Faith or anyone that does wheat grass. What is the best kit to start with?

I have no idea what the best kit is. I like this grower, and I thought of getting it, but balked at the price tag. Then, I couldn't even find convincing reviews about how it helps prevent mold (which is the #1 problem people have when growing wheatgrass.)

As I said before, I've had great success simply growing it outside, like a regular garden plant. Wheatgrass likes the shade, so that's where I put it.

I just drank about a half cup that I juiced with this:

Feeling groovy

Ok. Thanks Faith. I can grow it outside and the manual one would be much cheaper and not take up so much room.
Thank you! I need someone with experience to help me.

Great!

I just buy organic seeds in bulk from Whole Foods. I sprout a cup at a time. I soak them overnight, then drain in a colander either in a dark cupboard or on the counter set over a bowl, covered with a kitchen towel. Rinse twice a day for two days.

Then I go out by the apple tree, scrape away some topsoil, lay out sprouts and cover with a thin layer of soil so the sprouts remain in the dark. Water once a day if it doesn't rain. 'Takes about five days to grow and will re-grow once, maybe more if you do it right.

This grass is greener than any I've grown indoors, so I assume it's healthier (more chlorophyll.)

And the wheatgrass juicer gets more juice from the grass than any other tool, I'm convinced. So congratulations...you can count on that thing!

Sometimes our cat is in the mood for it- she likes eating the cut grass. But usually she's not interested.

Good luck with your juicer

Have you had wheatgrass juice before?

Hi Ami, we're on here at the same time.

Just to warn you then, wheatgrass juice tastes VERY strong. However, I've read that the more you drink it, the more your body adjusts to the taste. And that seems to be the case for me: it is slightly less intense for me now, after drinking it 2-3x/week for past month or so.

I have Ann Wigmore's Wheatgrass Book. She is the one who popularized this drink (her grandmother used grasses to heal wounded WWI soldiers in Germany.) I'm pretty sure she recommends drinking it on an empty stomach, and that's what I usually do, but I will double check for you.

Don't be nervous about this one since it is very easy. I doubt you'll have any trouble.

Juice helps to mask the taste, but not completely.

I got the wheat and want to ask you about it, Faith. I will look and tell you the name on the bag.

Tell me what you think. How do you plant it, what depth and distance from each other?

I can Google if you don't feel like explaining!

Sprout seed might be different from the hard winter wheat berries that I use. But I'm sure the process can't be much different.

I just soak it, sprout it (as described above) and then plant it by just spreading out a continuous carpet on the earth that I scraped free of rocks and debris. No space between sprouts. Then I crumble dirt over the sprouts. Water once a day. Very simple.

I realized that I only get two clippings from each patch of grass, though. You might get more, depending on your soil and conditions.

This article says to just put it out in the dirt.

I am gonna put it in the shade of some big pepper plants.

It says to lightly cover it with dirt.

Is that what you do, Faith?

I am really excited

Just planted wheatgrass. I did 6 plastic containers and some under the shade of big pepper plants.
I got so much for such a cheap price. I am going to plant it in various places and see what happens.
I am excited. Thanks for all your tips, Faith!
