. Whoever the idiot who told you to consume salt is just that an idiot! As long as you are not feeling bad, ie lack of energy and dizziness, esp, you are probably ok. The next time you have your blood pressure checked, take note of the "mean." It is the third number most folks pay no mind to. For instance if your bp is 90/60 your mean may be 63, if it is 95/65 your mean may be 62, if it is 90/35 your mean may be 50, these are just examples but a mean bp (the mean is kind of the average but calculated per a specifc equation) and a mean of atleast 60 means that your organs are getting enough blood perfusion.

I also wanted to mention stress.

We suffer not only mental/emotional stress which effects our bodies, but physical stress.

In the hospital all patients are put on "Protonix" a acid inhibitor to prevent stress ulcers. When the body is under physical demands that it is not used to, like hard exercise or surgery, the physical body becomes stressed. We may not realize it, but our bodies are stressed just like our emotions become stressed.

Another thing I would like to address is prescritpion meds. They can be killers to be sure. I am on more than I would like now, but I have some health issues that if I dont address, I could certainly meet an early demise and an ugly one at that! But I am smart enough to make other changes in my life, ie diet, exercise, etc. and I have my labs drawn religiously to monitor the potential effect of the meds on my liver.
