One guy who is a hypochondrical Virgo told me that even organic veggies were. What do you all think?

The ones from my garden aren't!

And here is an article from Whole Foods, who apparently does not carry irradiated produce.

I used to be strong, but my girls finally talked me into it.

I'm so ashamed

Well, we all have our pitfalls, don't we?

I never used ours, and I forbade my husband to use one for our son's food. He finally decided one day that he was also sick of it, so we just put it in the garage.

I didn't want to throw it away, because my step-dad had got it for me when I moved into an apartment at some point, so it's just sitting out there.

But...for the record, I ate a doughnut the other day.

True, True Confessions...

Well, it's only been a year, but I feel like that Hippie Woman in "Flashbacks" sometimes...

You know the one who was Magickal Max's (Billy Crystal) wife in "The Princess Bride?"

YOu can get devices that make the microwave not harmful to food. My friend sold them. I can find the link where you can buy them online, if you want.

I have no vested interest in anything. I think my friend passed on as I have not seen her for years but I use the devices she sold me because I think they are very good.

I don't use the microwave anymore. It completely kills all nutrients and changes the molecular structure of the food. The main reason, though, is that there's something comforting about warming food on the stovetop. The smell fills the kitchen and the food keeps its temperature longer.

The only veggies not irradiated are those from local farm markets. There was a science fair project where a student tried to grow plants from sweet potatoes. The supermarket produce did not even sprout! Organic grew, but not well. The local farm item did the best.

Maybe I can search for the article. I think it was actually on youtube.

Ok, the science fair product was not about the radiation but about the chemical spray "bud nip" which penetrates the entire veg or fruit. Sorry, I'm glad I felt I had to look this up again so not to give faulty info here.

Here's the link for the experiment: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=exBEFCiWyW0

About irradiating foods... This is not as harmful as the chemical sprays, but it alters the DNA of the food substance slightly and is mostly used to kill pests and harmful organisms like salmonella. I will have to look into this further.

Found this info, but you have to trust the labeling system, so there's no way to be sure.

FDA requires that irradiated foods bear both a logo and a statement that the food has been irradiated.

USDA supports FDA in promoting appropriate uses of food irradiation. USDA also sets, defines and regulates the use and meaning of "organic" on food labels (irradiated food does not meet the definition of “organic”).
