I stumbled across this on redit. http://ohheytherehair.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/diy-flaxseed-honey-hair-gel.html Does anyone have experience making their own hair gel? This recipe includes honey. I'm concerned that the bee's wasps and hornets will be drawn to the honey in the product. Also wondering if raw honey is okay to use? The blog says "Store in a sealed container or a glass jar. It should last around 1-2 weeks refrigerated. It may last longer but do keep checking on it. It can also be frozen to be stored for longer." I'm not one to use hair gel everyday. (I was in the winter when I was braiding my hair a lot for extra hold) But since I'm not gelling my hair religiously right now, I was wondering if I put in a preservative like lemon juice, if it would last way longer than a few weeks? http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/bulkmisc/bulkmisc.php I don't know if the citric acid listed here might help or not. Honey will crystallize, I know that. You have to heat it to reliquify it. I used to get a lot of good recipes from a Dina Falconi book. "Heavenly Hair and Earthly Bodies" or somesuch. Great Book. Some things will need an emulsifier to keep the ingredients from separating as well. IP: Logged |

I tried using honey as part of a homemade hair gel, but I was just experimenting...no recipe. So it was a little gooey, haha. I forget what else I used with it.I'll give that recipe a shot! Sometimes my pomade makes my hair a little too greasy if I use too much of it. And it definitely doesn't hold it in place or anything. It just makes it less frizzy and adds a little more control. Awesome, Stawr! I sort of started to give up on making some of this stuff, because sometimes it doesn't work for me. But I have to say that my homemade facial scrub works way better than the stuff I bought at the store that's supposedly "natural" (and we all know that's not completely true anyway). And I love my homemade toothpaste. IP: Logged |

Thanks for reminding me, I need to get a Leaf. Sword. Tentacle.Whatever. No home is complete without an Aloe Vera in the window. Especially near the Kitchen... IP: Logged |

Also, I finally got the recipe to pop up, and it is the Rose Water that probably causes the problem.I always use RainWater when the recipe calls for it, especially like the Stationary Planet ThunderStorms Water-Filled Cauldron method of collect, (Fall Season Excellent Moon-Day or Venus' hopefully in the Right Sign and Configuration) for my Lotions and Cremes, but they do tell you to use distilled water, so it doesn't have bacteria. That can really be a culprit. Nine times out of ten, when a recipe goes bad, it is due to the water. Citrus might work, but is extremely drying. But we all do things our own way, and that is what makes it fun! IP: Logged |

Ah, I miss my aloe plant, she's gone now. I would also like to find another one. I suppose they probably have them at the nursery...maybe. I hope your burn heals well, Stawr. IP: Logged |

yes, I now make sure I don't over do it on the butter when I crack eggs onto the pan. The burn marks on my arms are from the eggs hitting the pan and the grease bouncing up onto my arm. My friend yesterday told me that I looks like I have a personal problem with the burn marks on my arms. :/ So glad they are starting to fade away now. Very cool, I have the same Sun, Moon and Mercury sign as Linda. IP: Logged |

Never used aloe juice in hair but I love drinking it! Can't find it too many places, I better start supporting the small businesses that do around here. IP: Logged |
