No, but I have jasmine. I added it to some epsom salt to give as part of the gifts I'm giving for a package of birthday gifts for one side of my family.

Personally, I love to combine Frankincense and myrrh, or lemon, lavender, and clary sage. Those are my personal favorite combos.

I'm not sure about the difference between clary sage and regular sage...I just know that clary sage is one of my absolute favorites (I add it to baking soda to make a carpet freshener before vacuuming, I add it to my bath with other oils, and made a body mist for myself with it).

It's very calming and centering at the same time, so really good if you're feeling stressed or irritated.

Yeah, lemon balm smells so good! It grows all over the place in our flower garden, so I've been able to put the actual leaves to a few good purposes.

Lemongrass and Sage you must be careful with both, and know what you are doing before use. Clary Sage is actually a Salvia, I believe in the old days they used the seed to clear the eye, like chia seed, it gets a mucilaginous sac upon solution. Lemonbalm (Melissa) is very difficult to capture, I believe it is very expensive. It diffuses. The leaves on the other hand, are very calming, but fresh is best. Jasmine Absolute Rocks! I totally miss Sandalwood, it is a fixative; kind of like Cedarwood, but is now unfortunately becoming rarer.

Oh, I forgot Lotus. They have blends that resemble, but they were still working on an Essential, last I heard. I know a local Water Garden Girl who was growing them for this purpose. I am out of touch; they may have developed one by now.

I use Geranium oil (and epsom salt!) in my baths, sometimes Ylang Ylang when I want to feel exotic.

Also Tranquility by Aura Cacia. Copying from their website, that blend has:

quote:
LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA (LAVENDER) OIL, ABIES BALSAMEA (BALSAM FIR) NEEDLE OIL, POGOSTEMON CABLIN (PATCHOULI) OIL, CYMBOPOGON MARTINII (PALMAROSA) OIL, PELARGONIUM GRAVEOLENS (GERANIUM) OIL, CHAMEAMELUM NOBILE (ROMAN CHAMOMILE) OIL.

Usually, I switch around what I put on the room diffuser. I follow the recommendations on the essential oil bottles (Aura Cacia brand, again: they list these recipes.) My collection of oils includes about 20 different kinds, but my #1 oil is Geranium. I don't know why, I just love it.

@Violets

Gotta get myself some Jasmine, though!

@Faith--
Jasmine has been tricky for me, haha. I think you have to mix it with *just* the right EO in order for it to smell really good, or use it very lightly. I had to ditch the epsom salt gifts and make some with bergamot instead (I think I added too much jasmine to the original batch).

If I remember correctly, it smelled kind of good with myrrh, but I forget sometimes and I have to write it down.

I have some sandalwood, but it's *really* strong, so just a drop for a perfume or bath for me...I wish I knew how to make sandalwood incense, I love that stuff!

I also use Aura Cacia, although I've read that NOW EOs are just as good? I'm not sure I'm convinced on that, but they're less expensive.

Wonderful topic! Love me some EOs!

Bergamot, yum...

A friend of mine wants to start a business selling room sprays (she worked for an essential oil company before, in Germany) and she's always tinkering with Jasmine. But I get the feeling it's a delicate art, getting the scent to be right and stay right as the whole room spray concoction ages.

I think I'm weird because I also love the smell of rose absolute on a room diffuser. It's totally over the top, like suffocatingly rosey, but I can't help myself sometimes, it's like the scent equivalent of eating a whole chocolate cake (which I wouldn't do, I find other ways to "stuff myself" like with this eccentric rose ritual. )

Once I got hooked on EOs there was no going back to synthetic fragrance, I want EOs as an ingredient in everything that tries to smell nice, including laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets...I use Mrs. Meyers brand.

I remember taking a short aromatherapy course some 10 years ago...they recommanded always starting with 5 oils,

Lavender, Tea Tree oil (these are the ones you can use neat),

orange (or lemon, basically anything citrus)

Rose EO, and then something like Geranium or Ylang Ylang.

Depending on where you are Aura Cacia, is great, but also a lot of great suppliers in Europe, whichever is closer to you!

Same here! I am trying to perfect the scents so that I can sell candles or perfumes (or body or room sprays, or whatever).

I believe I have a bit of a knack for it, which is a nice creative outlet for me. It's easier than painting, that's for sure.

I'm still working on how to make my homemade laundry detergent make my clothes come out smelling really nicely, so I've been taking a wet wash cloth and spraying some EOs on it and throwing it in the dryer, haha.

It works okay, but I would prefer it to be a bit stronger. Trial and error, eh?

They test their products for GMO's and it was started by Rosemary Gladstar

Thank you very much, guys! Bits of helpful info can do wonders

I just bought some insomnia (sandal and marjoram) and it's ******* me off.. the lady said 15 drops, I was like, you nuts? The most I put is 5 drops. 5 drops of lemongrass is enough to fill your nostrils for 6 hours. I have put like 7 drops of "insomnia" and its still mild :/

Geezus. I'm awaiting my cheaper stock to arrive. Sometimes buying from brand name stores doesn't mean it's good :/

cool. I still have sandalwood shower cream. I hated it before but ever since I got deeper into essential oils I am appreciating it!

The market is now awash with essential oil shower gels. I saw a lotus one the other day. I might get that. Lotus has extremely good properties especially for the crown.

I always used the Essential for Moonday, but then it got put on the endangered list and the price went through the roof! Now I use a jasmine.

I don't generally use a commercial product, I make my own. Then I know what goes into it.

How cool.

I was thinking of making my own the other day. I think starting with orange essential oil would be the best.

there are many methods it seems. Do u put yours in alcohol, or do u put them atop a double boiler?

BTW I googled Essntial for Moonday and there are no results

Oh heck no, I don't make Essential Oils. You would have to grow fields to do that! (That's why they are so concentrated.) I make herbal salves and creams. Three parts herbal-infused Olive, two parts Shea, Cocoa or other soft butter, one part beeswax. I like a little less beeswax for a looser mix, for massage and such. Essential Oils are great for fragrance as well as the properties. Some are fixative.

I used to use Sandalwood Essential Oil as personal ritual every Moonday. Orange would be for Sunday, Patchouly for Saturnsday, etc.
