http://www.nealbarnard.org/diabetes_book.htm The only reason I am posting this book is because I've heard positive things from people who have actually healed themselves. Been a bit hesitant to, but if it works then it would be a sin not to share it. IP: Logged |

It is interesting, but, again the thing is carbs, for carb sensitive folks and diabetics as well.Carbs break down to sugar, the more simple of carbs, ie: fruits, the more pure sugar one is getting, the more complex like brown rice, the less sugar, but still breaks down to sugar in the body. C12H22O11 --- twice C6H12O6 + H2O Carbohydrate ---- glucose + water Carbon is one of the basis for life, it is found in everything, but carbohyrates, in the form of injested foods breaks down to sugar and the gas that is expelled from the chemical breakdown is what can bloat the livin heck out of some sensitive folks like myself. Carbs are sneaky little things! Like I mentioned the beans....gosh loaded with protien, no need for meat, but loaded with dangerous carbs. Lentils as well, so yummy, but loaded with carbs. One has to be really careful with a vegetarian diet and not getting too carbed down. Most folks I have known that have tried to go completely vegetarian, including myself, endup gaining weight, cause of those hidden carbs in alot of veggies, thus why I stick to the leafy greens. A diabetic could definately beneft from a vegetarian diet, but would have to be so very careful on what veggies. Carrots...LOVE em, but cant have them! Pure sugar, nearly! Thanks for posting, again, all things taken into consideration, whatever works then more power to em! terri~ IP: Logged |

Are you diabetic, hippi? My daughter's father was just diagnosed with Type 1, rare at his age to get such a diagnosis, and apparently (I generally take what he says with a HUGE grain of salt) will be insulin dependent. Although he told me he hasn't taken any yet, so how BS is that? I don't know.. I have been looking into other ways to treat it without the insulin, but I can't seem to come up with any. IP: Logged |

No, I am not, but I am an ICU RN who works with a population that is mostly diabetic.Geee....that is all I need with all my other health problems!!! Sometimes, as in the largely Mexican culture I deal with, it is just pure and simple genetics. If he has to do meds, then he HAS to, cause the complications of diabetes are killers. Many folks are able to control their diabetes with diet, exercise, but again many are not. Either way, just control it, it is paramount to health, or I would not be here bitching about it so much! lol! terri~ IP: Logged |

What hippi said. Type 1 is a lot more difficult to control AND I've seen first hand what it does to people who don't take it seriously. Very, very scary.IP: Logged |

If somebody is diagnosed with this to be "insulin dependent", wouldn't they need to begin taking it ASAP? And quit smoking/drinking etc? This is going to sound really cruel maybe, but I feel like it may be a ploy for attention. I know if *I* got this diagnosis, I would be IMMEDIATELY following the instructions by my doctor. But since I am NOT a relative, not like I can call his doctor and find out if it's true... ghaniIt is quite an insidious disease, many folks dont have symptoms till on toe begins to drop off, has a major heart attack, begins to go blind, etc. Maybe he has not had symptoms and is in denial and is not scared yet. Other than that, diabetes is just a number to someone, which is hard to take corrective action against, unless something has really scared someone. This is why alot of diabetics have life altering trouble from it, it doesnt manifest till it has taken its toll on the body. He is just going to have to find out on his own. terri~ blessings and best of luck~~~ IP: Logged |

Thank you for your response, t. It is concerning to me because he has had a near death car crash in the last year, and several other incidents of self-induced near life altering (for the worse) things happen and NOTHING seems to wake him up. Each of these things became MY problem, and I was tirelessly contacted by him to "help" him with them. Even though we have been broken up for two years. (Cancer Sun with NO mother figure, btw) I try to have faith in people and their ability to be honest, but I have just been through so much with this person, each time being let down and shown that it was all some kind of elaborate game. If he truly does have Type 1, I pray that he will take the proper steps for his health because we have an amazing little girl that needs her dad to be healthy. I guess I just needed to know if it's possible to NOT take the medication you are told you NEED (ie insulin) or if you could techincally go without until crisis happened. Thank you again.
