instead of store bought buiscuits,
bisquick
milk
garlic
cheese (cheddar)
a bit of butter

bake em up and they taste just like red lobster cheddar bay bisquits. compliment any meal, everybody mowww's them down and bellies are full pretty cheap.

i always keep bisquick on hand as it is a cheap way to accent any meal.

ok, when turkeys are on sale buy a couple.
boil till meat falls off bone.

bbq sauce to half, freeze the other half.
great bbq sandwiches.

another day add some to gravy and add some peas and serve it over buisciuts or bread. several good meals from one turkey.

i could go on forever. i love to cook and not a soul in the world would ever know when things are tight as i keep the house smelling good with good food.

cheap dessert.

angelfood cake in pieces
vanilla pudding
pineapples
cool whip

layer angel food cake
drizzle pineapple juice
now pudding
now pineapple

cool whip on top of layers.
( a few pecans on top if you have them)

great fancy looking and tasting dessert for about 5 bucks.

i like to bring this one when people say, could you bring a dessert.

or always sign up for the pasta salad or spagetti salad. taste great, makes a ton, not much dollars to contribute to any potluck or party.

I haven't tried it yet, but i want to make my own hummus I Love it . Just have to find the tahini.

Hummus Recipe

4 garlic cloves, minced and then mashed
2 15-oz cans of garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed
2/3 cup of tahini (roasted, not raw)
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Pine nuts (toasted) and parsley (chopped) for garnish
Method
1 In a food processor, combine the mashed garlic, garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, 1/2 cup water, and olive oil. Process until smooth. Add salt, starting at a half a teaspoon, to taste.

2 Spoon into serving dish and sprinkle with toasted pine nuts and chopped parsley.

Serve with crackers, raw dip vegetables such as carrots or celery, or with pita bread. You can cut the pita bread into thin triangles, brush with olive oil and toast for 10 minutes in a 400°F oven to make pita chips with which to serve the hummus.

I love hummus

And Sunshine, those dumplings sound SOOOOOO good

I just remembered too, a really great bread recipe. I generally dislike store-bought bread. Homemade is the way to go, and it's really cheap. I don't have a breadmaker, so this is a very time-consuming recipe. However, the ingredients are cheap and basic (unless you want to add the kalamata olives and fresh rosemary, which I usually do ). PLUS, you can store the bread in a sealed container for months if you want.

Ok, so if anyone's got the time, here's a very basic bread recipe, which I added rosemary and olives too (because it makes it amazing).

Focaccia Bread

2 cups warm water
2 teaspoons dry yeast
4 1/2 cups (about) all purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons olive oil
***Optional but recommended : 25 black or green brine-cured olives (such as Kalamata or Greek),pitted, halved
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary or 1 1/2 teaspoons dried***

Put 2 cups warm water in large bowl. Sprinkle dry yeast over; stir with fork. Let stand until yeast dissolves, about 10 minutes.

Add 4 1/4 cups flour and salt to yeast mixture and stir to blend well (dough will be sticky). Knead dough on floured surface until smooth and elastic, adding more flour by tablespoonfuls if dough is sticky, about 10 minutes. Form dough into ball. Oil large bowl; add dough, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in warm area until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down dough; knead into ball and return to same bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in warm area until doubled, about 45 minutes or less

Coat baking sheet with 1 tablespoon oil. Punch down dough. Transfer to prepared sheet. Using fingertips, press out dough to 13x10-inch rectangle. Let dough rest 10 minutes. Drizzle 2 tablespoons oil over dough. Sprinkle olives and chopped rosemary evenly over. Let dough rise uncovered in warm area until puffy, about 25 minutes.

Preheat oven to 475°F. Press fingertips all over dough, forming indentations. Bake bread until brown and crusty, about 15-20 minutes (keep an eye on it). Serve bread warm or at room temperature.

I know it takes a long time to prepare. But you should seriously give this a try if you have the time (and patience lol). I was always intimidated with baking bread from scratch and this was my first recipe. And it was really successful, and pretty easy. It's not really that there's anything complicated about it....it just the amount of time it demands.

add some frozen broccoli (or fresh)
1 box stuffing
cream of mushroom soup
mozzarella cheese on top

bake till bubbly and slightly brown, since you have the turkey left over it costless than 5 bucks and taste awesome

Nice idea.

Haha, I find hummus humourous.

I wonder what origin the word "recipe" derives from. I was thinking maybe Greek, since it's got a singular E pronounced long, but the first one isn't, so it doesn't actually sound like it.

Here's a yummy little gem that should please please vego + non alike. It's very simple & can be whipped up pretty quickly so bonus allround.

Bow-Ties with Sun-Dried Tomato and Scallion Cream

This Italian pasta meal is so creamy, rich, and decadent, no one would ever guess it can be whipped up in less than 20 minutes. This version is a vegetarian recipe, but, for the carnivores among us, it tastes equally good with sautéed shrimp or chicken added. Guaranteed to fill your stomach — thankfully it won't fill your sink with dirty dishes.
