Which I usually dont, that is budget...I spare no expense where fine cuisine is concerned, however, lately census has been down at the hospital and I am forced to trim the financial edges where I can, as I am not bringing home full paychecks. So, for lunch/supper today? Sauteed ground turkey, added some garlic, well alot of garlic, some onions, pepper, and I rarely use salt, but instead to flavor a package of onion soup mix, with a base of olive oil...let simmer for a good long time to get the spices melded in. Then served upon romain lettuce leaves. Topped with shredded sharp cheddar cheese and I found these neat little spices that McCormick makes, "Perfect Pinch", will add a dash of Roasted Garlic or Basil and Garlic Perfect Pinch to the lettuce taco. Not only tasty, but healthy as well! Total cost? Less than $10 and will last me and my daughter atleast 2 days! What do you all do when the purse strings are tightened? t~~~ IP: Logged |

hi hippiechick - great topic! anything with ground turkey is usually great for a budget. i don't eat a lot of meat but i love all forms of turkey, some staples are: turkey burgers (w spinach, parmesan cheese, garlic, fresh basil and season to taste) turkey chili (with 2-3 different beans, corn, cumin and chili powder and tomato sauce or diced and fresh tomatoes) thanks for the recipe, i will try it out also, hearty chicken soups (chicken and corn chowder) can be not too expensive depending on the ingredients you use. you can roast a chicken and make a stock with the leftovers (also, when i use broccoli or cauliflower, i keep the vegetable stems to make stock, you can just freeze them). i also usually spare no expense when i cook, especially for others but sometimes when times are tough, i find that ground turkey recipes are usually easy, cheap and healthy.
