For the first time I bought a trader joe's shampoo and conditioner. Called Tea Tree Tingle.

How about you Yin and others?

I don't - although I occasionally remember to either rub some coconut oil or coconut milk into my hair, before washing.

My sister uses soap nuts. She boils them up, and then uses a mixer on a small portion of the water that results from it, using that in her hair in the shower (I think - we aren't speaking).

Coconut oil makes my hair oily
I wonder if that'll be the case if I use a liberal amount of it and then rinse with castile soap... Something to explore.

I know a few people who liked the baking soda and vinegar method for their hair. I keep meaning to rinse with vinegar and water.

Hi teasel,
I'm looking into soap nuts right now. May be too involved for me. I like simple things. I wish the castile soap was enough.

Baking soda and vinegar will strip my hair of color as the henna washes out after a while so I don't want to do that.

Did not have time to style my hair yesterday. And when I don't add moose or hairspray. I realize how fine and silky my hair is. But I fell like when I style my hair it gets less greasy.

Does natural moose and hair spray exist?

I don't know but you CAN style your hair with coconut oil. It works more like a pomade or a gel though.

Oh, Taurus and their sensual pleasures! Yes, lush smells good but I am yet to find out how toxic it is.

Found it:

I should have been a Taurus (it was my progressed Sun for most of my life, so far). I've always wanted to try something from lush - I've been hearing about them for years!

People have to pull me out of the aisles of pretty-smelling products. I was in a health-food store, after christmas shopping one night, and my dad saw the skin care/shampoo/conditioner aisle, and just said, "NO!"

this one product I use is a 6 (is 10 being the highest hazard?)

Cancer risk is zero, but everything else is pretty moderate

My shampoo and body wash are not on the site.

I also looked at my herbal essence hair moose but what do ya know?...no herbs in the ingredients. Shocker.....

this is what i'm using now. though not for the hair. plus idk if it's for women. it sez fox! /shrug it doesn't really alter my mood or acts as an aphrodisiac but it did say to share the shower! i am doing it wrong lol! either way i only know lush for honey i washed the kids soap and shampoo bars.

I use this stuff that's phthalate-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free. So far, I like it.

Hi Stawr,
I've used that too. It's OK. Haven't checked its toxicity index. I use mostly castile soap for everything.

Another question: who determines "toxicity"? Is it a special-interest group/people who are very decidedly on one side (i.e., sympathetic to organic people, anti-corporations, people with a strong point of view) or are they objective and neutral? How are their tests conducted? Are they backed up by other people? Are they simply pushing their own views?

And, honestly? Out of the people I know, none of them use unusual products. None of them have health issues. The people that don't have problems and those who do use similar products as far as I know. So, how is that explained?

And, too, do genes and behaviors/lifestyle matter more? And what about what hippichick said about the body naturally clearing itself of some bad things?

All is true, Platero.

I think that our bodies can clear themselves of toxins, especially if our livers are working well.

The toxicity index is based on how toxic (carcinogenic) the ingredients in those products are. See http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

If I dug around, I'm sure I can find scary testimonies about how a certain product has been linked to causing cancer with some scary pictures to boot. But I won't. It's your choice and your responsibility to research all sides of the coin and draw your own conclusions.

The reason I am driven to simpler products is the need for simplicity and to be closer to nature. I have an aversion to artificial things. I despise consumerism and am weary of big corporations trying to push their products onto me. I have made a choice to live this way.

And anyway: Castile soap smells good and works on everything. Why would I explore a thousand different products that are as removed from nature and natural state as they can be if I can use this simple versatile thing?
