I have been drinking coffee as early as age nine.

When I was a young adult I would have cup after cup. I realized I was getting dehydration headaches, so I got in the habit of having water in between.

Then in my early 20's I got super into red bull. I relied on it heavily for my early 20's lifestyle.

I started to understand building up caffeine tolerances. Once my life got more stable I realized I did not need to have a redbull everyday. I sometimes felt like I needed more than one, to give my all with work, college, and an active social life.

My Virgo stellulum fiance would get on my case about my redbull habits. Even if I haven't had a redbull in 5 months and he sees me with one, I will have to hear about it. That's okay my 6th house stellulum pays him back about his fast food habbits. We both cut down together as a team.

Anyways I love
Coffee
coldbrews
Redbulls
off brand red bull at aldies called red thunder
Organic Energy drinks
Iced Green tea
Chai
black tea
Pop! (or those of you from other states soda)

I stocked up on these things. I am less exited about drinking regular coffee at home. To the point that once the energy drinks, pop, ice teas, cold brews are gone...Yesterday I tried just having one cup of coffee and just drinking water, la coix, and hard cider.

All I had to do was a 300 word discussion board. I could not finish it. I thought I finally finished it last night and saw that there were more questions and I was done! LOL
I day dreamed so much yesterday that only other productive things I did was shower and talk on the phone with my fiance.
I did a lot of BSing online, and took lots of homework breaks.
Motivation to do college after cutting down/off energy drinks, teas, cigs. Was very little!
Anyways I can't believe its already 2pm. It is good to procrastinate and day dream from time to time....but I can't have this two days in a row. I am doing to allow my self a second cup of coffee today!

I think it's good to take breaks and cut down on caffeine. But choose wisely the time you do it. I picked a fight with my sister over something so stupid yesterday. Yes I have my own personal work to do...but also realized I'm pmsing and cut back on an extreme amount of caffeine intake.

I love the feeling when of when you have more caffeine than usual. The adrenaline, having less of a filter when I talk, the high strung laughing. I shared a pot with my sister the other day.

but the day I cut down is felt. Just slower to do and accomplish things, I will drag something out the whole day. I also have a headache today.

Anyways I thought I would ask everyone to share their experiences and relationship with caffeine?

Great topic starter, Stawr.

When I was around 4 or 5 years old, staying with my maternal grandparents a while, my Virgo grandfather would take a teaspoon of his coffee, and stir it into my cup of milk. So special! It was like I was sitting at the table, doing pretend-coffee drinking with him.

In first grade, we had to pack our lunches. Every day I'd walk down the huge hill, ready to cross the street to wait for the City bus.

At the bottom of that hill, there was a little red shingled building. It was a kind of community small-store, aka convenience store. I'd pick up a carton of Coffee-Milk for my school lunch beverage each day.

Mom started allowing me to drink coffee around 13/14 years old. Have been a coffee drinker ever-since.

When I was in my 20s, I got into the health foods craze (1970s, Adele Davis, et al) in a serious way. At one point I quit coffee for 6 months. Didn't really see any health-benefits derive from that, so I went back to real coffee.

Tried fake-coffees-- Post-um, Dandelion-Root Teas.
Nope.

Nothin' like the real-thing, baby.

I liked it strong... Cowgirl strength.
Could drink it black, but preferred canned evaporated milk as a creamer.
I liked Melita brand and ChockFulloNuts.. as a ratio-mix, to brew. One flavor enhanced the other!
{The Heavenly Coffee!, of course! *grin*}

I discovered gourmet coffees in my 40s.
Sumatra was my favorite.

So in my 60s I discovered Cuban and Mexican expressos!! YUM. They add a tiny bit of sugar which brings out the best of those flavors.

Makes my Day!

Hi Stawr.

I'm a bit like Mirage as far as starting young. My gma (mom's - mom) also started me up. I think it was one day just after kindergarten ended, we all went to a little diner. My gma was drinking bitter black hot coffee. Those days we culturally hadn't yet gone frufru. I liked it. Even so much any chance I got I'd have some.
In my teens once I was in junior hs, it was every day that I had a coffee buzz. Once I even left for school, last one who was home, left the coffee pot on. Had to call an aunt to go over and turn it off.

When I got into HS I was going out for coffee on dates. My drinking it wasn't limited to mornings. Before long I took a graveyard shift job. I was making the coffee at work to keep us all energized to see the birds by 5am. I soon bought a nice Black and Decker coffee maker. Then the fun came, a coworker I worked with sold on the side gourmet roasted beans. This had me chase down a good grinder. My beans were now freezer special. lol I experimented and learned I also enjoyed it iced. My affair with the imported beans was my idea of luxury. This went on for several years.
Once I was in my later twenties-early thirties I was introduced to the Starbucks style shops. Now there was one place I'll never forget, they sold chocolate covered beans. One was a couple bucks. So good, aromatic and definitely awakening. That place was original but Starbucks sunk them. Sad.
I started making my own coffee with milk, and Tosani flavors, until my weight gave me reason to quit that. Back to black I went. But a decade ago I learned about Stevia, the non alcohol, non flavored liquid one. So my coffee is way more aligned to a woman of a certain age might be interested in.
Maybe 5 years ago my hubby started buying energy drinks. Yes, I got hooked on them too. Caffeine isn't something I should ever do as I have neurological issues. I try to quit but - I get back on that ride everytime the dizziness wears off.

I drink occasional sugar free Monsters. My water intake is constant. I'm groggy if
I don't have caffeine. Maybe one or two times a year I'll quit for awhile but slip right back in. Though my amount is far less, 1C per day, maybe a bit more at times. As Well by noon I try not to have any caffeinated product so my rest won't be ruined.

I drink tea too, mostly herbals. Dandelion,
Chamomile and others.

I blame Venus for this tendency in my caffeinated bev indulgences. She rules my 6th house (Tau). Health, regimes and work.

Adding ~
I think I might quit my caffeine useage a bit longer than my 3week break I ordinarily take. After I came to this thread and wrote my history with ut, I remembered how this dance with adrenal fatigue gets me too often.
So off to detox again. Probably a couple months this time. Unless I am able to stay away from it altogether.

I've been contemplating switching to coconut coffee creamer.(I get it sometimes) I have been having all sorts of digestion issues. My sister has been recommending the paleo diet for that.
Almond milk in coffee is disgusting to me!

Yes I am about to have my second cup of the day with lunch soon. I still feel groggy.

I love iced tea so much! But I have learned the hard way, to cut off the black and green teas past a certain time. I would shrug and say, it's not as strong as coffee. It doesn't give me the same jolt as coffee, but my brain wont turn off when I try to go to bed.
I love picking up mint ice teas when I go to whole foods, trader joes and other local markets. Target actually had a chamomile and lavender ice tea the last time I was there.
The digestion teas are great for evening hours.

My sister got me into these electrolyte powders that can be added to water. I usually feel my caffeine crash when I have water. But with that powder I will sometimes notice I feel more energized than coffee. I am tempted to pick some up myself.

Just being able to grab a cold brew or energy drink out of the fridge in the morning is an absolute luxury for me!

I am so exited for my WholeFoods trip. I am just down to coffee, water from the brita, tequila, and marg mixer, whole milk, and rice milk. Now that it's summer and I am staying home more, I want lots of good beverages.
If I'm up for it, I could make some smoothies now that I have a magic bullet again.

I hope to replace my old ice tea pitcher soon so I can brew my own ice teas again and make fruit waters.

My mom told me that the healthy eating in the 70's was more of a subculture thing. And that her dad use to make fun of her for adding wheat germ in a lot of her food. That totally makes sense to me!
Especially since I was a 90's kid when the junk food seemed especially out of control.

Hello,

Since this is about caffeine....

I started drinking tea around the age of five. This was a serious taboo at the time. Children in my area had parents who came from the South. Tea and coffee were a "no no" for children because they were considered bad for the nerves. Interestingly, hot chocolate was allowed and it was some weak stuff. My tea consumption went really hardcore during my teen years. I went from steeping tea bags to boiling 4-5 teabags at a time, until the water turned black. In my early adult years I cut back on that level of intensity. Maybe it was because of the diarrhea that would follow after imbibing 20 ounces of tea like that.

Nowadays, I enjoy the herbal stuff. I have also gone back to sassafras tea. I sometimes get green tea. If I am to mess with caffeine, it is usually in the form of unrefined chocolate. I do have iced tea at times.

I've been forgetting to close the lid where I store my coffee a lot, and I can tell by the taste.
Coca cola also came out with caffeinated sparkling water called Aha. I did not know it had caffeine added when I bought them, but its been fun

I think I'll get a redbull later. I this entire month has been super rough for me. I've been emotional AF. So many people are driving me crazy and testing my boundaries.

I need to just focus on my job right now.

I hope the new moon shifts the energy in my favor.

I don't like coffee, but would occasionally taste one (with a lot of sweetener and creamer added), when they had samples out in a store. Especially if I was tired, and just beginning to food shop.

In January, I found one that I actually liked - so much, that I bought a bag. Also forgetting that I don't have a coffee machine. In March, I bought a cold-brew jug thing, but returned it when Covid hit, just in case we needed the money. So the coffee is still in a bag, on the counter.

I drink Yorkshire Gold tea, but I've liked different ones over the years. English tea was too strong for me for a while, it made me jittery (I've become a lightweight since living over here). I drank Constant Comment, for years. Occasionally try different ones, but I don't drink as much tea as I used to - usually one mug a day, with half-and-half and xylitol added (keeping it away from the animals). I deal with anxiety, so too much caffeine can make it worse.

Those cold brews dry out my tongue sometimes. I love the novelty of being able to mix them the night before, and pull it out of the fridge the next day.

But if it’s too strong I need a water break half way through.
